Wheelchair-friendly destinations

My husband became a wheelchair user last year. We have always travelled and last year managed a tour of Scandinavia which we loved but it was hard work.

I'd like to go away for Xmas this year. Does anyone have any recommendations of holiday operators who could arrange a package tour with fully accessible travel and accommodation? We found that even in Scandinavia not everywhere was as wheelchair aware as we would have hoped.

Has anyone had a good experience?

Sailing, basically, always has a lot of accessible options - not just cruises, but right down to narrowboat holidays.

Is it a wheelchair or a power chair? If you can afford something like an Airfold I’m told they are amazing and are fine on airlines too. I’d love one, just because they’re really light for DH to lug in and out of car and will give me more independence than a wheelchair. The mobility scooter I have is getting and bit heavy for DH to manhandle, so I’m looking at power chairs.

I met a woman at a flower festival in the early summer who was using an Airfold. She raved about it and let me sit in it for a mo just to see what it was like - fab and wondrous imo, the chair was pretty good too ;-))

I’m Tetraplegic for a number of years and have always lived travelling. Take a look at a company called Disabled Holidays. They offer good destinations and service. Good Luck.

Thank you

Just moving over to a power chair and hoping we'll expand our range a bit.
