No photos sadly (they got snaffled before I managed to take any!). We made banana muffins with mixed chocolate button chips. They were absolutely delicious and the white and dark chocolate melted into the muffin - if you leave the buttons big enough it's like having big chocolate chips in there!

2 mashed bananas
2 eggs
100g butter softened
175g caster sugar
225g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp milk
1 pack mixed chocolate buttons, roughly chopped

Mix all ingredients together until they are smooth before folding In buttons

Spoon into muffin cases and bake at 180 / 160 fan for about 25 mins

We made chewy chocolate button cookies...I originally had grand plans of a showstopper...my little girl had other plans and took over! :D

150g plain flour
100g butter or margarine
100g sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
handful of chocolate buttons for the dough...last minute decision for the 6 year old chef!

Cream together the butter, sugar and syrup, add the buttons and flour and combine, we baked at gas 5 for around 12 minutes, they do spread quite a bit so you need plenty of room between cookies :) she added the chocolate buttons in various designs on top of the cookies then we put in the oven again just so they melted onto them a little bit.

My daughter loved every second of having full creative control and so many buttons to use (and eat!) thank you very much for choosing us to be involved!!!!! The chocolate was delicious...I even liked the white buttons despite never being a white chocolate fan :) my daughter said it's AMAZING having both colours of chocolate in the same bag. We will definitely be keeping an eye out for them in shops. thumbs up all round in this house :)

Luca's treasure chest cake

By Luca age 6 and a half (with a little help from mum)

Ingredients
225g butter
225g caster sugar
225g self raising flour
4 eggs
3 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp cocoa
One bag of cadburys mixed buttons
One box of each cadburys White and milk chocolate fingers
One tub of chocolate ganache
Heat oven to 180C/gas 160C/gas 4. Grease a loaf tin If you want to make life easy, simply put all the ingredients (except the cocoa powder) into a food processor and whizz for 1-2 mins until smooth. If you prefer to mix by hand, beat the butter and sugar together, then add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Fold through the flour, milk and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
Divide the mixture between 2 bowls. Stir the cocoa powder into the mixture in one of the bowls. Take 2 spoons and use them to dollop the chocolate and vanilla cake mixes into the tin alternately. When all the mixture has been used up (and if young kids are doing this, you’ll need to ensure the base of the tin is fairly evenly covered), tap the bottom on your work surface to ensure that there aren’t any air bubbles. Take a skewer and swirl it around the mixture in the tin a few times to create a marbled effect.
Bake the cake for 45-55 mins until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Turn out onto a cooling rack and leave to cool. Once cool, smother with the chocolate ganache and decorate with the buttons and fingers.
Put the kettle on, sit back and enjoy!!!

Thanks for choosing us!

We made an Othello board cake Grin. I say "we" ... OH is the baker in our house - he always makes DD's birthday cake and likes to try a new technique each year ... Last year was sugar craft, this year - colouring fondant icing Grin His cakes always taste amazing! So he was in charge.

Recipe:
400g self raising flour
400g butter
400g caster sugar
8 eggs
3/4 capful of vanilla essence

Method:
Cream butter and sugar.
Whisk in flour.
Fold in flour and vanilla essence.

We baked in a roasting tin as all our cake tins are round.

We stuck the buttons together with water icing and coloured fondant icing with gel colours but obviously needed lots more gel as the colours weren't very vibrant. Sad. But at 8pm on a Saturday, we made do!

We made the same cookies as a few others on the thread - my 7yo and 4yo did it almost entirely by themselves, I only got involved to put the tray into and out of the oven. As the picture shows the cookies were not beautiful, but the kids had great fun and the cookies were delicious (especially warm from the oven) and the mixed buttons were really tasty.

Recipe
150g soft brown sugar
150g butter
1 egg
dash of vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking power
300g flour
2x bags mixed buttons (a few may have got liberated along the way...)

Our "in progress" photos ... Not sure where they disappeared to!

Also, DD said the buttons were delicious.

Of all the time for my oven to properly be acting up, or something wasn't right anyway! I had to rescue it as it wasn't cooking in the middle. That's why the middle is missing. At least the cake can be cut into slices easily!

I used this recipe..www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chocolate_cake_48307

And this recipe for the icing...www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/fairycakes_83889

Don't feel right to paste it as my own...I am no recipe maker!

We all had fun.

We made chocolate and banana cake, using the buttons instead of chocolate chips. It went down a bomb with the whole family (as did the second bag of buttons, or it would have been decorated with those! - the children were too quick!!)

Recipe
2 large ripe bananas
1/2tsp vanilla flavouring
175g butter
225g s-r flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
3 eggs
chocolate chips

Makes 2 x 8 inch cakes

Preheat oven to 170C

Peel and mash bananas, and mix with vanilla flavouring and eggs

Gently heat butter and sugar in a pan until dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in flour and baking powder.

Beat in egg and banana mix.

Cool slightly and add chocolate

Cook for approx 35 mins

Eat!!

