No, mine was fine. Check the cable?

picklemepopcorn · 06/03/2019 15:04

I think we may have mini quiche for tea tonight.

Ooh, what about Yorkshires! Mmm.

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 06/03/2019 15:09

Cable seems fine... Confused

Maybe it’s just because it’s new, I will observe it over other bakes too I think.

On a side note, excited about quiche! Are the recipes on the app?

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 06/03/2019 15:20

They are done, they look fab! Burning smell still there from the machine, but we will see how they taste, we are having them as an after dinner treat, so, will update you all then!

No quiche recipes on the app, I sort of made it up but it was roughly 200ml cream, 100ml milk, 5 eggs, bacon lardons and enough grated cheese to scatter generously over the bottom.
Make a shortcrust pastry (or buy it) and blind bake it with baking beans on manual 200 for 20 mins. Then scatter the bacon and cheese over base, pour in the egg milk and cream mixture (season it first) and cook. I put it on manual 200 for 40 mins and checked it, still not quite done so another 10 mins on manual 200.

I made the plain sponge which was fine because we had it with custard, but would have been dry as the gobi desert without it.

Carrot cake muffins turned out OK, but defo need frosting.

I'm making something chocolatey tonight, at the request of DH work colleagues!

Also, mine smelled a bit burning plastic-ish on first use too. Went away after about 10 mins.

picklemepopcorn · 06/03/2019 16:54

I'm using mine to crisp up some jacket potatoes tonight!

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 06/03/2019 20:01

Raspberry cake bars were ok, nothing special, a little dense, not much flavour really (apart from that of the raspberries).

Fingers crossed for the next recipe.

Myusernameismud · 06/03/2019 20:51

Just put some chocolate lava cakes in to bake, will report back!

Myusernameismud · 06/03/2019 21:28

Hmmm followed the instructions to the letter, but they're not actually molten. Soft, but not molten. They taste fairly nice, but not amazing. Took them out of the machine and mould really quickly so they won't have carried on cooking.

The machine itself is great, I do love it but I'm not massively impressed with any of the recipes I've tried so far. The quiche I made is by far my fave thing that's come out of it!

Make little chocolate loads tonight and they came out amazing. Will be sure to get pictures tomorrow and reviews from work.

Rockbird · 07/03/2019 18:05

Chocolate chip muffins. Success!

jamoncrumpets · 07/03/2019 19:15

Their recipe book isn't the best really, is it? I'm going to try using some of my tried and tested old favourite recipes in there instead.

Rockbird · 07/03/2019 19:22

I must admit there seems to be a touch of the sledgehammer/nut going on. Recipes I've looked at so far seem to be far more complicated than equivalent oven ones I would use. Also, I have to admit that the novelty of setting it up three times to make a decent sized batch of cakes is wearing off...

picklemepopcorn · 07/03/2019 21:50

Chocolate bars were a bit dense and wet. DH didn't like them. Lemon drizzles were sensational.

I'm planning on making a 4x batch, and alternating muffin tin and cake bar tin. That should be pretty speedy .

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 09/03/2019 14:31

Chocolate brownies in! Wish me luck Confused

We changed out the walnuts in the recipe (from the app) for pecans as we are not walnut fans, but ither than that, recipe followed to the letter.

moomoo85 · 09/03/2019 14:55

Made the chocoholic cup cakes with my husband and son. They were great. I am loving the reliability of the bake compared to my oven which was so unpredictable that I basically had a 50% hit rate. I think next week I am going to attempt something from my hummingbird bakery book.

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 09/03/2019 14:57

They smell incredible! Here’s hoping!

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 09/03/2019 15:00

moo they look gorgeous!!!

I am interested in how other bakes fare in the machine, I am attempting several recipes from tefal to get the measure of the machine first, but am quite excited to branch out.

To the pp who commented about batch sizes, I agree, it is a pain, however there is one saving grace for me...

My diet!!! GrinCakeBlush

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 09/03/2019 15:41

Ok, so, the brownies TASTE amazing, however, the texture is crumbly and grainy and has more resemblance to a loose cookie/biscuit mixture than a brownie imho. It’s hard to judge here whether this is down to the recipe or the cake factory, however my suspicion is the recipe, so I am going to look at other brownie recipes to see if I can get some inspiration on improving the texture.

picklemepopcorn · 09/03/2019 15:52

Good to know cushion!

I find the app a bit irritating. The whole 'what's in your fridge' thing- ingredients are a bit random.

And is it me or are the ingredients in the wrong order? I seem to find myself scanning for information a lot.

Rockbird · 09/03/2019 16:44

The choc chip muffins were lovely, really nice so would absolutely make them again. I'm going to test it later with bog standard fairy cakes and see if the result differs from an oven. It's hard to tell when you use their recipes.

picklemepopcorn · 09/03/2019 17:09

The lemon drizzle was a bog standard Victoria sponge recipe, but all ingredients in together. No creaming butter and sugar first. That was impressive.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 09/03/2019 22:04

Had great feedback on the mini banana bread. I don't like that sort of thing but the six went in a heartbeat.
