It's come out well. We were going to do ages and then realised the teenager would get about twice as many pieces as the little ones Grin

We had such a lovely afternoon making this. My DS designed his cake, my wonderful DM found a rocket cake tin and here are the results. We used a basic Delia madeira recipe and covered in buttercream icing, Cadbury buttons and silver balls. Recipe: 225g plain flour
Pinch of salt
2 level tsp baking powder
175g spreadable butter
2 large eggs
110g golden caster sugar
Zest 1lemon
2-3 tbsp milk
Oven 170

Sift flour, salt and bkg powder into a bowl, add eggs, butter, sugar and grated zest. Combine until smooth. Add milk, spoon into cake tin and bake for 1 hour. Leave to cool before icing.

Thanks Mumsnet and Cadbury for a wonderful 3 generational afternoon!

We made chocolate cheesecake and mini cheesecakes.

For the base:
250g chocolate digestive biscuits
125g melted butter

Blitz the biscuits in a food processor until a fine crumb (or put in a food bag and bash with a rolling pin) then add the melted butter. Mix until the biscuits are coated in the butter then press firmly into the tin. Put in the fridge for an hour before adding the topping.

For the filling:
One packet Cadbury mixed buttons, melted
600g soft cream cheese
300ml double cream
100g icing sugar

Mix all the ingredients together until all combined and add onto the biscuit base. Smooth with a spoon and decorate with more Cadbury mixed buttons. Chill overnight in the fridge.

We made one large cheesecake and 12 small ones from the same recipe, but you could just use it all in the one cake.

We went for a simple yet tasty recipe that the kids got to help make themselves... We made butterfly and ladybird shortbread -

Recipe was
150 grams plain flour
100 grams margarine
50 grams caster sugar

Preheat oven 160C, Gas mark 6.
Cream together the butter and sugar in a bowl. Gradually mix in the flour. Using your hands knead the mix together into a smooth ball.
Roll out to about 1/2 cm thick. Cut out your shapes and place on baking tray.
Bake for 10-15min
Leave to cool and set aside and begin making your icing , we added food dye to make the ladybird colour and help stick the chocolate buttons. We also melted some of the chocolate buttons to make the ladybirds face.

Once cooled decorate with icing and buttons!!

Addition to domino cake - our mixed button sandwich wedge! Created with the domed top of our original square cake which I needed to cut off to make the flat domino pieces. It was a good use of the left-over icing and we got to use both colours of the buttons on this one.

Loving all the ideas everyone has - storing them up for future use.

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much Cadburys for sending us the mixed buttons. We had a great time using (and eating!) them.

We made chocolate brownie and while it was still warm we made a panda face on top with the buttons. However, we couldn't decide if it looked more like a panda, dog or teddy bear!! My DD and DS loved making it and it tasted great - the buttons added extra naughtiness! It goes well with homemade cookie dough ice cream too.

Here's the recipe:
100g butter - melted
100g dark chocolate - melted
75g white chocolate - melted
3 eggs
2 egg whites
100g brown sugar
3tbsp wholemeal flour
50g cocoa
1/2 tsp bicarb of soda

Mix altogether and bake at 180C for about 20mins. Place buttons on top once out of the oven.

Thanks Mumsnet and Cadburys, we really appreciate you choosing us!

We went with a timely theme for my children's obsession... Rugby! If you squint carefully you should hopefully be able to read '6 nations'.

We started with a basic cheesecake and chucked in a healthy handful of the white chocolate buttons from one packet. Straws for the rugby posts.

Cheesecake recipe:
250g crushed biscuits. We went with cadbury's dairy milk biscuits and the kids bashed them with a rolling pin
100g butter
Usually do a vanilla pod but we used a dash of vanilla essence
600g soft cheese
100g icing sugar
284ml cream
Buttons!

Mix melted butter with biscuits and spread on the base of your tin. Chill in the fridge for an hour.

Mix the rest of the ingredients apart from the cream, then add the cream. Scatter in as many buttons as you fancy so you get some surprise chunks of chop late in every bite.

Pour on to the chilled base and put it back in the fridge overnight.

We decorated as you can see!

White chocolate mousse

Ingredients
Cadbury Chocolate Button mix
300ml Double Cream

1.Seperate the white and milk chocolate.

