Gousto has asked us to find 100 Mumsnetters to test one of their recipe boxes. Testers will be sent a family box of four meals (for four people) to try out with their family and will then be asked to leave feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. Two of the four meals selected will be recipes from a new family-friendly range launched in partnership with Annabel Karmel.

Here’s what Timo Boldt, CEO and Founder of Gousto says: “For people who want to cook and enjoy good food together but don’t always have the time, ingredients or know-how to do it well, Gousto delivers simple ways to (re) discover the joys of cooking, so you can choose what you want, cook it with confidence and enjoy sharing it with others.

Taking the hassle out of planning, shopping and cooking, Gousto delivers up to 4 meals for the week with the ingredients and recipe ready to make, so there’s no more ‘what’s for dinner’ panic.

This month, we’ve launched a 3-month partnership with family cooking expert, Annabel Karmel to introduce 20 additional family-friendly recipes to our menu. Supporting busy families with tried-and-tested, nutritionally balanced meals, proven to suit fussy eaters, including Heavenly Hidden Veg Bolognese and Mouthwatering Veggie Mac & Cheese – the new recipes will allow you to enjoy cooking dishes which suit everyone around the dinner table.

Each recipe uses Gousto’s fresh, quality ingredients – including 100% British meat, sustainable fish and free-range eggs from trusted suppliers – allowing you to know what’s in every meal and feel confident you’re feeding your family well.”

If selected, you’ll be given a unique discount code to place an order for a box (free of charge). Gousto is a subscription service, so testers will be required to create an account. However, Gousto’s customer care team will prevent the subscription from continuing automatically. You’ll then need to test the recipe box as a part of your daily routine and give your feedback on a thread on Mumsnet.

Testing will be for orders placed on the Gousto website on 10th October or 23rd October, with deliveries taking place between the 14th or 27th October. Please only sign up if you’re available to test at this time.

Please click here to apply.

All selected testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Ordered and excited to compare to Hello Fresh which we've used previously.

BookShop · 12/10/2017 07:36

Just a heads up to say I’ve ordered and used the code but Gousto have taken the value of the box today. 😡 rather annoyed at this.

Keep an eye on your bookings people.

KikisDeliveryService · 12/10/2017 08:05

I had the email that said subs on hold, which I take to mean there'll be no automatic removal of cash from my account in the future. I've also had a 'your box is coming tomorrow' type email this morning.

I've checked my bank account after bookshop's post and they've taken 1p. Not a problem as clearly a tiny amount but I would have liked to have known in advance.

Anyway, box arrives tomorrow so that's a bunch of weekend meal sorted hopefully!

talulahbelle · 12/10/2017 08:12

Too late to sign up?

sashh · 12/10/2017 08:24

Would love to try this

Moodykat · 12/10/2017 08:41

I too had the full amount taken. It seems I had previously had a box (which I had forgotten about). Mumsnet HQ are trying to rectify as it has now meant I have gone overdrawn. Eek!

QOFE · 12/10/2017 10:49

I've also paid 1p from my bank account!

duck22 · 12/10/2017 11:44

This sounds amazing! Fingers crossed

LongHaulSally · 12/10/2017 11:53

I've also had 1p taken.

Thoughts so far: the ordering and registration process was easy and straightforward and we found it quite easy to choose 4 dishes. I'm not sure what distinguishes the Annabel Karmel dishes from the other recipes? Is it just dishes that children might like? Or is the recipe 'healthier' in some way?

My main gripe is the large delivery window- Saturday 8am-7pm so it makes it very hard to plan for meals on the delivery day! Ideally we would eat something from the box for dinner but I guess I'll need to have a back-up plan in case the box doesn't show up until the evening...

BookShop · 12/10/2017 12:50

I’ve been in contact with Mumsnet and Gousto. They say some people have had the full amount taken and they have identified who they are to refund. I’ve never had a box with Gousto but I may well have signed up but not used them in the past.

The delivery window is quite large. Luckily we have a secure porch in which items can be safely left.

There was only 1 Annabel Karmel option for me when booking so I’ve taken that. I’m intrigued to find out about the menus and format for this box company is.

Mines coming tomorrow so I’ll let you know shortly.

Candyperfumegirl · 12/10/2017 18:07

Congrats to all who were selected. I had my fingers crossed for this one to compare it to my usual hello fresh, but will be checking in to see how you guys get on.

BookShop · 12/10/2017 20:18

Just an update. Gousto have rectified the charge and all money is back in my account. They’ve dealt with the issue so deftly and I cannot fault them in their customer service. Thanks.

