I have a hysterectomy booked in a few weeks, something that I've been on a waiting list for for over a year. Meanwhile I'm taking meds to try and stop my ovaries from working which I should only take for 6 months and I'm up to 18 months. The side effect is osteoporosis. I also have rheumatoid which is damaging my connective tissues and I've got at least another 4 operatios coming up. The drug isn't working I'm still bleeding and the pain is immense, sometimes I can't stand up straight. The last 6 operations I've had awake.

I've had high heart rates with associated chest pain and breathlessness for a number of years which has been investigated by cardiology but everything came back fine. It flared up in the summer as I got covid again and the GP has asked cardiology what to do. They've finally come back and said they want to investigate more.

I know if I tell the anaesthetist they are looking at it my surgery will be postponed.

Cardiology are slammed. They will not carry out any more tests for months. Then I'll have to rebook the hysterectomy. I'm looking at another years wait. I've told the GP I won't be telling the anaesthetist about cardiologys investigations (which will turn up nothing) and go ahead with the op. He said it's the wrong thing to do but I'm so unbearably desperate. I've been in pain for 30 years with the rheumatoid so I'm used to pain but this stomach pain is epic.

What would you do?

As someone with the same conditions as you and an ex nurse you must give your medical team all the information what if something went wrong and they didn’t know

Thanks for replying. Could you bear to wait with increasing pain while cardiology gets their act together? I really am desperate. My pain tolerance is v high but the stomach pain makes me vomit and pass out. And it's getting worse. My heart always behaves when I'm asleep.

Of course you need to give accurate information. Failing to do so may result in inappropriate care being given should anything not go according to plan.

Having a GA to have an operation isn’t the same as being asleep.

The anaesthetist will have access to your notes so they may well see the referral, and the GP may well contact the hospital now, anyway.
