Anheuser-Busch InBev UK, the brewing company, would like to find out what Mumsnetters think about their child(ren) and alcohol, in terms of what (if any) experiences their child(ren) have had with alcohol, and also if Mumsnetters have discussed alcohol or responsible drinking with their child(ren).

Please take a few minutes to complete this short survey. It is open to all UK Mumsnetters with at least one child aged 8 years or older. If you have more than one child aged 8 or older, please answer thinking about your eldest child only.

We're aware that children's experiences and parental views and experiences can vary quite a bit so if you feel that any of the questions aren't relevant to you and your child(ren), please try to answer them according to your view/experience or leave them blank.

Hmmmm. There is a massive difference between having tastes of alcohol at home and being 'bought alcohol'. Also between having a drink and being drunk.

I agree. Some of the questions are stupidly worded imho. DD1 has drunk alcohol at home with us (wine and lemonade / a glass of Pimms - no more than 2 of anything) BUT that doesn't mean that we 'bought it for her' and there isn't an option to say anything about that.

Completed survey - I agree too though my daughter has sampled a few drinks at home with my supervision but they weren't bought for her.

Done, but quite difficult answering the questions for a 22 year old

Flawed survey. Completely ignores the fact that many children are routinely allowed to taste their parents' alcoholic drinks, and that for many children and teens the alcohol they drink was not bought for them but for their parents.

Have done this but feel the questions are very open to misinterpretation.
Has your child drunk alcohol ? ( Does this mean a sip / taste or had a glass of alcohol)
When drinking under supervision / at meal the same applies , a taste is very different to supervising your child drinking 2 , 3 or more bottles etc

Yes - agree, I sound like I'm out buying drinks for my kids every night when in reality they just have a sip of mine, and half a sherry glass of champagne at Christmas! Rather badly set up, I thought- but happy to win the voucher anyway!

Done and completely agree with the comments. My replies look like I buy alcohol for my DDs (age 8 & 9). I don't, but I let them have a sip of mine sometimes. It looks like lots of people are like me and this could lead to seriously flawed survey results.

I agree completely with previous posters, from the survey I sound irresponsible but in actual fact I only let then taste an alcoholic drink or perhaps a v.small glass (less than a shot glass) for a celebratory toast.

I agree with other posters the questions are very generalised. I answered about DSD as she is 18 - my eldest dd is 8 and not the least bit interested in alcohol. It was quite hard to answer coming from the perspective of having an adult daughter who is legally able to buy and drink alcohol herself.

not impressed by the questions. Ticked yes to having "bought" them alcohol then realised that maybe I should have said no as it was bought for me but they were allowed to try it.

I agree with the other posters, I have allowed my DS to taste a mouthful of my alcohol - so I had to put 'I have bought them a drink' = this was not true!

Not done - for the same reason I wouldn't do a survey on smoking set by Phillip Morris.

I dont feel happy doing thus survey as the questions do not let me answer honestly. My 9y has tried alcohol but I'm talking about a mouthful or so. I've not bought her an alcoholic drink but she's tried mine. This option isn't there.

Phillip Morris. Big tobacco company. A lot of deaths were involved.

I agree that I won't be bought by the alcohol industry for a lottery ticket - and MN shouldn't be involved in this shit.

Done but have my concerns about Q12. It ask which type of alcohol your child has ever drunk and who bought it for them.

My ds has tried a bit of wine, technically I bought it for him as he tried some of my wine at a meal at home. But to me the way the question and answer is worded it sounds as if I went out, bought a bottle of wine and handed it to him.

A lot of us have expresed concerns about this survey and the way in which our answers are to be interpreted. Could we have some answers please MNHQ?

Thanks for the comments about the survey question - we think the main area of concern is Q11 about buying drinks for children. It's a fair point that there is no option for the situation where you have allowed your child a sip of your own drink rather than bought them one specifically. We're not trying to catch anyone out, it's an oversight on our part when constructing the survey (sadly we're not perfect ALL the time ). Anheuser-Busch InBev UK who commissioned the survey are not trying to criticise parents and the focus for the analysis will be on talking to children about alcohol so we've decided it is easier to simply delete that question rather than change it now as this is no good for those kind folks who have completed the survey already.

Any additional queries please do let us know and we'll answer them.
