Recruitment has now closed

Sky Broadband are looking for Mumsnet users to test out their new app, Sky Broadband Buddy, which allows parents to have control over their family’s internet usage by being able to pause your internet, filter sites and manage screen time.

This product test is open to all UK MNers who have at least one child aged 6-12 and have a Sky Broadband account with Sky Hub 2 or later, and an Android or iOS device that you own.

Selected testers will be given:

  • An exclusive offer for Sky Broadband’s newest Fibre product, Sky Broadband Superfast and Sky Broadband Boost for just £18.99 per month (Currently £29.50pm) with a 12 month minimum term, which is a saving of £126 over the course of the year*

To become a tester, Sky will need to sign you up to the above package. As a part of the sign up process, Sky will need to confirm if you're eligible to take part. The easiest way for them to do this is by checking your account number, but if you're not able to find this easily you can sign up giving details of the email address you believe to be linked to your Sky Broadband account. We will be selecting eligible testers at random following this process and Sky will give you a call to get you set up.

Here’s what Sky Broadband have to say: “In May we launched our brand new app, Sky Broadband Buddy, which gives parents the ultimate level of control over their family’s internet usage. Buddy takes parental controls to the next level with its market leading features such as being able to pause your internet, filter sites and manage screen time on devices on WiFi and mobile data.”

If you are interested in getting this offer and becoming a tester for Sky Broadband Buddy, please fill out the following survey and if you are successful, we will let you know via email, and Sky will call you via the number attached to your Sky account to set you up with the new package.

Selected testers will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet and fill in a short survey. Everyone who leaves the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher each of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck
MNHQ

Has anyone had their call from Sky yet?

Scoleah · 09/07/2019 19:16

Nothing yet @StuntNun

Scoleah · 12/07/2019 14:24

Had my phone call,
All set up was told it'll go live in 24hours.
Wasn't expecting it to be that quick but may be because I already have fibre with them.
Looking forward to Testing!

StuntNun · 12/07/2019 14:39

Me too, should be going within one working day. I'm looking forward to trying out the Sky Buddy app.

Scoleah · 12/07/2019 15:53

Grin Definatley an evil Grin!
Daughter isn't Liking I can see exactly what she's going on by looking at the history on the App.
I'm currently knocking the internet on & off every time I need her to get me something..
GrinI'm not really, but how good is this, I feel Powerful & in control Halo

StuntNun · 12/07/2019 18:01

My app isn't working yet so it will probably be Monday now. I'm looking forward to being able to turn the Internet off at homework time and at the kids' screens off time.

Scoleah · 13/07/2019 15:08

Hi @AbbiCMumsnet
Is there a special number we need to contact regarding our account?
I've tried speaking to them on messenger but have been told they can't deal with my account on that service anymore.
It shows I'm being charged £5 for the Calls when it states they are free so just wanted to know if it could be sorted.

AbbiCMumsnet · 15/07/2019 17:15

Hi @Scoleah, please see my message for further details on your query Smile

Is anyone else's Broadband much slower than before? We're experiencing apps not working because they can't access the WiFi and even short children's programs are taking so long to download on On Demand that they pause part way through to download the next section.

Laurajp35 · 22/07/2019 21:25

Hi can someone confirm how to give the feedback for this test please?

StuntNun · 23/07/2019 12:24

My Broadband connection is definitely much worse. It's currently taking 17 minutes to download a 13-minute On Demand program.

Tuesdayrain · 26/07/2019 09:39

My broadband is also much worse. I had to remove the VPN from my dd's iPad as it just wouldn't play at all.

ChocolateTea · 29/07/2019 11:53

We have had a LOT of problems, came to try and find the feedback thread. One thing, our customer advisor is brilliant and has helped immensely. However, we had to get a new hub, which is showing slightly faster speeds but not hugely, our sky + box no longer connects so I have no on demand, the buddy app can't find the new hub, and on the old hub just adding DSs phone meant he was blocked from everything, even on mobile data, whatever I tried, which went down like a lead balloon. Current advisor is away for a week, so waiting for her to return to help us, but so far I'm really not getting very far - I tried it three times with the old hub and just couldn't get it to work properly

StuntNun · 31/07/2019 09:36

What does pausing the Internet actually do? I just tried it and my son was able to continue playing Fortnite on the PC.

UterusUterusGhali · 01/08/2019 23:01

I've only just got it up and running (I think) but I can't get the app to acknowledge me iyswim.
I don't know if my phone is just a bit too old (2 year old iPhone) or what.
The internet does seem slower but it's always been awful where I live. Slightly worried about calling them as last time I did it cost £30 for the call!
