This is the feedback thread for the 30 Mumsnetters who have been testing the Tefal one-pot digital cooker Cook4Me Connect (RRP £319.99).

Here’s what Tefal have to say about the product: “You don’t need to be a masterchef to achieve delicious meals in no time! Tefal have innovated again, and now give you Cook4Me.

Cook4Me is a one-pot digital cooker, ideal for parents looking to make fast and fresh meals:
- It is easy to use and intuitive: Cook4Me comes with 50 built-in recipes, and features a digital screen with guided cooking steps.
- Cook4Me cooks under pressure, which means you will save a lot of time. For example, after browning and pre-heating, it cooks a Chicken Tikka Masala in 3 minutes, a Thai Green Chicken curry in 4 minutes and a Risotto in 9 minutes (and no need to stir!)…
- It is the ideal all-in-one cooker, with up to 6 cooking manual modes: not only does it pressure cook, but it also steams, browns, simmers, gentle-cooks and automatically keeps your food warm. Its dishwasher-safe bowl can feed 6 people, perfect for the whole family or for batch-cooking.

Cook4Me comes in a standard version, with 50 built-in recipes (RRP is £269.99), and in a Connected version, that works with My Cook4Me app, giving access to over 100 recipes (RRP is £319.99).”

Testers, please ensure that you’ve tested the digital cooker using both the recipes and the manual/ingredients modes and then give your feedback by answering the following questions as well as completing the survey we will email to you.

Non-tester here! I am not skilled in the kitchen at all, so this seems like a dream! I'd love to make a beef stroganoff but don't have the confidence or the skill to do this independently.. this could make it happen!! I'm also terrible at cooking rice - I have to buy boil in the bag because if I try it straight from the pan - it ends up gooey & sticky, not light & fluffy like I'm hoping for!

MimsyBorogroves · 14/07/2017 12:30

Getting more confident at tweaking recipes and manual method.

Spag Bol tonight, though.

Dessallara · 14/07/2017 12:41

Non-tester. I would love to make a risotto, I've never done one before.

ClashCityRocker · 14/07/2017 13:03

Non tester. I would like to cook chicken and chorizo risotto in one of these and can see from pps that this has been successful.

rejcomp · 14/07/2017 13:06

No... :D probably not the answer you were looking for but an answer none the less.

kel1981 · 14/07/2017 13:39

I've never been able to make a good risotto so would love to try that!

andreaca · 14/07/2017 15:03

Non Tester, I`d like to try and make a sweet potato chicken curry, from scratch, all healthy ingredients and not an additive in sight.

beargryllshasabigrope · 14/07/2017 16:26

I've just found a feature that I'd not really paid attention to before, delayed start! I've set my chilli to be ready for 17.10 when we get home from football. Fantastic!

  1. How easy or difficult did you find Cook4Me Connect to use?

I found it very easy and intuitive to use. Connection with my device via Bluetooth was simple and the on screen menu was foolproof. The cooking steps for recipes were easy to follow. I also found it easy to adapt to my own recipes using the 'ingredients' option or by adapting cooking times from similar recipes in the app.

I found it easy to switch between browning and pressure cooking when using the device in manual mode - everything just seemed very obvious.

  1. Which recipes did you try? What did you think of them?

I tried a risotto, the sausage and bean stew and the bolognese from the app. I also used recipes to suggest cooking times for my own recipes such as a tagine and a curry.

I found the recipes to be a good base but made my own adaptations. However, I'm a confident cook and the kind of person who always has to fiddle with a recipe! The risotto was particularly excellent and the texture was lovely, I couldn't believe I hadn't stood over it stirring constantly! It's one I will make again and again with different additions as it was a real hit with my children too. I made enough for leftovers and shared done with a friend for lunch the following day and she described it as 'restaurant quality' and couldn't believe it was made in a pressure cooker.

I found the 'ingredients' menu especially useful and used the Cook4Me a number of times to make vegetable side dishes for other meals with great results.

