Anyone applied for grants to help with wheelchair funding

I hope it's okay to ask this here. I couldn't see another board that was suitable.

My yd, 23, is trying to find funding for a lightweight wheelchair with a power wheel attachment. She has JIA/RA, Fibromyalgia, Hyper mobility amongst other things and her current one from the NHS is far to heavy for her to get around alone.

She has just had her first refusal and is a bit upset. She has tried hard for over 6 years to save to buy it herself, but the only money she gets is PIP payments.

Does anyone have any suggestions of any where else she can apply, and any help with the application to help her. She doesn't work, she can't, but it feels they would be more inclined to help someone who needed to work. If she could get about easier I am sure she would do so, but currently she is very limited to what she can do.

I was wondering if it would be worth emailing and asking if it would be worth applying again, but just with the wheelchair element, and she could try and save for the power adaptation.

Could she get one via the motability scheme? I know they do some wheelchairs and scooters but it'd come directly out of her PIP motability component.

Wheelchair services should offer something called 'personal wheelchair budget' where they would give the value of what their provision would cost, allowing the person to pay the excess to something specific they want.
