For me it's Florence and the Machine, awful waily whiny voice and unforgivable cover of "you've got the love"

Also Mumford and Sons, irritating, too many bloody words, v commercial sounding faux hurdy gurdy music.

I didn't like Florence at first but she's grown on me. Still don't like the You've Got The Love cover though.
Same with Mumford and Sons. They've got a few good songs. I do like Winter Winds.

UnquietDad · 30/10/2010 19:27

Shrieky Florence has yet to grow on me.

said · 30/10/2010 19:30

Ditto Florence.

The xx (get me with the lower case) sound really dull.
Mumford & sons sound a bit fake to me

The problem with being old (mid 40s) is that you really have heard so much stuff before. It's difficult to be impressed.

I always listen to a bit of whoever has won the Mercury prize. After Franz Ferdinand won I listened to several tracks of theirs and downloaded a few. With Speech Debelle I stood about 30 seconds. With the xx, I think I lasted just under a minute.

DuelingFanjo · 30/10/2010 19:33

Plan B, can't get him at all. In what way is he good?

agree also with the XX, I listened to the album and felt like crashing my car on purpose!

said · 30/10/2010 19:34

Love the precision UQD of it being between 30 seconds and 60 seconds for the xx

UnquietDad · 30/10/2010 19:35

I don't get any of this total shit that calls itself "grime" and never will.

Decorhate · 30/10/2010 19:38

Agree with Said - so many bands now sound very derivative whereas in the 70s & 80s there were genuinely new sounds.

I never though I would say it but the only recent stuff that really sounds refreshingly new to me is some rap music. Maybe because I didn't get into rap when it first started...

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 30/10/2010 19:43

Oh thank god I'm not the one one who hates Florence with her wailing she is so irritating I have to turn her off the radio.
Also can't stand Tinie Tempah, Dizzee, Wiley or anyone else in the Grime camp. I hate Eminem, Kanye, Usher et al. Any x factor type mushy shite, David Guetta and the Kingd of Leon, I could go on...

Oh that's better!

DuelingFanjo · 30/10/2010 19:58

who sings 'she's so lovely, she's so lovely' they suck big time.

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 30/10/2010 20:05

Scouting for Girls? Ooh I like them they are very catchy and singy.

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 30/10/2010 20:07

I really hate that Eliza Doolittle one 'Pack Up' but my son loves it and gets all excited when we dance to it so I have to just grit my teeth.

The Feeling as well = dreadful, pointless, bland.

Jellykat · 30/10/2010 20:16

Agree with Riven- Lady GaGa,- Up her own backside i reckon..

BendyBobbingApples · 30/10/2010 20:32

That stupid whistling song makes me what to scream.

I also don't much like Muse. I can't work out why - it just sounds like they worked out a mathematical formula for anthem type songs and that's now it for infinity.

minxofmancunia · 30/10/2010 20:51

UQD, try listening to I Am Kloot instead, they were nominated and they are pure northern class.

I've got the xx album I saw them live when they were new and thought they were interesting. 2 listens in I am totally bored with it.

Don't even get me on Scouting for Girls, they are a complete abomination, I have no idea why XFM play them all the time.

My top tips for new music are Kirsty Almeida and Graffiti6, check them out.

I don't like Florence either. I agreee the cover of You've got the love was bad but I hated the orignal anyway so hey ho!!!

I don't like Mumford and Sons although they are popular with teenagers round here. Why I don't know, I'm sure they are on constant replay on Mike Harding on radio 2!!

I hate stuff by NeYo and the like. Slimey shit it is!

Dizzy and Wiley make me smile and for ages I had 'Cash in my pocket' stuck in my head.
I have tried so hard to like Muse and I have failed miserably.

I don't mind Lady Ga Ga. She is what she is - pure catchy pop and I have been know to catch myself singing along to Poker Face from time to time.

I know some one mentioned Kings of Leon. I love them although they are hardly a new band. (although I still haven't a clue what Molly's Chambers is going on about!)

Again I have tried hard at liking Scouting..... My sons love them and I find them catchy and Roy seems quite nice BUT they don't quite hit the spot for me some how.
I don't know much about Plan B. What I'v heard had been Ok and I tried to get tickets for him but they were sold out.

I'm getting tickets for Band of Horses. Not brand new band but have a listen (and a watch) of this. There music was used on this vid.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/11/2010 10:04

Oh god Mumford and Sons - posh west country twats with jack Wills clothes on. What a crock og shit etc.

Ditto Ellie Goulding. Over produced folksy nonsense.

30 Seconds to Mars - overblown pompous rock, trying to be the new U2 or something.

Paramore - stop bloody shrieking.

That fucking hideous song by Cee Lo Green.

The Saturdays, they sound like cats, and Frankie Sandford's haircut really pissed me off.
I love grime music, and dubstep.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/11/2010 10:05

I nearly wet myself with excitement when Take That by Wylie came out - that was my favoutite song of the year.

I think I need to soup up my car and get blue lights for under the chassis etc.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/11/2010 09:57

To those saying Muse, in what way are they 'new' when their first album was released in 1999?

daftpunk · 03/11/2010 10:04

Florence + the machine ..... Fantastic. Mumford and sons......Boring.

But they're both years old.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/11/2010 10:07

Both only on their first album though so that counts as new I reckon.