I agree with other posters that I'd like to see more recipes that don't use jarred sauces etc. I'm diabetic and limit sugar in my diet and jar sauces are generally high in sugar so I try to avoid them. More use of fresh and basic ingredients such as passata would encourage me to try more recipes. However the browning function gives it more versatility than a slow cooker to adapt your own recipes, for example from the point of view of toasting my own spice blends for curry.

  1. What were your thoughts on the cooking results of the Cook4Me Connect?

I was very impressed. Vegetables always turned out well and the meals I cooked were flavoursome with good texture, particularly of the meat ingredients. I have used a slow cooker for years but am often underwhelmed by the results for some meats, particularly chicken. The Cook4Me gave very good results.

Sauces could sometimes be a little thin for my personal tastes, this was easily remedied with a little cornflour and flipping the device to browning mode for a few minutes to thicken things, again it was really easy to work out how to do this, it's a process I'm familiar with from my slow cooking adventures but the higher heat of the browning mode made it much faster and gave better thickening results.

  1. Would you recommend the Cook4Me Connect?

Definitely, and already have done so. Personally I feel that as a confident cook who is happy adapting recipes or going 'off piste' on my own, the Connected function and additional recipes don't really add a great deal of value for me, I also feel that for the extra cost the additional library of recipes could be a lot more extensive.

However regarding the function of the device, I have found it brilliant. I suffer from a chronic pain condition and standing in the kitchen at the end of a busy day is often too much for me. I had been relying on freezer and convenience food more than I'd like of late, and the Cook4Me has helped us diversify our meals and our consumption of vegetables has definitely increased, both by adding them to whole meals cooked in the device and also by making it easier and faster to cook additional side vegetables to serve with oven cooked meals. Broccoli turned out especially well.

Being able to make dishes like risotto, which I just wouldn't be able to stand and stir for 20 minutes, has been amazing. My two children have loved everything I have made and have been really interested in the workings of the Cook4Me, my seven year old loves running to the kitchen to se how much longer dinner will be! My 11 year old has downloaded the app onto her own phone and has been making lists of meals she would like to try in the future - whilst they're both pretty good eaters I feel the novelty of the Cook4Me has made them both even more open to trying exciting new things.

I have in the past used a friend's electric pressure cooker, a different popular brand, and it was a bit confusing and scary! The Cook4Me is so much easier to use and I was confident with it very quickly rather than being intimidated by it! It has had a lot of use already and will continue to be a key contributor to family meals.

I found the Cook4Me very easy to clean too, which is a massive bonus. It looks sleek and stylish despite being so big, and I'm happy to have it out on my kitchen worktop.

I was really pleased to be selected to test the Cook4Me and as a busy and very exhausted single mum I really feel that it's been a huge help in preparing healthier family meals without painful and tiring standing around in the kitchen. As a bonus I have lost 5lb in weight over the testing period thanks to reducing our reliance on convenience foods and takeaways.

My seven year old has asked to chip in with his opinion too - he loves that it cooks food so quickly and thinks it makes tasty dinners and says he gives it ten out ten stars for helping Mummy!

Just a couple of things whilst I remember:
In the manual options there are only settings for whole chicken, or boned pieces. No settings for boneless chicken breast/thigh. I have just cooked a curry which is mainly chicken thigh and had to guess the cooking time. Could not find any sample recipes that used chunks of chicken thigh pieces. I had browned it fairly well and cooked for 4 mins, came out fine.

The curry was 'Carribean Curry' from the Joe Wicks cooking for family & friends, and it's come out pretty well. (first one I've remembered to photograph)

Note to Tefal: I have had the error message 'Not a correct trame' - yes trame, a couple of times, I think when trying to browse recipes on the app whilst the machine is cooking (even though I don't think I started the recipe on the app.

Hi, just read the comments below from Welshmaenad and would really like to echo one point she made about how much better chicken comes out of the Cook4me than from a slow cooker. Since we eat an awful lot of chicken that's really important to me.

zebedee01 · 14/07/2017 19:26

These look great, and sound it too from the reviews!