KikisDeliveryService · 13/10/2017 17:13

My box has arrived. Well packaged in regards to Keeping everything chilled etc, but OMG so much packaging. Akin to getting takeaways plus massive delivery box. My environmental ethical sensibilities are troubled by the amount of individually plastic wrapped tiny portions of sauce/paste/vinegar. My thoughts on this would be to have a discounted ‘I have a basic larder’ recipe option to avoid getting sachets of vinegar, pots of tomato purée or honey.

The veg is largely loose at least and everything looks to be good quality.

Cooking will commence tomorrow and I’m hoping to delegate to the household youth and/or DH given how easy it should be!

Ilikesweetpeas · 13/10/2017 18:20

My box has arrived. Meat, fish and veg look very fresh although a pot of sauce had smashed in transit and spread a surprisingly long way! There is a lot of packaging, although some is reusable. Plan to cook a meal tomorrow so will report back then.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 13/10/2017 19:21

Exactly the same. Money swiftly refunded, thank you Gousto....very on the ball.

Our box arrives tomorrow.

Holliewantstobehot · 13/10/2017 20:21

Box arrived today. I too was charged a penny.

There was a lot of packaging and I was surprised to find sachets of mayo as we usually have some in. I think you should be able to remove any small items you already have at home.

Two sachets of vinegar had leaked but didn't do any damage apart from the paper bag.

Tonight I cooked the pork Mexican chilli.

I liked the apple, celery and onion mix. I thought it made the dish. The chilli was a bit spicy for us but we all ate most of it. I felt the chilli could have used some veg in it, but that might be because we usually have a lot of veg in ours. The cheese was lovely quality I could have just eaten the whole block on its own. On the whole it was an enjoyable meal. My dd (11) loved helping to cook it and the recipe card was really easy to follow. The fact everything was measured out was more convenient than I thought it would be and there was a less mess to clear up after.

I was a bit disappointed that the use by dates on three of my meals was Monday and the other Tuesday. I felt it would have been better to allow a day extra in case you were eating out or something came up but I shall use everything in time.

Just realized that does give me a days leeway so that's good.

GloriaHotcakes · 14/10/2017 08:10

Mine arrived yesterday, I'm really impressed. The fish and meat looks fresh and was well packaged. The veg looks very fresh too.

I like the little sachets of honey and vinegar etc, I like that they've not assumed I've already got it in my stock cupboard.

I'm cooking lamb biryani for tea and then we're having crab linguine tomorrow. I don't really enjoy cooking but am looking forward to this.

Badders08 · 14/10/2017 08:14

Box arrived Thurs in the timeframe specified
Well packaged
I liked that the veg was all loose
Yesterday I made the glazed salmon and chinese rice
Here it is...huge portion as it was dhs!
Very tasty

Our box arrived at 9am this Morning, thankfully early in the delivery time frame. I had left instructions to leave it in a safe place so I don't see this as much of a problem.

On first look the packaging is actually less than Hello Fresh who package each meal separately. With Gousto all my meat and fish were parcelled together. Veg,rice, pasta, breadcrumbs loose. Then another package for all the condiments and sauces. We're excited to get cracking with this as everything looks nice and fresh, Just hope portion sizes are acceptable.

Just cooked the crab linguine for lunch. DS, who is very fussy loved looking through and getting the ingredients together. Even though we all love crab, he has always refused to try it.

Until now! He's tucking in and said it's lovely Shock

I'm very impressed so far.

We've just had the Annabel Karmel Asian fish fillets and rice for dinner. It was nice and went down well!

A few observations:
We switched the chicken stock cube for vegetable (as one of the DC is pescatarian), there was far too much sauce for the veggies and I left out the sugar as well but it tasted lovely without. The fish was very popular with the DC but then again, it's fairly similar to the type of thing that we normally eat!

KikisDeliveryService · 14/10/2017 19:36

We've had the pork, pineapple & red onion tacos this evening, prepped by DH and DS1. The outcome was delicious and we would do it again but substitute the mayo for greek yogurt, use bigger tortillas (it was a very messy meal so it would be good to be able to wrap them like fajitas) and pickle a little less red onion, but we're very likely to put the recipe into general rotation and cook it again.

Comments from the cooks: it would be helpful if the ingredients were listed in the order of use on the recipe cards, and there was an anomaly where it said you'd need sugar but then sugar was not used anywhere in the recipe. But otherwise they said that knowing they had all the ingredients to hand without having to do extra thinking or shopping made the cooking a pleasurable experience. I really enjoyed not having to do any of the mental load of meal planning and shopping! I may be converted despite the excessive packaging.

Badders08 · 14/10/2017 19:38

Love the lack of waste

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 15/10/2017 10:20

It’s just arrived! My DD is 10 and was excited to see all the different food, and she’s promised me she’ll try everything as she’s very fussy.

I expected to have to split the meat etc but it’s all individually portioned which is great.

I’m very impressed so far.
