We'd like to find out your thoughts on children's magazines and how your children interact with them.

This survey is open to UK Mumsnet users who have purchased children's magazines and have at least one child aged between 3 and 9.

All respondents will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Click here to complete the survey.

Thanks and good luck!

Done. I've worked in magazine publishing all my life and I admire their optimism.

BrizzleMaverick · 07/03/2021 08:54

Done. Hopefully it improves the quality of kids magazines which currently are very expensive for the cheapest plastic crap you can ever find!

There are some truly lovely and engaging magazines out there (Anorak, Dot, National Geo Kids, Aquila, Okido, Leopard..) but the ones we browse in our newsagent or at Tesco often fall short of the mark. I don’t necessarily mean these should be got rid of, but they could be improved!

I don't think my kids have ever played with the free gifts with a magazine for more than a couple of hours. And the magazines aimed at girls are so often just horribly gendered, with pointless "pretty" and boring gifts.
ladymalfoy · 08/03/2021 21:57

Done. But I wager those of us who have highlighted the tat that comes with these magazines and the fact that there really aren’t any ‘off the shelf’ educational magazines won’t win.
Sure, we can subscribe to Aquila, but I’d like a magazine on a shelf that promotes learning as well as fun.
Painting a pony and doing a word search isn’t really clever.

Done. Some of my ds’s favourite toys have come from magazines over the years but I still despair at the amount of cheap crappy crap that usually comes with them.
It’s galling that a book would be cheaper!
But they are a real treat here so they definitely have a place.

Buckingafout · 12/03/2021 15:49

Done, but not entirely sure I'm the type of customer they want.

Done. DD really enjoys some of the magazines, but the toys usually remain unopened for at least several days. Often they go into the bin after a couple of weeks, still unopened, as they are so uninspiring. Cheap plastic crap. If I/she wants a toy, we can buy one. Currently she gets a comic that has no toy, her choice.

We tend to mostly get the Lego magazines, as at least the toys are good!
