This activity is now closed

This is the feedback thread for the 50 MNers who tested out EdPlace’s online Maths activities and revision materials with their DC. This service test was open to all UK MNers with children who are preparing for their year 6 SATs and need an educational boost in Maths.

If you don't fancy reading the full thread, you can take a look at the highlights here: Mumsnetters review Edplace

All testers were required to complete 20 or more activities across the 4 week period in order to gain the most out of the service in the follow up to SATs, however if you are a regular subscriber to EdPlace you are able to complete as many or as few activities as you like.

Non-testers, in order to to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £150 Amazon voucher, please answer the following question/complete the following statement: What does ‘success’ mean to you? If easier, you can complete the following statement; “Success is seeing my child…”

Here’s what EdPlace has to say: “We are a National Curriculum aligned, online learning hub dedicated to helping your child achieve their best in English, maths and science from Year 1- GCSE. Trusted by tutors and parents, we help boost results via our worksheets, assessments and revision materials - taking your child on a personalised learning journey to success. This exam period, we’re shining a light on the positive impact education can have on a child’s confidence and development. Let’s #ReviseandShine by sharing what success means above and beyond exams.”

For the trial, each participant and their DC were required to:

  • Complete a minimum of 5 maths activities a week.
  • Complete an initial and final assessment to measure their progress.

Each participant and their DC received:

  • A personalised learning journey devised by a tutor.
  • Access to EdPlace’s English, maths and science subscription with 1000s of online worksheets, assessments, maths tutorial videos and revision materials.
  • Progress monitoring to ensure they’re on the right track.
  • Weekly progress reports for the parent to give them visibility to their child’s development and comprehension levels

Testers please answer the following questions:

  1. Overall how satisfied were you with EdPlace?
  2. Did both you and your DC enjoy using EdPlace?
  3. What did you and your DC like most about EdPlace?
  4. Do you think EdPlace helped get your child ready for their Maths SATs exam?
  5. Would you recommend EdPlace to a friend or family member?

Testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw, where one tester will receive a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Success is seeing my DS become more independent, loving, respectful and happy young people, as equipt as then can be for the 'big wide world' beyond the garden gate.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 14/06/2018 08:01

TESTER

  1. We were fairly satisfied with EdPlace but it was very time-consuming. There were far more lessons/tests to complete than we anticipated and on top of other homework it was too much. My daughter was really unhappy and wished we'd never applied for the trial!
  1. My daughter hated using EdPlace for the reasons given above. It was a real chore for her.
  1. The progress monitoring was a positive.
  1. I think that EdPlace may have increased my daughter's confidence slightly prior to sitting her SATS.
  1. My daughter learns Singapore Maths in school so EdPlace teaches maths in a different way than she is used to. I think this is why she found it so time consuming and difficult. I wouldn't recommend it to a parent who's child does Singapore Maths.

Success is seeing my child having fun with what they are doing and enjoying feeling more and more confident about his skills.

Success is seeing my child working hard and having fun and getting those lightbulb moments that mean even the toughest challenges start to make sense so their confidence grows.

jochrisbryan · 15/06/2018 15:37

Success is seeing my child happy, forget all the stages that they should be at, forget all else, seeing a child grow and learn and above all be happy....that is all they need to conquer what life throws at them.

Success is seeing my child happy, enjoying learning, and growing in independence. Seeing him be kind and considerate towards others, and equipped to deal with life's ups and downs.

debjani · 16/06/2018 08:23

Success is seeing my child feel confident about and interested in a subject and eager to do so and progress in it (and get good marks...) I'm always pleased when they talk about it to me as that means they feel enthusiastic about the subject.

debjani · 16/06/2018 08:24

Ps I'm a non tester

Success is seeing my child become independent, confident and proud of their achievements both academic and social (and understanding not everyone will get the highest mark)

maclinks · 16/06/2018 17:30

What does ‘success’ mean to you? If easier, you can complete the following statement; “Success is seeing my child…Happy , in employment and managing their money and relationships

Pitapotamus · 16/06/2018 22:35

Success is seeing my child grow in confidence.

GetKnitted · 17/06/2018 00:02

Success is seeing my child… walk up to the new child at school and offer their friendship

Aftereights91 · 17/06/2018 07:59

Success is seeing my child happy and healthy, nothing else matters.

PurpleGoose · 17/06/2018 14:20

Success is seeing my child develop into a: happy, healthy, confident, independent individual who will persevere when things get tough.

leanneth · 17/06/2018 15:24

Success is seeing my children do their best and achieve their potential. Too often, this is left to chance by parents but I like to see what my children are doing and proovide activities and resources at home to help them learn.
Some may see this as pushy but I just think it’s helping to encourage my children get the beat possible start in life. Education is important, but to a six year old so is playing mine craft or to two and four year olds- so is watching Paw Patrol and Fireman Sam!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 17/06/2018 19:32

Success is seeing my child take that leap of faith and being happy and confident to try something new.
Success is an arbitrary measure and different for each individual.

TwoGinScentedTears · 17/06/2018 19:34

Success is seeing my child soar, flying high, achieving his best and thoroughly enjoying it while he does it.

gemima27 · 17/06/2018 23:39

non tester, sucess is seeing my child happy...whether doing well at school, or just being happy being there...i dont think you can have one without the other, so enjoying school is success to me.

Natsai1 · 18/06/2018 18:21

No tester: success is seeing my child rising above adversity to achieve his goals. When society expects him to be below par, he constantly shows that he's way above
