PIP assessment and hospital stay plus motability issue

Hi, first time poster after some advice as have seen some similar threads here, dredging. Family member been in hospital for 2 ops, total stay at least 6 weeks. we haven't told PIP yet as all been a bit much and didn't actually get initial letter to come in, just verbal. They are 2 weeks in. So, I need to inform PIP but worried that they will stop payments as will def be over 28 days. Our issue is not necessarily the payments but they might take away the motability car, this has happened before not due to a hospital stay but due to us having to go to mandatory reconsideration. Family member is disabled, the op will make them more disabled and she def qualifies for higher level on both counts. We just don't want to have to do this every few years! Any advice on what to do - i'm going to phone motability tomorrow and hopefully they will give us a grace period and will inform PIP and they will stop for any time over the 28 days but will it kick back in or will it be treated like a new claim? Also having opened family member's post they have a phone call with a PIP assessor on wednesday so obviously need to postpone this, which telling them about hospital stay will do, we hope. any adice very gratefully received!

They will stop motability payments after 28 days in hospital, I'm afraid. All payments will start up again on discharge from hospital. There is no need to make a new claim: just inform them. Sometimes they ask for evidence of the hospital stay.

This. They will want to see evidence of the date admitted into the hospital and date of discharge. Ask for a discharge letter then get it photocopied, in case they lose it, before sending it in to them.
