We have been asked by the team at Napolina, the UK’s favourite Italian cooking brand, to find 250 UK MNers with children at home to try a selection of their latest range and to share feedback on MN.

Napolina say “we are excited to launch a new range of No Added Sugar pasta sauces to complement our existing range of over 130 products including pasta, sauces, canned tomatoes, olive oil, pulses, pizzeria and balsamic vinegar. The sauces enable tasty and convenient meals to be created, whilst reducing ‘added sugar’ intake. Flavours are centred around Italian family classic meals and have been developed to appeal to parents and children alike.

All sauces have a smooth texture and are available in seven flavour variants:

~ Bolognese pasta sauce
~ Pasta sauce for Macaroni Cheese
~ Pasta sauce for Meatballs
~ Creamy Cheese and Tomato pasta sauce
~ Red Lasagne pasta sauce
~ White Lasagne pasta sauce
~ Tomato with Hidden Veg pasta sauce

Available in a 480g/500g jar for families of four or more (RRP £1.69), the sauces are perfect for creating Italian inspired family favourites on busy weekdays or leisurely weekends alike”.

Selected testers will be sent 4 jars each (variety of flavours) and asked to try them with their recipes / dishes at home over a week and then asked to share their feedback on a thread on MN and by completing a short feedback survey. They will also be sent a pack of pasta. For a list of ingredients, please see: here

NB the survey and feedback will need to be completed by 7 March latest – products will be sent out w/c 22 Feb. Please only apply if you’re around during this time and able to test 4 jars of sauce and share feedback then.

Selected testers who add feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £300 John Lewis voucher.

If you’d like to take part, please add your details here and we will be in touch with those selected soon.

Thanks and good luck

Completed the screening survey - family of pasta lovers here who can often be found tucking into a pasta bake, lasgane or bolognase. I totally admit that I do sometimes use jar sauces fo convenience and it would be great to try a range with less sugar in them to see how they compare to our usual brands.

Signed up! Love pasta, could never do a no-carb diet. Favourite meal is carbonara! There is a fabulous street cafe near Trafalgar Square that sells the best pasta and pizza I've ever had!

Tonkatol · 18/02/2016 16:06

Thanks for selecting us.

Got our sauces this morning, what a nice surprise, thanks! I've told the DC that we're pasta sauce testers and DS is really getting into it.

After DS watched Masterchef, he critiqued our meals in the style of Masterchef for weeks after, I can see the same happening here. Grin

rupert23 · 20/02/2016 15:51

confusedofengland · 20/02/2016 16:46

Aw, doesn't look like we've been chosen. Gutted Sad

Well done to the lucky ones, enjoy!

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit · 20/02/2016 19:41

OK, here's the verdict on the first one.

We had the Macaroni Cheese.

Overall, tastes nice but tiny portions! Not sure in whose world 1.5 litres of pasta is for 4 people! Four DC, yes.

More detail ...

DD (nearly 3) helped me prepare it, which she enjoyed :)

The instructions said to fill the jar with 160ml water and 160ml water, but the jar us nearly 500ml big. So which is it? Fill the jar, or measure 160ml of each? I went for 160ml each.
It would be really helpful to have a mark on the jar / label for 160ml & 320ml so you could use the jar to measure.

DS (age 7) said "9 out of 10. I think it was very nice. It looked nice and it tasted lovely. The one thing I don't like is the sauce is a bit over-cheesed" (probably all the cheese I put in though!)

DD actually ate some and didn't ask for ketchup, which was a good sign!

DP says

"It's OK!" Seeing as he's a foodie who usually cooks from scratch, that's high praise!

He says he was expecting it to be bland but was pleasantly surprised, it actually had taste. It was a bit salty for him, but he puts zero salt in most food and says it could have been our own mature cheese we added that was salty anyway. His biggest issue is portions. He says no Italians or Americans he knows would make such a small portion of Macaroni cheese!
Not as good as home-made but a good cupboard stand-by.

I liked it, easy to use, would keep in the cupboard for dinners for the DC, but can't see me using for the whole family as too small! Maybe if the price was right for a larger jar.

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit · 20/02/2016 19:42

(Actually, less than 1.5 litres. That was the size of the dish.)

FeelingSmurfy · 22/02/2016 16:44

Ooo, just had an email to say we are testing this Smile can't wait!

kazlau · 23/02/2016 16:12
