This survey is open to all Mumsnetters living in Scotland.

If you're interested, please complete the survey here.

Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 John Lewis voucher.

Gorgeous George - now there is an entertaining politician. No boring grey suit there. I can't say I'd vote for him ever but am glad he exists. Makes politics a lot more interesting. Unfortunately he's remembered for his cat impressions on Big Brother rather than his outstanding performance in front of the US senate when they tried to make out he was responsible in some way for the problems in Iraq. He did this with few notes and no rehearsal and he wiped the floor with them. It was awesome stuff to watch.

prettybird · 22/08/2014 15:20

I had more time for George Galloway before than I have now although I've never watched Big Brother so that doesn't influence me . But his indefatigability would be entertaining at Holyrood I think Hmm

But by all accounts, his appearances up here in defence of the union haven't been as successful as he'd have liked them to be but maybe that's because he's not as popular as he think he is, not because he's a Unionist Wink

WildThong · 22/08/2014 15:56

Galloway is an utter cunt

prettybird · 22/08/2014 16:09

I think that's one thing most of us would agree on: Yes, No or Undecided! Grin

FannyFifer · 22/08/2014 16:35

I went to see Galloways just say naw tour, it was an experience that's all I'll say, oh & the tickets were free.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 22/08/2014 17:37

I used to rather admire him, he's been a firm supporter of Palestine for longer than I can remember, and the speech to the US Senate was a thing of beauty. But his attitude to the indyref is just "stupidity on sticks", his allegations that Catholics would be at risk if we vote Yes are absurd! I did say on Twitter that I'd love to see him and Tommy Sheridan debate live (and I really would, two passionate, intelligent and articulate men, would be amazing!). I tagged them both, George blocked me and Tommy followed me. I was a bit Confused because as far as I knew they were great pals, but there would seem to have been a falling-out, maybe that whole perjury thing.

(Yes, I know Tommy's a bit Marmite in the indyref, but he's doing a sterling job of converting DKs and getting folk involved, so if Gail's prepared to forgive and forget I'm willing to forgo a bit of solidarity with the sisters in the interests of a greater cause atm. His balls can always be booted after we say Yes.)

WildThong · 22/08/2014 18:36

I don't agree they are passionate, intelligent and articulate.
They both have undoubted passion and are great communicators, even I enjoyed GGs verbosity, but both are as bent as a dogs back leg and I would hate to see either of them near Scottish government. And Gail's a fanny for good measure.
Anyway I didn't mean to derail, sorry.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 22/08/2014 18:52

I don't think either is likely to be anywhere near gvt. Grin

claig · 22/08/2014 21:13

Galloway supported Sheridan througout the perjury trial. If there is a falling out, this may have something to do with it.

"I'm just hoping that my long record in Glasgow as a Member of Parliament, my reputation as a campaigner, my name - which is relatively well-known in Glasgow - will lift me above the rest, but we'll wait and see."

The former Respect MP said he was upset by the decision to place Mrs Sheridan at the top of Solidarity's Glasgow list.

"I'm, to be honest, a little bit hurt and disappointed by it," he said.

"Tommy Sheridan didn't have a better friend in politics than me, and for 30 years nearly.

Tommy Sheridan Tommy Sheridan is awaiting sentencing for perjury
"To do something like this without even a text message to say he was about to do it, it's a bit dispiriting."

However, he said he still believed Sheridan was innocent and would continue to support him.

"I have stood by Tommy through all those trials and tribulations in my newspaper columns, in my speeches and in person - so I'm not turning my back on Tommy," he said.

"I think he's been badly dealt with.

"But clearly a vote for Gail Sheridan would be vote for Tommy Sheridan - or not - and that's another reason why I probably think it's unwise."

But I think that Sheridan would beat Galloway in debate. Galloway used to have an interesting radio show, but if you listened long enough, you started to wonder how left he really was and what he really believed.

"First of all I'm against the separation of the country and Tommy's group is for independence," he said.

"I'm a Labour man and they're more of a far-left crew, but most importantly if Gail Sheridan runs as my number two my election campaign will become a referendum about Tommy Sheridan, about his trials and tribulations - and I really don't want that."

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 22/08/2014 21:42

Cheers for that claig, throws some light on it. :)

claig · 22/08/2014 21:49

Smile He lost in Glasgow and I think that was a blow to his ego. He was not best pleased.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 22/08/2014 21:53

IIrc, he didn't even show up for the count, because he knew how badly he'd been beaten. Ah well. And yet, in debate with Jim Sillars, George said he'd like to be FM! Grin

ellemm · 23/08/2014 12:33

Since of 15 national newspapers only 1 is supporting YES, I don't expect this survey to truly reflect the strong support for independence in my country

bahookie · 23/08/2014 16:01

I'm sure Blair Jenkins will be saddened to hear that he is no longer the leader of the yes campaign! Really disappointed with the questions nothing on the real issues, 'allowed' to keep the pound...seriously?!, nhs, benefits, equality, eu.

Hazlydazly · 24/08/2014 14:30

Is the referendum survey finished? I cannot access it!

prettybird · 24/08/2014 15:13

Link still works for me (from desktop version of MN)

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 24/08/2014 15:16

Doesn't work for me, Safari browser on iPad. It starts to go to surveymonkey, then redirects to MN online surveys and product tests. And I did it earlier... Confused

prettybird · 24/08/2014 15:24

I think it doesn't work if you've done it before. I think the only reason my Desktop version still works is that I did the survey via my iPod.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 24/08/2014 15:56

Just checked from my desktop, you're right, prettybird, it still works. (I clear all histories and cookies every time I use the desktop, but not on my iPad.)

Whendoigetadayoff · 25/08/2014 09:52

What at a terrible survey. Total lack of knowledge shown with currency, interest rates, credit card finances, & leaders of yes/no campaigns. And depressing to see characteristics and questions asked of us as women re childcare and attractiveness and blokeishness of male politicians. Along with childcare why not ask about policy positions on trident, the NHS, employment and welfare?
If this was a school survey carried out by 5th year modern studies students it would be acceptable. As it is for a newspaper and therefore presumably by a polling company - then shame on them.

Solopower1 · 27/08/2014 23:03

There's a wild glint appearing in the eye of Alec Salmond. Said as much in the 'survey'.

Wish I hadn't now. It's not a good survey, and it's going to portray us as idiots. Me, anyway.

hiimangelafernandez · 28/08/2014 23:32

Questions are stupid, if this is the peak on the Times research then no wonder we question the Mail!

They obviously think both the reader and the electorate are stupid.

Cupoftchaiagain · 30/08/2014 07:58

Not doing this survey due to incorrect questions.

FannyFifer · 30/08/2014 08:46

I did it, was shite but could do with a£50 voucher.

figgypuddings · 30/08/2014 09:43

Agree re the poor, fluffy questions. Can you imagine if this had been posted on Dadsnet and they asked if men thought Nicola Sturgeon was pretty rather than her ability to run a country?
I wish I had not filled the survey in now.
