I have a son who has started his gcses this year. He is not very good with languages so I asked the school during open evening before he started yr7 if it was possible not do the language. I was told he had to until he starts gcses when he can choose. At GCSE option meeting I was told he had no choice but to do it. The assistant head was very rude and told my son to go to a private school so he can have his own menu, told him to drop other subjects and told my son he was failing etc. I complained to the school and was again advised that language was compulsory and that they are part of the curriculum etc so he had to do it. I had raised concerns about my son having sen but the school took no notice as my son is doing well academically. I had my gp refer him and found out he is autistic spectrum during our first meeting and was placed on a list for a full diagnosis. The school again wanted me to wait for an official report but did agree to refer him to an education psychologist amongst other things but they didn't do this and I made an official complaint. I had a meeting with a deputy head who told me my son could drop language but had to do a different subject. I insisted that since they never advised us about this option from the beginning he shouldn't be expected to do a new subject as he will have to catch up a lot. After negotiating with her she assured me that he could drop the subject altogether as I had asked for him to be allowed to sit in the library to do his work. My son had been using the library and improved his computer science grade significantly from -2 to 5 in 12 weeks. However when she confirmed the outcome of our meeting she didn't mention anything about him not having an alternative subject and told me she had never stated this during the meeting. When I complained about the assistant heads comment she said he was part of the SLT and had a persona. I had informed the school that my son was told in yr4 he would never amount to anything by his class teacher so works very hard as he doesn't want to fail.Is it acceptable to be obnoxious because you are part of the senior leadership team? Am I being unreasonable in expecting the school to allow my son to drop the language?
I feel the school has failed my son as despite liaising with them for 2 yrs and their SENCO promising me that he will be assessed by an educational psychologist, put in a social emotional group etc he never was. One of the senco told me she had observed him and had no concerns but she never observed him. She had never observed him and was unable to support her claim as she had no notes or any documents to say she had. My son feels he works 5 times harder than his peers and his grades don't reflect this. Can anyone advise? Or share their experiences.

Why does it ask about what sector we work in and then list "home-based," as a sector? My job is home-based (with some limited travel) but in one of the other listed sectors.

Can I suggest that when you set up surveys like this in future you routinely ask not just the ages of your DC but a question about special needs. That makes a huge difference in the work/life needs of parents with older children and I think it would be really relevant.