2.In a small saucepan, heat ¾ cup of the cream on medium heat. The cream should get hot and slightly bubbly on the edges, but do not bring to a boil.

3.Turn off the heat and add the White chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is melted and the cream and chocolate are completely combined. Set aside and allow to cool to room temperature.

4.With an electric mixer using the whisk attachment, beat the other ¾ cup cream on high until soft peaks form. Once the chocolate mixture is cool, fold it into the whipped cream using the paddle attachment.

5.Serve cold or frozen topped with milk chocolate buttons and strawberries. Enjoy!

We decided to make our own Cadbury Pots of Joy, with a white chocolate mousse at the bottom, and milk chocolate at the top. We decorated our own with the mixed buttons so they were all unique!

Recipe was 2 lg eggs and 125g melted choc and for each colour.

Separate eggs. Melt choc. Whisk yolks until pale and creamy then whisk in choc. Beat whites until stiff peaks. Fold into choc mixture. Layer into glass dishes and set for about an hour in the fridge. Decorate with buttons.

DS has another idea he wants to try and we still have one bag left so may do that one tomorrow!

My four ur old and myself made a hedgehog at his request. Recipe was 100 of sugar, butter, and flour, 25g of cocoa powder, 2 eggs, and some vanilla essence. Mix together and split between two pans. Bake for 20 mins 180c. When cooled cut both in half. Sandwich two halves together to make the body. Cut he other into six triangles and adapt to make head. Cover with chocolate butter cream then decorate with the buttons.
These buttons are ideal when you have two that like milk chic and two that like white although it proves to cause issues for the hedgehog as it looked like he may end up bare

Thanks for selecting us for this trial. We decided to make a chocolate tiffin.

Recipe as below

Ingredients
250g digestive biscuits
150g raisins or other dried fruit
100g butter
25g brown sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
4 tablespoons golden syrup
225g milk chocolate

Crush the digestive biscuits. Mix in a bowl with the raisins.
Melt the butter together with the cocoa powder and golden syrup. Combine with the biscuit mixture.
Press the mixture into a 20cm oiled tin - leave to cool.
Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pan of water. Spread this over the mixture.
Cool and enjoy!

The idea was that my daughter (aged 5) and son (aged 1) would then decorate the tiffin with the buttons. My daughter did this but unfortunately my son just ate the buttons instead.

Firstly thanks for choosing us. Hopefully this posts this time.
Confession time. I didn't think we would be chose, and I never bake.

So, made a biscuit - flour, butter, milk, sugar, vanilla essence.. Don't know the measurements, I broke my scales years ago and never replaced, because well we never bake.

Wrapped the mix around the buttons and chucked some broken buttons on top. Took forever to bake, but actually surprised they cooked haha. Wanted the chocolate to melt in the middle it didn't, not sure why, but hey they were edible.

We made a chocolate polka surprise layer cake. The kids were desperate to try out a new cake pop maker so this is what we came up with, we had lots of fun baking it!

For the cake pops

Ingredients:
3⁄4 cup plain flour
1⁄2 cup caster sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1⁄2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1⁄4 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1⁄4 cup buttermilk
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 egg
1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla paste
1⁄4 cup Coffee (I used espresso)

  1. Combine dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg and vanilla. Fold together until smooth.
  2. Add coffee and continue mixing until coffee is evenly incorporated into mixture.
3.lightly brush cake pop mould with vegetable oil.
  1. Fill the moulds so the batter completely fills the bottom half.
  2. Bake at 180c for 10 or so minutes or until a toothpick inserted into a cake pop comes out clean.
  3. Allow to cool and then freeze to prevent overbaking later.

For the vanilla cake (recipe given for one 6 inch round cake, I repeated this three times)

125g pack unsalted butter, softened, plus extra for greasing
125g caster sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla paste
3 medium eggs mixed together
40g plain flour
Heaped Tablespoon Greek yogurt
125g self-raising flour
1.5 tbsp semi-skimmed milk

1.Heat oven to 160C.
2.Grease a round, deep 6 inch tin, then line the base and sides with non-stick baking paper.
3.Using a Mixer, beat the butter, sugar, vanilla together until pale and fluffy, then pour in the eggs, slowly. If it starts to curdle beat in a tbsp of flour from your allowance. Mix in yogurt.
4.fold the flours into the mixture, followed by the milk.

