This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing the Tripp Trapp™ chair - the original ‘Chair for Life’, designed so it will evolve with your child from birth through to adulthood - with their child.

Here’s what Stokke has to say: “For over 40 years, millions of children around the world have enjoyed their meals and grown up using the iconic Tripp Trapp® chair. Today, as then, the intelligent, adjustable design allows freedom of movement with both depth and height adjustable seat and footplates. When adjusted correctly, your child is ensured a comfortable and ergonomic seating position at any age. It is designed to fit right up to your dining table allowing your child to learn and develop alongside you.”

Selected testers received the Tripp Trapp™ in beech, in a colour of their choice, as well as the Tripp Trapp™ Baby Set if their child was under 3, to turn the chair into a high chair.

Testers, please give your feedback by responding to the questions below, as well as completing a short survey we’ve emailed you.

  1. What did you like about the Tripp Trapp™ chair?
  2. What did you think of the look of the Tripp Trapp™ chair?
  3. Did you use the Tripp Trapp™ chair at your dinner table? If so, what were your thoughts?
  4. If you received the Baby Set (to turn the Tripp Trapp™ chair into a high chair) what were your thoughts?
  5. Would you recommend the Tripp Trapp™ chair to others?

All testers who give their feedback below as well as completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. What did you like about the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

So many things! Being able to choose the colour and have it personalised means it fits in with our decor perfectly and is something beautiful that my daughter can keep and love forever. It’s strong and sturdy, feels very safe (though she’s twice managed to stand up in it!!!!!). It’s easy to clean, just a million miles from my old one which looked stained and scrappy no matter how often I scrubbed it. She can sit at the table with us which has made it easier to chat to her on the same level and to share food.

  1. What did you think of the look of the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

It’s timeless and elegant. Soft colour, lovely finish, looks comfortable and the shape is very attractive. No wife legs make it less of a trip hazard than most other high chairs. It’s a real chair that’s also safe and comfortable for a baby.

  1. Did you use the Tripp Trapp™ chair at your dinner table? If so, what were your thoughts?

It’s made meal times feel more cohesive as she’s at the same height as us. It ticks away neatly and blends in nicely.

  1. If you received the Baby Set (to turn the Tripp Trapp™ chair into a high chair) what were your thoughts?

It’s comfortable, safe and she absolutely loves it. We like not needing straps which only get grubby in time.

  1. Would you recommend the Tripp Trapp™ chair to others?

Unreservedly. It’s a genuinely beautiful piece, while being incredibly functional, easy to use, clean, store. I’m over the moon at how lovely it is and it’s made mealtimes a lot easier. My daughter loves it and is always eager to sit in it.

1. What did you like about the Tripp Trapp™ chair?
In a busy household, the fact it wipes clean so easily it its most welcome feature.
I also like that it has a wide seat, so less chance of the toddler falling off it.

2. What did you think of the look of the Tripp Trapp™ chair?
Looks wise it blends in with our neutral kitchen. However the design is unique and very recognisably a Tripp Trapp chair

3. Did you use the Tripp Trapp™ chair at your dinner table? If so, what were your thoughts?
The hole for the baby set was a total gunk magnet. We solved this issue by turning the chair panel round (back to front) but the availability of a small plug to fit into this might be an idea.
I liked how close it got to the table - minimising the amount of food dropped on the floor, but i felt that better cushioning was needed on the feet as it marked my floor.
My toddler also wants to get on and off the sides, which is not easy with the slanting side bar (he manages this move fine with the Ikea chair at his grandparents).

4. If you received the Baby Set (to turn the Tripp Trapp™ chair into a high chair) what were your thoughts?
Not used but looks very well made

5. Would you recommend the Tripp Trapp™ chair to others?
Yes. Its negatives are largely outweighed by the positives.

  1. What did you like about the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

Really good quality, pretty to look at, fits under our table well and saves so much space compared to the one we were using. The foot tray catches most of the food my cheeky child 'drops' making it easier to clean up 😆

  1. What did you think of the look of the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

It looks lovely, I struggled to choose a colour as there were so many nice ones!

  1. Did you use the Tripp Trapp™ chair at your dinner table? If so, what were your thoughts?

Yes, we did. DD loves being able to join us properly at the table and the chair is at the perfect height.

