Sports day activities for young children in wheelchairs

I’m looking for sports day ideas for under 5’s in wheelchairs.

What has worked in your school or with your child? This child can move about the floor well without using legs and can throw well.

Sportsday will be on a grass field.

Do you have a specialist teaching service locally?

Can the child self-propel? You could move some activities on to the playground.

What type of wheelchair do they use? How easy is it to push on the grass? Things like egg (or other object - beanbag can be easier to control) and spoon race, relays &/or race to collect items (raise the items on stands) may still be possible.

Throwing beanbags into a bucket. Foam javelins. Ball into wheelchair basketball net.

Not your traditional sports event, but I once saw a specialist school have one sports day activity as a water game. Each child had two tubes. One full of water and the other empty. Each child moved the water from one tube to the other with a plastic cup. First to fill the second tube with water up to line, won. It went down well. Lots of fine motor skills being used. Lots of SS also use one of the large parachutes as a game on sports day.
