Miele TMB 640 WP Tumble Dryer Feedback Thread NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 05/10/2015 10:05

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are testing out the Miele TMB 640 WP tumble dryer.

Here’s what Miele say: "This sleek new white tumble dryer from Miele takes gentle care of your clothes using advanced laundry care technology. The PerfectDry system automatically detects mineral content and moisture in your clothes and adjusts the drying time accordingly, giving great results every time. Even better, you can add fragrance to your laundry using a FragranceDos capsule. The result: pleasantly fresh clothes with a natural fragrance that lasts up to four weeks.”

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test out your tumble dryer.

So, for your first impressions, Miele would love to know:

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • So far, what do you think of: the drying results, sound levels and ease of use?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Miele on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Ok I have done a video!!! I don't think I have a career in YouTube blogging on the horizon tbh. It was harder than most people make it look!! But I talked about the tumble and think I covered most of the points requested.

MNHQ - I have sent by wetransfer, if it's not enough/right/what you are looking for, can you email me and I can do another one!

A PP posted a link to the video requirements, did you get the email one hello?

I did a video of unloading and then loading the machine, selecting a programme and talking about how I found the performance etc.

  • How have you found the Miele tumble dryer overall?

Overall it's been fantastic and really can't complain about the drying. You put wet stuff in and it comes out dry! Perfect. The sensor setting is very clever and it seems to be continually assessing the load, rather than just once at the start of the programme. The machine itself is beautiful and looks great in the kitchen. I love that it has a glass door rather than a solid one like most tumble driers. It is quiet and that makes a huge difference, it sits and runs well without disturbing anyone in the kitchen. The drum is huge and it's coping well with the laundry our family of 5 generates.

  • Is there anything in particular about the Miele tumble dryer which impressed you?

This might sound strange but the buzzer noise is very appealing! You can set the machine to alert you to the end of the cycle and it chirps a rather pleasant little buzzer noise rather than anything loud and offensive. Winning.

Also I don't seem to have to empty the water tank as often as I did with my old machine. I'm not really sure why that would be but it's a bonus.

  • What did you think of FragranceDos feature?

It is fiddly to put in and the capsule leaked all over my hands. That was not great. I have one child with eczema so I have only been setting the fragrance pod to its half setting (just in case it irritated her skin) and on half setting the smell is not really that noticeable. I think you need it set on full to really notice the fragerence in your clothes. I am unlikely to purchase another capsule when this one runs out to be honest, it hasn't wowed me enough to buy more.

  • Would you recommend the Miele tumble dryer to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would. I think the high price tag mostly reflects how energy efficient it is and the associated low yearly running costs. I am also hoping that high price tag means it's built to last. Miele certainly do have a reputation for well built appliances. So the true test will be how it's running in a couple of years.

It dries well and the sensor setting is brilliant to ensure you don't over dry anything. It's very clever and again looks brilliant.

  • tumble dryer overall

Overall, I like it. It's good to look at and seems well built. It can dry a huge amount which speeds up the laundry stockpile.

  • anything in particular impressed you most

I love the huge drum. Makes drying bulky loads so much easier. I also love that it continuously changes the drying time as the dry progresses.

The fragrance dos

Fiddly to put in and a bit leaky. However the smell s lovely and not overpowering.

  • woud you recommend to family and friends

I think I probably would. It is expensive but it does appear to be more economical to run and the speed of drying is impressive. I think this is a question that can only be answered after a more prolonged period of use.

How have you found the Miele tumble dryer overall?
I have loved it so far. It's quick and easy to use and can cope with a large load of clothes easily and efficiently.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele tumble dryer which impressed you?
I particularly love the look and design of the dryer. It is very aesthetically pleasing and I think the huge door and futuristic light feature is fantastic. The sensor is great as well. The size of the drum is also a big plus point with all the washing we do.

What did you think of FragranceDos feature?
I too found this a little fiddly and it did leak on my hands. It does smell lovely but I'm not sure I will be purchasing another one.

Would you recommend the Miele tumble dryer to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Oh yes. it is definitely worth paying extra for. Miele is synonymous with high quality and building appliances that last. This is certainly the case with the dryer. Clothes dry quickly, efficiently and quietly. It's a very clever machine and I'd recommend it to anyone.

This is Mr BrendaandEddie with the official update. Apologies for the professional/functional answers. I'll leave the comedy to the experts.