  1. If you received the Baby Set (to turn the Tripp Trapp™ chair into a high chair) what were your thoughts?

It looks lovely, seems very comfortable but we had to buy the accompanying harness to stop DD climbing out onto the table... I was surprised it didn't come with the harness. Maybe everyone else has children who will sit still 🤷🏼🙈

  1. Would you recommend the Tripp Trapp™ chair to others?

Absolutely, we are really loving it.

We have had a Trip Trapp for 18 years. It is still going strong and still in use on a daily basis. Been through 3 kids. Though starting to wonder if our "baby" should get a proper chair as he is now nearly 6 ft tall? But every time we say we are going to get rid of it he protests and we just put the step down another level!

I also use it as a ladder to reach the top cupboards!

  1. What did you like about the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

I loved the colour (mint) and I also love that we can use it for years to come.

  1. What did you think of the look of the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

Really stylish and fit right in with our decor

  1. Did you use the Tripp Trapp™ chair at your dinner table? If so, what were your thoughts?

Yes, I pulled it right up to the table. I perhaps will buy the tray to fit on so the baby doesn't ruin the table!

  1. If you received the Baby Set (to turn the Tripp Trapp™ chair into a high chair) what were your thoughts?

I like that it turns into a high chair my baby has chubby legs so it's been a bit difficult to get her legs in but once they're in it's great.

  1. Would you recommend the Tripp Trapp™ chair to others?

Yes I think it's an all round great chair and will last us a very long time.

We bought two Tripp Trapps 14 years ago for my older two DC and they are still going strong and look fab. Dc3 (8) used one until about a year ago and we gave the other one away to a friend, they do seem to genuinely last forever!

  1. What did you like about the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

It was very easy to put together, and straight away you could see it is excellent quality, long lasting and hard wearing.  The fact that its wooden is a big plus for me.

My little girl loves that it's not a baby chair and it's her 'big girl chair'.  I feel she sits alot better at the dinning table, is able to sit close to the table and just like everyone else.

 2. What did you think of the look of the Tripp Trapp™ chair?

I love that it comes in so many different colours to match your decor.  I also love that it fits in well with the furniture, it doesnt stick out as being for baby/toddler and looks nice at the dinning table.

  1. Did you use the Tripp Trapp™ chair at your dinner table? If so, what were your thoughts?

Yes, this is where we use it all the time. My LG is quite small, so I liked that I could adjust the foot plate and seat to suit her height.

 4. If you received the Baby Set (to turn the Tripp Trapp™ chair into a high chair) what were your thoughts?

We did get this, it was very easy to set up however my daughter didn't want to use it as she wanted to sit like the rest of us which she did fine.

It is however a great add on and I would definitely use for a younger child.

  1. Would you recommend the Tripp Trapp™ chair to others?

Yes I would.  We had a plastic highchair gifted to us and that ended up broken and having to be put in the bin.

I wish I had had this when my daughter started weaning as although it is more expensive, it would (and will) last for years and would probably use for another child if we have one.  From that point of view the expense is worth it as you dont have to buy twice.  It is also much easier to keep clean, no bits where food can hide and more hygienic.

We've got two. DD(13) now has hers in her room as a desk chair and DS(10) still uses his. It will become his desk chair. DH and I sit on them too.

My kids are 20,18 and 16 and we LOVE Tripp trapp chairs. We bought one forever ago and when dc3 needed additional support for her disability, we were provided with another by the OT. Tripp Trapp also offer adaptations for kids with disabilities who need extra support.
Amazing piece of kit that allows older kids to join in at mealtimes without falling off dining chairs or requiring giant adaptive chairs.

Hauck do a very similar chair for £70, although I found it in Aldi for £40 a few years ago. You’re just paying for the name with Tripp Trapp.

That's what I thought for years! LOL I bought 3 of those Hauck chairs for the first 3 of my 7 children. I was sure I was getting everything the Tripp Trapp ones did, minus the name. They were OK but I couldn't wait to get them gone when the kids got a bit older - several parts broke on them over the years too - seats, back rest, etc. They weren't very comfortable either.

Fast forward to testing this chair for my 7th child, who is age 3. I was genuinely impressed by the shape of the chair, it's much nicer than the cheap copy chair. It's far more compact, goes up at the table without getting in the way. And my son absolutely loves it - he sits on it to do just about everything thru the day.

I'll admit that I wouldn't usually pay that for a child's chair, but it really IS good, and far better than the cheap imitation.