I would love to cook a chicken korma but wouldn't know how!!

HopefulHamster · 14/07/2017 19:31

Non-tester - Is there a recipe you’ve never dared to cook and would really like to be able to make in the Cook4Me?
Lamb shanks - I tend to buy them pre-pared or at a restaurant - have never done them properly at home!

Compermo · 14/07/2017 20:22

Beef bourguignon. I've always cheated and used packet mixes to get the right flavours. My meals never seem to have the right depth of flavour otherwise. The machine sounds great. I used a pressure cooker for years, and really appreciated the speeded up process of it.

TefalTester123 · 14/07/2017 20:54

Made a brioche pudding from instructions in french app - typed them all up to put on here but accidentally deleted them. Anyway, here is the picture. Bit like a slightly soggy bread and butter pudding. French testers suggest adding rum & raisins, but my sons not keen on raisins. Sons a bit dubious about it but both ended up having seconds.

Tean1 · 14/07/2017 22:01

I'd love to try making rice pudding - not exotic I know but never given it a go

  1. How easy or difficult did you find Cook4Me Connect to use?
This was really easy to connect to the ipad - once or twice I needed to sync it to the ipad. It feels really intuitive to use - and I liked that it wasn't touch screen incase I touched something by accident.

DH set it up while I was at work and didn't put a few bits in - it still worked but I noticed the steam coming out of the side when I got home so added the bits - he suggested some kind of sensor to ensure it is properly put together would help (the instructions were next to it still).

  1. Which recipes did you try? What did you think of them?
We tried a few - plus some of our own. The Leek and Bacon Risotto was delicious - this was the first one I tried to cook. It was brilliant - as my first week back at work after almost a year off, I would of usually had something quick that had fallen out of the freezer (pizza etc) - this was lovely as it felt nutritious and was quick. The app was set up that we have six people - so I ended up making loads, but shared this between myself and mum for our lunch the next day which was lovely. both my fussy six year old and baby enjoyed it!

We made the Gammon joint - I was hoping to make this last for two meals, but it was so nice it was gone in one - even the kids liked it.

Pesto Chicken Risotto - this went a bit wrong because of the app setting up for 6 people, instead of four. Plus the fact DH felt he needed to add some more pesto! I think had the ingredients been in the right proportion it would have been very tasty.

Ratatouille - I have never been able to cook this. It always ends up burning to the bottom of the pan - because I get sidetracked or distracted by children. I made a batch for my lunch to have with salmon I also cooked in the machine. it was delicious and I will definitely be doing more of this!

I want to try some mini quiches next and some puddings - but have had to buy some ramekin dishes and am still not sure these are the right ones. I love bread and butter pudding so I might try that with the kids.

  1. What were your thoughts on the cooking results of the Cook4Me Connect?
DH used the C4Me to make some chunky chilli (chilli with chunks of beef). This was delicious - the meat was lovely and tender, but there wasn't the bitterness you get if its been in the slow cooker for too long.

The risotto was lovely!

I used the manual mode to steam some salmon - this was really lovely, I did have to put it in for longer, and there isn't a salmon setting on the cook for me so I used the cod setting. DH was impressed and finished the leftover salmon off from the fridge.

  1. Would you recommend the Cook4Me Connect?
Yes - I am really pleased with it. But not at the price it is. it is also very bulky and we have a tiny kitchen - so it takes over a bit. I am going to have to rejig my kitchen or the cupboards to fit it in... that aside I do I think it is going to make my slow cooker redundant. I also found I made a lot less mess - I am a sloppy cook, and the reduced amount of stirring required has meant less spillages / spitting / less use of spoons (as I use a new one each time!!).

Thank you for the opportunity to try this - and for revolutionising cooking for me.

my DH was a little bit sceptical at first - but has defintately come around to it - he has cooked at least two things before I have got home from work, which I definitely wasn't expecting.

baconbap · 14/07/2017 22:36

I'd be able to try risotto - which always seems too fiddly