I wasn't able to properly complete this as my Dad passed away just a couple of weeks ago Sad
However, I was able to make a quick cake for DSs birthday Smile
I made a chocolate piñata cake filled with the mixed buttons.
I made 4 two egg sponges, replacing 2 tbsp flour with cocoa powder.
I cut a square out of the middle two sponges, added a small red sponge wall and filled it with the sweets (smarties too).
This picture will out me as its on my FB as well.

SherbertDip · 29/02/2016 17:07

We made flower buns from our buttons ( think flower made from the two kinds of buttons on top of the bun) I haven't Been able to attach a photo for some reason.

We made standard sponge recipe
100g of butter,sugar and flour
2 eggs

Cream butter and sugar
Mix in egg one at a time and a little flour
Fold in rest of flour

Cook for around 15 mins at 200 degrees Celsius

mum2tots · 29/02/2016 17:21

We loved the mixed buttons, mine love milk and white chocolate buttons so having both in a bag was fab! We just made some simple sponge cakes and then melted the milk chocolate buttons and spread it over the top and added a white chocolate button on the top.

100g butter, softened
100g self raising flour
100g caster sugar
2 eggs

Preheat oven gas mark 4/180'C/170'C fan
Whisk all the ingredients until creamy and spoon into a bun tin or bun cases - this recipe should make 12
Cook for about 10-15 minutes.

Simple but tasty

Wow some of the recipes look amazing, I am the worst baker ever so we made chocolate crispy cakes which my children unfortunately devoured before I remembered to take a pic, I personally thought the buttons weren't up to the usual standard, they tasted a bit cheap but the kids loved them

vlcrhopkins · 01/03/2016 11:11

I know this comment is late, but having already commented, this is extra.

Just made another batch of "mummy buns" I only use a simple recipe.
100g butter
100g caster sugar
2 medium eggs
100g self raising flour

When added to bun cases, I added in the buttons, one daughter doesn't like white chocolate, so didn't add any to hers.

We received the buttons and kids were excited to eat them never mind for cooking. We usually make chocolate cake so thought these would be great to decorate the cake once made.
We did cheat a little by using ready mixed cake mix and had to only add 120ml vegetable oil, 230ml water, 3 medium eggs.
We started the oven and mixed all the ingredients in the bowl once all smooth we transferred to baking trays i had greased while the kids mixed the ingredients. Baked in the oven for 35 minutes.
Once done we transferred to the plate and used chocolate fudge icing to cover the chocolate cake. kids decorated with the buttons.
They really enjoyed decorating the cake and lots of buttons did go 'missing' while decorating.
All in all they had lots of fun eating and decorating using the buttons.

The camera on my phone isn't working so I can't include a photo I'm afraid. My 8 year old DS was keen to get involved and between us we decided to make a white chocolate cheesecake to celebrate Valentine's Day.

White Chocolate Cheesecake

Ingredients:

150g crushed digestive biscuits
40g melted butter
All the white chocolate Buttons from both packets or 200g white chocolate
300g original Philadelphia cream cheese
150ml double cream

Prep: 15min

Extra time: 3hr

Method:

Mix the crushed digestive biscuits and the melted butter. Press into the base of a round tin (springform tin is better)

Melt the chocolate buttons / pieces in a bowl over a pan of boiling water.

Then whisk the Philadelphia and double cream together, then add the melted chocolate and whisk until mixed.

Pour mixture on top of the biscuit base.

Chill for at least 3 hours or overnight before serving.

We used the milk chocolate buttons to make a heart shape on top of the cheesecake.

LoveAGoodRummage · 02/03/2016 12:30

We made cookies too Blush

125g butter
100g light brown soft sugar
125g caster sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract
225g self-raising flour
½ tsp salt
Half a bag of mixed chocolate buttons (or more if your four year old child pours them in!)

Preheat the oven to 180°C, gas mark 4.
Cream butter and sugars, once creamed, combine in the egg and vanilla.
Sift in the flour and salt, then the chocolate buttons.

Roll into balls of a size of your own choosing, then place onto grease proof paper on a baking tray. Bake for between 10 and 12 minutes or until golden around the edges (or longer than that if you made them as large as I did.)

Leave to cool for a minute or so before transferring onto a rack.

Wowsers...some great cakes on here! There was a delay in ours being delivered so we still haven't had the chance to bake anything but, with Mothers Day this Sunday we will get our pinnies out and get baking! In the meantime our 1 year old is very much enjoying them as an after dinner treat! X

Rhumba · 03/03/2016 21:40

We made yummy cookies. Not the most inspired decorations but unfortunately we then hit lent and kids gave up cakes and biscuits so this is as far as we got. Kids enjoyed discussing what they would have used them for otherwise.

I had such grand plans to make a fantastic cake using cadburys mixed chocolate buttons. Alas it wasn't to be.

DH ate one bag when I was putting the DC's to bed one night. Then most of the other bag was scoffed by 5yo DS one morning when I was still upstairs. He has obviously learnt to be a chocolate thief from his father!

So with the few leftovers I let the DC's decorate some pancakes.
