Hi all. Does anyone have experience of a pleasant middle to upmarket restaurant in Oxford where i could meet a friend who is now in a wheelchair?
Neither of us are from Oxford, but have chosen it as a midway point for our annual meet up. I said I’d book somewhere for lunch and want I ensure it’s a simple experience for her. I’d be so appreciative for any reccs.
thank you

[cracks knuckles]

How are you arriving in Oxford - car, train, bus? Do you know which side you’ll be coming into?

Is she self propelling/powered or being assisted?

What sort of cost per head are you thinking of?

A nice but higher end option which I would think of as wheelchair accessible and which claims to be so is Pompette in Summertown. It has car parking on site though access from the car park back round to the front door might be tricky, assistance might help with that. Pricey but the food is LOVELY.

Near the station, basic looking but again good food if you are up for Indian is Dosa Park. Not a beautiful part of town but it’s literally across from the station and the food is really good, more authentic South Indian than the average curry house. Should be straightforward flat access, single storey. Much less expensive.

As above, accessibility depends on how your friend is getting to Oxford. Gees is nice and wheelchair accessible (Banbury Rd, further into town than Summertown). Lots of the villages surrounding Oxford are picturesque and have nice gastro-style pubs.

I was going to say Gees too. We really liked it. On their website it says to let them know of accessibility needs and they will make arrangements.

Hi and thanks. Her husband is driving her to Oxford and can get her to the restaurant. He’s going to disappear for a few hours while we catch up. I was keen that the restaurant wasn’t a problem for her in terms of toilet and general accessibility. Restaurant wise - somewhere independent would be ideal, but happy to go where the food is yummy and they perhaps serve a cocktail (that last bit not essential tho!)

I’ll have a look at Gees.

Wildcard - less upmarket but fun:

On the top floor of Westgate shopping centre. Fully accessible via lifts to every floor. Gorgeous views over the city, with a terrace outside.

I’d suggest combining food there with cocktails at The Alchemist, a few metres away.

Indian Restaurant Westgate (nr High Street), Oxford

Indulge in Indian street food comforts at Mowgli Oxford, Westgate Shopping Centre. Perfect for families or special occasions. Book Now.

Right, Pompette’s standard toilet is certainly upstairs so wherever you choose, I’d ring ahead to check, as I can imagine that many places will have a toilet option but you will want to check. I agree with those upthread to start with Gees.

Gees or Quod - was taken here for work dinners & one of us was in a wheelchair. V accommodating staff.

Another vote for Gees.

We went to a really great Korean restaurant when I was there last year. No problems with access for my wheelchair at all. We’re just trying to remember the name! The food was great and very authentic, including being able to choose and cook your own food at the table if you want something like that. Will try and find out which one it was!

A lovely sushi restaurant with outdoor seating on the roof of shopping mall

@Manifestosorry, forgot to come back. My daughter thinks this is the restaurant we went to, the Oxford location. Despite being a chain we found it really good, lovely tasty and authentic food and would definitely go back again to have the hotpot type dishes that you cook at the table next time. Would recommend it entirely YORI Oxford location
