As part our Family Friendly programme, we want to find out a bit more about Mumsnet users’ experiences (or not) of flexible working.

By ‘flexible working’ we mean any working pattern that is different from the norm and aims to accommodate employees’ needs. This could be a job share, or an agreement that you can work from home on certain days, or working a combination of long and short days, or compressed days - and probably lots of other combinations.

This survey is open to all Mumsnetters in the UK who are employed, or have been employed in the past.

Everyone who takes part and adds their details at the end will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 voucher (for the store of choice, from a list).

Here's the link again: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/67TVGSW

Thanks for your time and good luck with the prize draw.

Done. I'm fortunate enough to work for a very large international company that is dedicated to flexible working. It makes a huge, huge difference to my work / life balance.

StealthPolarBear · 22/12/2015 13:30

Have completed but it doesn't want to submit. Other Web pages loading fine

slightlyglitterpaned · 22/12/2015 13:46

There seems to be an assumption that all women will be delighted to trade pay & promotion for part-time or flexible working. I don't want to be the "budget option", and I doubt I'm the only woman to be promoted after going part time.

I realise there are many bad employers out there but there didn't seem much option to tick if you work for a decent one.

LondonStill83 · 22/12/2015 16:49

Done. I love working flexibly.

Gazelda · 22/12/2015 18:25

done. Made me remember how lucky I am to be able to work flexibly yet still be respected and valued in my role.

megletthesecond · 22/12/2015 19:15

Done. Was turned down for flexible working by my misery guts employer. It's alright for senior management though Hmm ..

HeadDreamer · 22/12/2015 20:04

Done. I work full time but flexibly. I can work from home on a regular but ad hoc basis. (No fixed work from home day but I do it at least once a week). I have a long commute of 1 hour one way outside of rush hour. I travel outside of rush hour by getting in the office by 8 and leaving by 3, unless I have something I must attend in the office. It enables me to continue with the job and be there for my children.

slightlyglitterpaned · 22/12/2015 20:07

Meglet - I thought that question about whether anyone senior works flexibly was difficult to answer - even in the least flexible places I've worked senior management has been able to make decisions about their working day that weren't available to ordinary employees. I'm not sure how much it means when senior managers come in late every Friday to do the school run, if nobody else gets to IYSWIM?

EasterRobin · 23/12/2015 05:24

I might have missed something as I can't go back into the survey to check, but i don't think you're going to get many answers to question 11, since you ask anyone who doesn't work flexibly to close the survey back in question 1. You'll still have some people that used to work flexibly but no longer do, but that's about it.

AnnMumsnet · 23/12/2015 10:09

EasterRobin - the survey is open to all who are employed or have been employed in the past - nothing to do with how flexibly they work.

Done. Thought questions could have been better.

Solo · 25/12/2015 12:02

AnnMumsnet I just realised I stuck an extra letter in my email address just as I pressed send!! Is there any way of altering it please? There shouldn't have been a w in there!!

YeOldeTrout · 25/12/2015 15:52

Flexible hours is very important to me... I'm sure I pay for it though in terms of salary, though, not high in my type of role in my industry.

cwalliss82 · 26/12/2015 07:14

Some weird questions but survey complete. :)

lindseystuart85 · 26/12/2015 16:28

All done, I enjoy working I like the routine and independance

SevenSeconds · 29/12/2015 21:22

Done. I work part time and have a brilliant work / family balance.

xalyssx · 29/12/2015 21:50

I work quite flexibly, partly because I have kiss and partly because I have learning difficulties.

SweetPeaPods · 30/12/2015 00:44

Done. I left my last job after they refused my flexible working request for the second time. I was willing to bend over back wards for them. Now much happier in a new job which is part time and job share and I get to see my boys much more.

ElviraCondomine · 30/12/2015 13:30

I started the survey but found it frustrating as there was nowhere to explain the limitations of flexible working in my profession: that although it is possible to do part time in terms of the days (e.g 2/3/4 days instead of the standard 5) you can't ever do short days or take TOIL and holidays/leave are totally set in stone. I ended up abandoning the survey because I couldn't answer truthfully.

AnneofGreenTables · 31/12/2015 09:00

Done. I work in a very traditional male-dominated industry where working from home and flexible working is almost unheard of. I'm one of only a handful of people who had my request granted. 99% of requests are turned down.

LizB62A · 31/12/2015 11:43

I've completed the survey but would have liked to be able to answer that part-time or jobshare are a no go for me as I simply couldn't afford that (although I'd love it !)

nerysw · 31/12/2015 14:59

Done, flexible working it great.

knobblyknee · 31/12/2015 23:04

Wow. That was en eye opener. I had no idea everyone could ask for flexible working if the job allows.

HelenSw4les · 01/01/2016 20:51

I'm so fortunate and thankful to work for an employee who offers flexible working across the entire workforce and has done for many many years; it makes work/life balance so much easier.
