This activity is now closed

This is the feedback thread for the 50 MNers who tested out EdPlace’s online Maths activities and revision materials with their DC. This service test was open to all UK MNers with children who are preparing for their year 6 SATs and need an educational boost in Maths.

If you don't fancy reading the full thread, you can take a look at the highlights here: Mumsnetters review Edplace

All testers were required to complete 20 or more activities across the 4 week period in order to gain the most out of the service in the follow up to SATs, however if you are a regular subscriber to EdPlace you are able to complete as many or as few activities as you like.

Non-testers, in order to to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £150 Amazon voucher, please answer the following question/complete the following statement: What does ‘success’ mean to you? If easier, you can complete the following statement; “Success is seeing my child…”

Here’s what EdPlace has to say: “We are a National Curriculum aligned, online learning hub dedicated to helping your child achieve their best in English, maths and science from Year 1- GCSE. Trusted by tutors and parents, we help boost results via our worksheets, assessments and revision materials - taking your child on a personalised learning journey to success. This exam period, we’re shining a light on the positive impact education can have on a child’s confidence and development. Let’s #ReviseandShine by sharing what success means above and beyond exams.”

For the trial, each participant and their DC were required to:

  • Complete a minimum of 5 maths activities a week.
  • Complete an initial and final assessment to measure their progress.

Each participant and their DC received:

  • A personalised learning journey devised by a tutor.
  • Access to EdPlace’s English, maths and science subscription with 1000s of online worksheets, assessments, maths tutorial videos and revision materials.
  • Progress monitoring to ensure they’re on the right track.
  • Weekly progress reports for the parent to give them visibility to their child’s development and comprehension levels

Testers please answer the following questions:

  1. Overall how satisfied were you with EdPlace?
  2. Did both you and your DC enjoy using EdPlace?
  3. What did you and your DC like most about EdPlace?
  4. Do you think EdPlace helped get your child ready for their Maths SATs exam?
  5. Would you recommend EdPlace to a friend or family member?

Testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw, where one tester will receive a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Success is seeing my child feel confident in themselves and their abilities.

Success is seeing my child try to take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves and to try their best at whatever is their level of potential.

Takora · 19/06/2018 18:26

Success is seeing my child achieve their personal best.

CantStandMeow · 20/06/2018 20:50

Non tester here: Success is seeing my child persevering.

lovemyflipflops · 22/06/2018 07:28

Success is seeing my child, trying their best, encouraging and supporting others to do the same, accepting when their hard efforts have not meant their work has not met others expectations and can move on to their next goal, and ultimately becoming a rounded grounded happy young adult, who can guide and inspire others.

daniel1996 · 22/06/2018 07:35

Success is seeing my child is seeing my child handle positive experiences with gratitude and grace, and handle failures with resilience.

CopperPan · 22/06/2018 13:41

Success is seeing my child achieve happiness and fulfilment, however they choose to define it.

EdPlace sounds fab and I'm certainly looking to try it out with my little lot.

I wasn't a tester so I'll try to answer the question 'What does success mean to you.'

Firstly it's NOT a monetary value. To me success is more about happiness, health and contentment.

All the people that I believe are successful have followed their dreams with honesty. It isn't always easy and there may be pitfalls along the way - but ultimately these people are doing what they want to do. My Dad always said to me that work is 75% of your life - so make sure you're doing something that you love.

I believe this goes for relationships too. If it isn't working - move on. There's some things you can't force!

Byrdie · 25/06/2018 11:34

Success is seeing my child happy and getting better at anything they've been trying hard at. If I'm being brutally honest, my children appear to be fairly academically bright so it is easy for me to say that I just want to see them happy. Being even more brutally honest if they were not good at school I think I would be very concerned. Education is really important in my view and I don't believe that many children are able to 'succeed' in terms of school marks Without a lot of investment (whether that's financial or time) from parents.

Chapman31 · 25/06/2018 14:15

Non tester-

Success is seeing my children feeling happy and safe. It’s seeing them trying new things and not giving up.

KittyKat88 · 28/06/2018 22:56

Non-tester:

Success is seeing my child expressing a vivid imagination, being happy and confident, willing to accept new challenges and loving her life to the fullest! Grin

Megansmumsie · 29/06/2018 11:42

Non tester.

Success is seeing my child happy and confident, inquisitive and resourceful. Success is having my child fulfil her own dreams without me at her side nudging her, watching her flourish.

Caribbeanyesplease · 29/06/2018 12:43

Success is seeing my child focus on a task and give it their best shot

sally2489 · 29/06/2018 16:51

To me success is being contented with the life you are living and having lots of love and support around you.

k8vincent · 29/06/2018 17:34

Success: not being crippled by fear of failure. Having a go, even if you might get it wrong. Getting it wrong and working out how to get it right another time. Trying again.

mrsglowglow · 30/06/2018 10:41

Success is seeing my child handle a difficult and upsetting situation and work out how to get through it. It's so tough seeing them hurt and there is no magic wand to make it better but by dealing with it themselves their confidence is boosted. Important skills learnt to lead them through life. It was easy to fix their troubles when they were little but teenage years can be so hard and resilience is vital.

Winningbeauty · 03/07/2018 21:52

Tester We were asked originally to post the SATs scores of the tester DD1 got 109 in Maths, still not sure if the program helped but she did all the exercises set and we are really happy with her score.

CarmonEileen · 27/07/2018 18:03
