This activity is now closed

This is the thread for the 10 Mumsnetters who tested out the Ebac Dehumidifier for air drying their laundry indoors.

You can read a summary of their feedback here.

Non testers in order to be entered into a prize draw, where one MNer will win a £200 voucher, please answer this question: Do you own a dehumidifier and use it for indoor laundry drying - perhaps you have tips for making your laundry dry quicker? Or maybe have tips on how to make your clothes feel softer?

Here is what Ebac have to say: “The UK's wet climate often leaves no other choice than to dry laundry indoors. If you don't have the space or budget for a tumble dryer then radiators and airers can be the only way to get laundry dry. This takes time, creates space problems and leads to a build up of additional condensation and dampness around the home. An Ebac dehumidifier efficiently dries laundry but unlike a tumble dryer also eliminates excess moisture by removing condensation and dampness caused day to day activities such as showering, cooking and poor ventilation. This not only prevents mould and unpleasant odours but also filters the air during use helping improve air quality throughout the home.”

Testers please answer the following feedback questions:

  • How much water was collected/removed?
  • What did you feel were the benefits of using the dehumidifier over your usual method of drying laundry indoors?
  • Did you find there were any improvements in air quality/humidity/condensation? If so please explain
  • How easy did you feel the product was to use?
  • Would you continue to use this product and would you recommend it to a friend or family member?

All testers who post the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Non tester - I don't currently own a dehumidifier. We had one to help with damp in our flat and it would never have occurred to me to use it to help dry washing. It's obvious but not something that i had thought about at the time.

TheWizardofWas · 19/02/2018 22:56

Non tester here. No dehumidifier. No real good. DP does the laundry and does hang it out very carefully. I do too much overlapping because I am lazy. His way it dries quicker. Bit of breeze through can help too. It is always washday here though.

HoneywithLemon · 19/02/2018 23:47

Non-tester I have a dehumidifier which is currently on the blink and I miss it so much. It makes such a difference in the time it takes to get through my washing. I can't manage without it!

No I do not own a dehumidifier. I dry clothes on the radiators and turn over once dry/almost dry so other side can dry too. I always use soda crystals in my wash for softer clothes as we live in a hard water area

Non-Tester have seriously been considering getting one for a while but hubby has not been keen , this will show his how useful it will be as we dont have a tumble drier and alos have a damp issue in the living room.

Must use the dehumidifier

RaininSummer · 20/02/2018 08:17

I have a dehum for years as my house has damp tendencies. Useful for washing and does make the room warmer.

MakeTeaNotWar · 20/02/2018 08:21

Non tester - we do not have a dehumidifier and dry clothes on radiators and clothes horses. This has really opened by eyes - I had no idea about the water that would be produced by drying clothes. I am definitely interested in learning more

I would be interested to try a dehumidifier, our house feels a little damp. I try to dry laundry outside but in the winter used a condenser tumble dryer. I find tumble drying makes clothes softer but shrinks some things too Blush

Namethecat · 20/02/2018 10:28

Unfortunately I wasn't one of the lucky ones to trial this. Why ? Lol all is forgiven though. I don't have a tumble dryer due to space and due to living in a wet area of the U.K am forced to dry most of the washing during the winter months indoors. Sadly my house is already a bit damp so going by these reviews - it's time to get saving up to get one.

I’m sold! Really need one.

Hithere1981 · 20/02/2018 10:51

Non tester sorry I didn’t complete
I don’t have one.
I will be getting one though
I use softener and timber dryer but it’s expensive and not great for the environment so looking for alternatives

Scoleah · 20/02/2018 11:21

Non tester- no I don't own a dehumidifier, but wish I did!

I normally just make sure the clothes have properly spun in the washing machine (as sometimes they don't) and then peg them out (if it isn't raining in Wales!) and then normally fetch them in still damp/wet and put them on the radiators in the evening, when I normally have the heating on anyway!

I don't have a dehumidifier, but have thought often about getting one as I have asthma which I think is aggravated by damp air. It has been interesting to read the feedback. I rely on a tumble drier more than I would like to dry clothes. In the summer I like using the washing line, but then the clothes take much longer to iron. I like the idea of using a dehumidifier to deal with damp towels and things like swimming costumes - not things that have been washed, but the normal things found hanging around in the bathroom.

No, I don't have a dehumidifier and to be honest I don't think we would need one! I live in a new build and I often find the air way too dry. I dry all my clothes in a condenser tumble dryer as we have limited outdoor drying space. Tumbling clothes definitely makes them softer - I'll admit I'm not a fan of "crispy" clothes that have been dried outside!

I don't own a dehumidifier, but goodness I'd love one!
For space reasons, we can't have one. But I can dry laundry relatively quickly in a day, by opening windows and allowing good breeze into the house, along with not over crowding the drying rack.

For soft laundry, has to fabric conditioner :)

Outlookmainlyfair · 20/02/2018 13:09

Non tester: I’m currently refurbishing our home and after loads of consideration ruled out a tumble drier as I can’t justify it in grounds of cost and eco credentials. I would love a dehumidifier as the washing machine is in a tiny utility adjoining the kitchen and it would help drying times and as it the room we will use more than all others it will be great for our general standard of living with better air quality.

Catabogus · 20/02/2018 13:52

Non-tester - I have an ancient dehumidifier I got for nothing on freecycle a few years ago. It’s great! I do wonder if a new one would be a lot more energy efficient though?

Candyperfumegirl · 20/02/2018 13:55

Non tester. I like to dry outside, its lovely and windy today so I've actually gotten a lot done today. Otherwise it's the clothes house by a radiator.

Royalsteph · 20/02/2018 14:21

I don't have a dehumidifier. I find if you spin the clothes on the highest spin, they are a lot easier to dry. I have some hooks above the washing machine that I hang clothes on to dry. The room door gets shut and I find they dry overnight or during the day.

Belmo · 20/02/2018 14:35

Non tester - don’t own a dehumidifier but I would like one, hard work drying clothes on the winter!

BlueTablecloth · 20/02/2018 14:38

i don't own a dehumidifier, though these reviews are tempting me. I currently crack open the window when drying laundry indoors to get rid of condensatiom/smell

CMOTDibbler · 20/02/2018 15:57

Non tester - we've used a dehumidifier to dry laundry for 11 years now. I hang as much as possible on hangers from the winged airer and a Lakeland Hangaway. This maximises the surface area, and as a bonus things go direct from airer to wardrobe as they have minimal creases

MrsFrTedCrilly · 20/02/2018 16:39

Thinking about buying a dehumidifier haven’t saved up enough yet! My tip for drying indoors is to turn over clothes when they are drying on a rack and use sock hangers for small items.