  1. Spread a thin layer of cake batter over the base of the tin followed by five cake pops (see pic) then spoon the rest of the mixture evenly over the top.
  2. Bake for approx 45 mins or until brown and a skewer inserted in the cake comes out clean.
  3. Leave to cool on wire rack, repeat if you want a tall cake.

For the buttercream

250g butter
500g icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla paste
Milk until the right consistency

  1. Beat butter in mixer until really soft and pale.
  2. Add sieved icing sugar. Mix by hand to begin with to avoid icing sugar clouds then finish in the mixer.
  3. Beat in vanilla paste and enough milk to leave it fluffy and soft.

For the milk chocolate ganache

600g milk chocolate
500g double cream

  1. Heat the cream in a pan over a medium heat until steaming but not boiling.
  2. While the pan is heating chop the chocolate fairly finely.
  3. Take the pan off the heat, mix the chocolate into the cream and stir until smooth.
  4. Leave overnight to firm up, if still too soft when completely cold put in the fridge for a while.

Assembly

  1. Trim the very top of one cake off with a bread knife and stick it to a cake stand, trimmed side up.
  2. Spread/pipe an even layer of buttercream onto the bottom layer.
  3. Trim the top and bottom couple of mm from another cake, place it on the bottom layer, top with buttercream.
  4. Trim the very bottom from the last cake, place on top.
  5. Spread a very thin coat of buttercream over the entire cake, place cake in fridge for 10 minutes to firm up.
  6. Cover the cake in ganache, to make it easier use a jug of boiling water to heat up a palate knife before drying then using it to smooth out the ganache.
  7. Decorate with milk and white chocolate buttons using any leftover to decorate the cake stand.
  8. Enjoy!!

Loved these - and perfectly suited to my sons, as one wanted the white chocolate buttons and the other wanted the milk chocolate ones. Can see these becoming a family favourite on Sweet Treat Friday!

We tried to make a chocolate hedgehog, and thought I would need two lots of chocolate cakes, but instead only needed one, so the boys decorated the other cake in their own personal style.

Recipe for Chocolate Microwave Cake:

100g self raising flour
100g soft margerine or butter
100g caster sugar
25g cocoa powder
2 eggs plus 3 tablespoons milk
pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla essence

Method
Line a microwave safe bowl with greaseproof paper.
Sieve the flour, salt and cocoa powder together into large bowl.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well until light and fluffy.
Pour mixture into the bowl, and place in microwave on an upturned plate.
Cook on HIGH for 6 minutes.
Leave to cool in bowl for 5 minutes before turning out onto rack.

Once cool, slice the cake and fill with chocolate butter cream. Slice two sides off the cake and trim the middle long piece which will form the body. Place the two trimmed off cake sides on their ends on top of the long peice to form the hump of the hedgehog.

Smother in chocolate butter cream, and create the prickles on the hedgehog by placing the chocolate buttons on their sides. I used the white ones for his nose and eyes too.

Really yummy and quite sickly, and was eaten within two days!

Thank you for choosing us to try out the new mixed buttons. :)
Crepes are always a favourite with everyone in our house, so we decided to make banana and chocolate button crepes.

Ingredients

125g plain flour, sifted
2 eggs, beaten
200ml milk
Pinch of salt
2 bananas, mashed
Cadbury's mixed buttons
Butter for cooking

Method

  1. Sift the flour and salt in to a bowl and then tip in the eggs. Whisk the eggs with the flour and then put in the milk gradually, as you mix, until you have a smooth batter.
  2. Mix in the mashed bananas.
  3. Lightly grease the crepe maker or frying pan with some butter
  4. Cook the crepe for approximately 60 to 90 seconds on one side then flip over.
  5. Add the chocolate buttons to the top of the crepe and cook for about 60 seconds. The chocolate buttons will melt on to the top of the crepe.

Best eaten warm - this is a delicious, quick and easy recipe for an after school snack. My children want more today!! Yum yum!! :)

Since Kraft took over Cadburys the 'chocolate' tastes like shit so you can shove all your buttons and and the rest of it where the sun don't shine.
