We gave 100 Mumsnetters the chance to test Soreen’s Lunchbox Loaves, in both banana and malt varieties. Hear what they – and their 2-11 year-old DCs – had to say, after they’d tried the lunchbox treats.

Soreen have said: “we know how hard it is to find a snack for school lunchboxes that’s both nutritious and tasty but Soreen Lunchbox Loaves strike that perfect balance. Available in Malt and Banana flavour with a satisfyingly squidgy texture, Lunchbox Loaves are individually wrapped, low in fat, contain only 95 calories and provide a source of fibre.”

“If this doesn’t already sound too good to be true, Lunchbox Loaves are suitable for vegetarians and meet the guidelines set by the Children’s Food Trust for ‘School Foods Standards’.”

Testers, please answer the following questions:

  • Did your DCs (and you if you tried them) enjoy the taste of Soreen Lunchbox Loaves? Which flavour did they prefer?
  • Were they easy to incorporate into a school packed lunch?
  • Do you think that Lunchbox Loaves are a healthier alternative to other snacks?
  • Would you buy Soreen Lunchbox Loaves again? Why?
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Soreen Lunchbox Loaves to a friend or family member?

Everyone who leaves their feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

We also asked 5 Mumsnet bloggers to test out the Soreen Lunchbox Loaves; you can read their reviews here:

Thanks and good luck,

Did your DCs (and you if you tried them) enjoy the taste of Soreen Lunchbox Loaves? Which flavour did they prefer? Unfortunately not! DD didn't like the banana. I've bring trying since then to induce her to try the regular Soreen loaf. On the upside, DP and I really like them.

  • Were they easy to incorporate into a school packed lunch? They would be, when I return to work after mat leave I expect I'll put them in my packed lunch.
  • Do you think that Lunchbox Loaves are a healthier alternative to other snacks? Yes, they are less sugary, have a decent amount of fruit.
  • Would you buy Soreen Lunchbox Loaves again? Why? Yes, healthy, handy snake or me and DP. They are strangely addictive eaten with cold ,eats, my be that's just me... I also hope to convince DD1 to try them again.
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Soreen Lunchbox Loaves to a friend or family member? Yes, definitely.

They loved both, I don't know if they couldn't tell the difference or just loved both equally!

  • Were they easy to incorporate into a school packed lunch?

We are pre-school but used them for packed lunches when out visiting and found them to be a good size.

  • Do you think that Lunchbox Loaves are a healthier alternative to other snacks?

They certainly feel more substantial and filling than other snacks that they would normally choose.

  • Would you buy Soreen Lunchbox Loaves again? Why?

Yes, they were well liked and always eaten where we normally are left with half eaten snacks.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Soreen Lunchbox Loaves to a friend or family member?

Yes, definitely!

Update: supper fussy DD actually asked for a banana loaf thenither day and said it was yummy so I think her initially reluctance was the dactbir was something new and with repeated exposure, once is tricked her into eating a couple, she's obviously decided they're nice. Thank god I've got something else to put in lunch boxes which she might actually eat!

Did your DCs enjoy the taste of Soreen Lunchbox Loaves? Which flavour did they prefer?
My three year old daughter loved the banana lunchbox loaves but she really wasn't keen on the malt ones at all.

Were they easy to incorporate into a school packed lunch?
Yes, they were very easy to add to a packed lunch. They're small enough and individually wrapped.

Do you think that Lunchbox Loaves are a healthier alternative to other snacks?
That depends on the snack. I'd still opt for fresh fruit and veg over anything else but the Soreen loaves are a 'healthier' snack than chocolate or sweets. I was a bit disappointed to see that the sugar content was still quite high and there was palm oil listed as an ingredient too.

Would you buy Soreen Lunchbox Loaves again? Why?
More than likely. They're a nice treat to have available for the odd occasion and easy to pop into a bag as an emergency snack but I don't think I'd make a habit out of giving them to my daughter more than say, once a week.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Soreen Lunchbox Loaves to a friend or family member?
Yes, I think so.

My dd (9) regularly has a Soreen banana loaf in her lunch box. She loves them, but doesn't like the malt ones. I never give chocolate or other biscuits for lunch, but am happy to give her these. I'd recommend them to other parents.
