Homebase are looking for 10 Mumsnetters to take part in their Garden Goals challenge. This challenge is open to all UK Mumsnetters, click here to sign up to take part.

Here’s what Homebase has to say: “We have teamed up with Anne-Marie Powell to launch our Garden Goals challenge to help families get their outside spaces ready for summer. We want to encourage those of all gardening abilities to complete a garden project; whether that be creating an edible garden, creating a patio garden, adding colour to your garden, encouraging wildlife to your garden or creating a garden for entertaining.”

Watch this short video to find out more:

Those who take part will be given a £100 Homebase voucher and a shopping list so they can gather everything they need to create their dream garden. Participants will undertake a one hour garden task, a half a day garden task, and a day's garden task of their choosing over 8 weeks and will leave updates on their progress each week on a thread on Mumsnet. We’d also want to see before, during and after photos of your green fingered creations! And for you to share your photos on social media using the #GardenGoals.

The five Garden Goals projects to choose from are:

“I want to create an edible garden”
“I want to create a patio garden”
“I want to add colour to my garden”
“I want to encourage wildlife into my garden”
“I want to create a garden for entertaining”

You can pick the one you want to take part in. And you will need to get the items required from your local Homebase store - you will be sent a shopping list for your selected task.

Note the tasks will begin w/c 8th May - please only apply if you’re around and able to work on your outside space then and for the following 8 weeks or so.

Everyone who leaves their feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £300 Homebase voucher.

Please sign up here if you’d like to take part.

Thanks and good luck!

I've been picked too GrinGrinGrin So excited that all my finger crossing worked! I'm doing 'add colour to your garden'.

DreamsInBlack · 28/04/2017 18:58

Aw, was glued to my inbox all day but no email. Well done to those picked. Looking forward to all your pics for inspiration!

Gardengirl123 · 28/04/2017 20:13

So pleased to have been chosen. My task is to create a edible garden.
Looking forward to getting started. Even got a new username Grin.

GingerKitCat · 28/04/2017 20:19

Sorry those who've missed out Sad

Chickens I'm doing the wildlife garden goal too! We shall have to compare notes Grin

Which goal are you doing scaredofthecity? I'm glad to be among gardening comrades, I feel like a giant nerd amongst friends and neighbours Grin

scaredofthecity · 28/04/2017 20:31

I'm doing the patio one. I literally went to Homebase yesterday and bought a load of bits as I was inspired by this, thinking there's no way I'm actually going to get picked!
we've got a pretty small garden and we do have some beds but they've been completely unloved for many years and are well embedded with brambles. So I think we have to wait for next year to sort them out as I don't think it's going to be easy to get rid of them all. So the patio theme is perfect. Smile
I've been outside in all weather's the last few weeks, trying to make sense of the mess that we started off with, it is so satisfying, I just wish I had taken before pics!

scaredofthecity · 28/04/2017 20:53

but then tbh it is still a mess! Ive only been 'gardening' for about 6 weeks and I have got so much to learn.

On my trip to Homebase I pretty much raided their reduced stock so it's going to be really nice to be able to treat ourselves a little bit more.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the end result for all off us.

Personally I'm hoping for a really pretty patio. One that I can be proud to show off and get great pleasure from sitting in.

IAmTheWorwax · 28/04/2017 21:08

I actually just whooped with delight, didn't think I'd been chosen after checking all day. Argh I'm so happy! I am doing an edible garden

bangbangprettypretty · 28/04/2017 22:47

Oh wow I am THRILLED to have been chosen to make a patio garden.

My baby DD is three weeks old and the nesting instinct is still going strong, we actually went to Homebase today and were looking at the bistro set featured in the video!

It is going to be a lovely way to challenge myself to create somewhere lovely for the summer!

BenLinusatemyhomework · 29/04/2017 18:03

Squee! I'm actually really excited about this. I'm going to be adding colour - I think this will mostly consist of painting furniture and the play house as there is still so much work to be done in prep for plantingin my poor neglected plot but might focus on one boarder and see if we can't juje it up a bit with some flowers.

chickensandbees · 02/05/2017 10:31

Ginger, really pleased we are doing the same. I've looked at the garden goals and am planning to do some of the following:

Install a hedghog house
Create a pond in a pot
Create a Butterfly garden
Build a bug hotel
Make a fruity bird feeder
Plant hedge
Create wildflower meadow
Plant trees
Create a Bird friendly garden
help save the bumble bee

I probably won't have time to do all these in the 8 weeks.

I'm going to have a look at homebase at lunchtime to get an idea of what to buy.

GingerKitCat · 04/05/2017 14:31

Hi chickens Smile The goals sound fab don't they!

I'm assuming we await further specific instructions for the tasks along with our voucher? I haven't missed anything have I?!

What kind of #gardengoals do the rest of you have in your patio/ edibles/ colour themes? Grin Flowers

RueDeDay · 05/05/2017 06:53

Garden goals, you say?? Where have you found these garden goals? I am adding colour, but I haven't seen any specific goals such as chickens list above? Where is that from?

GingerKitCat · 05/05/2017 10:39

Hi Rue! After the Mumsnet email checking that I still wanted to be part of it I received a second email with a link to the specific garden goals project you've been selected for (in my case, wildlife garden).

I think there was another short video and the list of goals. It was pretty generalised though, not broken down into specific weekly projects/ materials or anything yet.

I was just being nosey as I wondered what sort of ideas it was suggesting for the those of you with different themes Smile

GingerKitCat · 05/05/2017 10:44

Sorry ignore me, it was all in one email (the Mumsnet congratulations one).

Here's the link to the wildlife one. If you scroll right down to the bottom you can find the links to patio, add colour, edibles etc. I'm going to have a nosey now!

link here

BenLinusatemyhomework · 05/05/2017 12:49

Has anyone received their voucher/instructions yet?

RueDeDay · 05/05/2017 14:31

Don't know how I missed that link Blush Thanks, Ginger!

Ben, nope, waiting to hear back from HQ with more details!

RueDeDay · 05/05/2017 15:18

Just heard from HQ to say the vouchers were posted today, some cross fingers should be with everyone tomorrow or Monday!! So excited...

chickensandbees · 06/05/2017 18:12

Got my voucher!!GrinFlowers

GingerKitCat · 06/05/2017 20:08

Me too! Had a quick browse in Homebase earlier for inspiration Grin

BenLinusatemyhomework · 09/05/2017 14:54

Got my voucher today and took DD for a trip round Homebase at lunch time - ended up spending the lot on paint! Oh well at least I'm prepared (sort of).

scaredofthecity · 09/05/2017 15:05

me too! Flowers

I'm going to try and do the following tasks
• Dress your patio with furniture and accessories
• Create a mini garden using different height pots
• Plant climbers to add colour & structure
• Plant a container with bedding plants
patio

half day
• Sweep and jet wash your paving or decking ready for summer
• Build a herb garden

I'm not sure about the whole day tasks. I would love to lay a new patio or deck but that would be £££ and we don't have an existing deck to sand. I love the idea of an archway but I'm not sure where we'd put it!

what do you think bangbang?
