This thread is for the MNers who are trying this new ketchup with their families - read on to find out what they think!

Hellmann’s say “Hellmann’s Ketchup sweetened only with Honey. An all-natural recipe offering Mum’s more of the ingredients they want, and less of the ingredients they don’t – 36% more tomatoes, and 30% less sugar (vs. market leader standard tomato ketchup)”

Testers, please share your thoughts on the questions below and feel free to also tweet your comments and photos to @HellmannsUK (include @mumsnetinsight!)

What did you think overall about the product?
What appealed to you about trying it? - was it the all natural recipe, only being sweetened by honey, 36% more tomatoes + 30% less sugar (vs. market leader)

Are you likely to buy it again? And why?
And are you likely to recommend it to someone else - if it came up in conversation - and why?

What did you think overall about the product?
I really liked the idea of less sugar. I tend to avoid ketchup normally as I am put off by the sugar content, but would definitely be happier for the kids to have this version on a fairly regular basis.

Less sugar. While I like the idea of sweetening using honey, i know that this is just sugar in a different form! But the reduced percentage of sugar is definitely a winner.
How did it taste? What did other members of your family think about the taste?
I really liked the taste (and I am not usually a big ketchup fan). I thought it tasted more tomatoey, and higher quality than "normal" ketchup. My ketchup-loving two year old was a big fan. Five year old was not!
Are you likely to buy it again? And why?
And are you likely to recommend it to someone else - if it came up in conversation - and why?
I would definitely buy it again, due to sugar content and taste, as long as the price point wasn't too high above my usual brand. I would recommend it - again, due to the reduced sugar content.

What did you think overall about the product

it was good. I liked the taste, though couldn't taste the honey. My girls however weren't keen

I'm very conscious of the fact we eat more sugar than we should do less sugar was a big selling point*

How did it taste? What did other members of your family think about the taste?

it's a nice taste, packed full of tomatoes

Are you likely to buy it again? And why?

I would have it again, yes

And are you likely to recommend it to someone else - if it came up in conversation - and why?

I'm not sure condiments have ever come up in conversation for me! But yes, I would recommend.

What did you think overall about the product?
Loved the concept

What appealed to you about trying it? - was it the all natural recipe, only being sweetened by honey, 36% more tomatoes + 30% less sugar (vs. market leader)
Yes it was, as a first time mother currently trying to install good eating habits on my toddler, I am much more conscious of what is in the food i serve so a natural recipe is appealling

How did it taste? What did other members of your family think about the taste?
Nothing like the brand I have bought historically, it is a different taste, quite sweet so just a small amount needed but it is tasty

Are you likely to buy it again? And why?
The whole family enjoyed the flavour although I would buy it as an alternative to my usual brand rather than a replacement as we still enjoy the traditional variety

And are you likely to recommend it to someone else - if it came up in conversation - and why?
Yes - a lot of my friends are keen to cut down on artificial elements in their diets, it is a nice sauce and I will definately have it on offer at the next BBQ

What did you think overall about the product?

Overall, I enjoyed it. I liked the slightly different flavour. I find some ketchups too strong and tangy but this wasn't. DH loves ketchup and uses loads and he liked it too.

What appealed to you about trying it? - was it the all natural recipe, only being sweetened by honey, 36% more tomatoes + 30% less sugar (vs. market leader)

All of the above! I think the 36% more tomatoes do make a noticeable positive difference to the flavour.

How did it taste? What did other members of your family think about the taste?

DH (ketchup connoisseur) and me and the kids all liked it.

Are you likely to buy it again? And why?

No. I asked DH if he would like to buy it again but he said it was not different enough to justify the much higher price compared to a supermarket own brand.

And are you likely to recommend it to someone else - if it came up in conversation - and why?

Yes for the flavour but not for the price!

Justalittlebitblondie · 17/06/2017 23:34

Tested it as it appealed as a healthier version of something popular in our house.

I would not recommend it - strange as I found it to vinegary and harsh tasting - bit like cheap cafe sauce - but feedback from niece was that it was too sweet and she noticed the difference to Heinz without being told.

Overall I wouldn't recommend or buy as no one liked it.

Wold any of you testers use it in cooking. If you were making a pasta sauce, for instance, would you chuck in a few squirts - to intensify flavour or something?

DreamsInBlack · 18/06/2017 16:35

Hi Jux, yes have used in sauces, for spreading on pizza bases, in toasties and to marinade chicken. I just add different herbs and spices depending on the type flavours I'm after.

WhosTakingDeHorseToFrance · 18/06/2017 18:44

**Theimposslegirl it has less calories than standard ketchup and is sweetened with honey rather than being less calories and having an added artificial sweetener iyswim.
I get the dietitians post about it being misleading to some and being perceived as a healthy option when realistically it is still a sugary condiment albeit with slightly less sugar than the brand leader.
Personally I thought it tasted good and as I loathe artificial sweeteners I welcomed a brand with less sugar than standard ketchup.

What did you think overall about the product?
Great looking product, like the packaging
What appealed to you about trying it? - was it the all natural recipe, only being sweetened by honey, 36% more tomatoes + 30% less sugar (vs. market leader)
yes having less sugar appealed to me as I try to cut down on how much the family have
How did it taste? What did other members of your family think about the taste?
The family said it was fine and that they couldn't tell the difference to the usual ketchup.
Are you likely to buy it again? And why? yes as we don't use much and I like more natural foods
And are you likely to recommend it to someone else - if it came up in conversation - and why?
yes I was talking to some friends about it the other day

InflagranteDelicto · 22/06/2017 07:00

Really late to this - sorry!

Overall we liked this appearance of this. Label wasn't too fussy, but attractive. Nice rich colour to the sauce.

The idea of a ketchup with less sugar was the main selling point, the amount in normal ketchup scares me, and my dc eat a lot when we have it.

Taste... This has been amusing. Initially the dc didn't like. They (and dp) couldn't put their finger on it, and said it tasted weird. A few nights later I did a blind taste test, and the honey ketchup came out top! The colour was more appealing when the two bowls were side by side, and it was richer apparently. Last night the two dds were discussing it, and have decided it works best with certain foods- like fish finger sandwiches Blush

I would buy this again, they've already requested I do. I'd also recommend it if it came up in conversation. It's a great ketchup, compared to my supermarket own brand.
