British sockets aren't live until the earth pin is inserted. Putting a socket cover into the socket actually gives the child access to 240V.

Of all of them, stairgates are the most useful.

I did buy a safety pack and used door and drawer stoppers when DS1 was little, but we moved house and when DD and DS2 were little, we had a gate to stop them getting into the kitchen so didn't need them.

Again, with socket covers, used them with DC1, then I found MN who educated me about them and never used them again.

The safety pack had some corners for tables in it. they looked like shit and DS kept pulling them off so they didn't last long. And there was a foam thing that was meant to stop doors from slamming on fingers. I lived in a flat and used to use it when DS was in bed and I needed to pop downstairs to the bin so I wouldn't lock myself out! Never needed them otherwise.

Much of safety pack stuff was never used.

Done. Personally, and as a safety professional, I think all safety measures should be used in conjunction with supervision. While I take the point of the fatally flawed article, the plastic is non conductive and if the socket cover and the socket are in good condition the cover serves a purpose. It prevents other things being stuck in the holes of the socket that could be conductive and lead to a shock or worst case, electrocution. Domestic electricity supply in the UK also usually includes an RCD as a safety measure. If the socket covers were dangerous they would have been withdrawn from sale. They are not intended to be used as a sole method of protection from electric shock.

That having been said it's not up to me to tell other parents or guardians how to protect their children. It's personal choice and everyone does their best for their family.

Would be good if baby safety product manufacturers would think of this when marketing their products.
