Just back from Truck 13 in Oxfordshire and found I was most-earwormed by the children's tent entertainer Nick Cope who did a couple of sessions for mini-festival goers. He plays the guitar and sings along with the occasional funny prop (the hungry monkey) and was great live as he has a lovely way with the children in the audience taking their comments very seriously. The songs are funny, modern, tuneful and come with lots of actions. He is the Quentin Blake of the children's music scene. So nice to hear new original songs from a British writer.
I overheard him chatting to a friend afterwards about finding it hard to get any sales of his CD beyond family and friends and the people who see him live at festivals. He was really good and I said he should get on Mumsnet, his website isn't working (!!) but he is on MySpace www.myspace.com/nickcopesongs.
If you are looking for some music beyond nursery rhymes for your LOs listen to some of his stuff. My DD is only 20months and she was joining in but the older kids (4-6) really liked it.
