Cars with wide opening doors

May seem an odd question but I’m asking on behalf of my parents. My dad has MS and isn’t very mobile, he struggles to get in and out of the car (as a passenger) they’ve just changed their car from a Zafira to a Crossland (on the Motability scheme) and the door doesn’t open so wide, so he finds it harder to get in.

Anyone know of other cars that open wide? although other cars might have sliding rear doors he needs a wide opening front door as the scooter goes in the back so there isn’t really room for passengers in the rear of the car.

any suggestions gratefully accepted

Would it be possible to try a taller car. Mines is sort of van height so I'm at the right height for the seat so I slide in rather than squatting down.

Aim for an SUV type vehicle. THat should give you a higher sitting position.

I had this problem too when choosing my Motorbility car. I ended up having to visit 12 different dealerships to find one.

I chose the Citroen C5 Aircross. It was the only one that the seat was high enough, the door sills were low enough for me to get my leg over, and the door opened super wide for me to use my aid to get out.

I always found that with 3 door cars, the driver and passenger doors are much bigger, so if he needs to be the passenger next to the driver and you dont need to worry about him getting in the back, perhaps look at a 3 door car

Thank you all for your suggestions, I have passed them on. Good to know there could be a solution.