How have you found the Miele tumble dryer overall?
EXCELLENT. We had a Samsung condenser before that couldn't dry cottons. The Miele does and it hasn't shrunk anything yet. The "Dry" and "Very Dry" settings are ideal for home use. Very quiet, very easy to use and the filter is simple to clean. I've switched the door opening to the other side for ease of access (Not all manufacturers offer this). This only took 5 minutes. I've also plumbed it directly into the sink outlet next to the washing machine so NO condenser tray emptying! (This was a nirvana moment).

Is there anything in particular about the Miele tumble dryer which impressed you?
It looks like a tumble dryer which is a plus. (Some other models look like space ships). Does what it's supposed to do with a range of features which I can understand without a manual. Fast and quiet. Kids haven't broken it yet so must be sturdy.

What did you think of FragranceDos feature?
Nice gimmick. It works well but I won't be using it as I'm a bloke and don't like air fresheners. The smell does leak into the room. (OK if you like the odour of freshly cleaned school toilets).

Would you recommend the Miele tumble dryer to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
YES. If you're going to pay for a top end condenser dryer this is the dogs'. Fast, quiet, easy to use and can cope with all that our horde have thrown at it.

I can't seem to send my video, not sure what i'm doing wrong Confused

Overall - it's simple to use, effective and attractive. My clothes are dry and smell lovely and the drum is large enough that clothes aren't squashed together creasing further. The only issue I have had is still with bedding which ties itself in knots!

Impressed by - I would have to say both the ability to dry items exactly right, especially towels, and the fact it is so quiet.

Fragrance capsule - fantastic idea although it was difficult to begin with. I would like to order some different scents and try the range before deciding whether I will use it going forward.

Recommend - yes I would. It is more expensive than many others but it is also more effective. The only problem is I think I need a matching washing machine now! Grin

  • How have you found the Miele tumble dryer overall?

Overall it has been great. Laundry dries much quicker than my old machine. There have been times when it's not been quite dry but I just put the warm air cycle on for a few minutes and it's perfectly dry.
  • Is there anything in particular about the Miele tumble dryer which impressed you?

The large drum size is great especially for bedding and towels.
  • What did you think of FragranceDos feature?

I like it - the laundry smells good after use. Not sure I'd buy again though as I already use softener to fragrance my laundry.
  • Would you recommend the Miele tumble dryer to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would recommend the Miele tumble drier although it is quite pricey. However, it is a quality product with great features and energy efficient.

The weather out side is frightful, my tumble dryers so delightful.

Its lashing with rain, after a wet weekend, its the UK its approaching winter I get it. Rather than having a washing backlog particularly of sheets and towels I'm on top of it all.

Overall, as many had previously told me, I don't know how I lived without one.

Based on my historic experience of tumble dryers I love the really big easy access drum. I love that I can just empty a full big load of washing, bung it all in the dryer, go about my day and just have a properly dry load of non static clothes often ready to fold and put straight away. We've washed and dryed a few puffy winter coats including my husbands very special to him 66 North down jacket. Its come out like new.

Last time I washed a down jacket of his it took several weeks to dry properly and I had to spend hours shaking it and manually pulling the down around to fluff it.

The one feature that has really impressed and slightly repulsed me is the fine filter. We are a pet household and our little Cavalier King Charles spaniel has been having a bit of a moult. A few of my jumper tunics/ dresses tend to attract her fine white hairs something i usually deal with using a lint roller. The tumble dryer somehow manages to filter any left after the wash. The fluff in the filter after each wash is amazing. I expected it off the towels but every wash and it gets emptied (an easy process). Things just come out the dryer looking that bit cleaner.

Fragrance dos is a nice to have feature. I have almost used the first pod. I found it became slightly sticky around the pod attracting fluff. This may have happened on insertion as I wiped the area and its not recurred. I would probably use it again from time to time but not necessarily have a pod in all the time.

I would, and have, recommended the Miele tumble dryer to friends. Primarily because of the big drum but also because its so quiet, it is so simple and it completely does the job its intended too. I'm quite thrifty with new purchases but feel in this instance the extra cost of Miele over a standard dryer is worth the expense because of the energy saving, time saving from a big drum, time saving because it actually drys the contents without having to do a 1 hour air before you put things away.

How have you found the Miele tumble dryer overall?

I have been really impressed by it. I really like the big drum, it is super quiet and it dries clothes so much better than any other dryer I have used. It is very intuitive to use and is also a lot quicker than the initial timer settings would lead you to believe. For best results it is better to not overfill it.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele tumble dryer which impressed you?
The clothes dried by this drier are much less creased and many things don't need ironing. I just take them straight out and hang them up. Agree that the filter is brilliant. We have dogs and horses and the clothes seem to come out minus the dog fluff or horse hair. It did a great job on my down jackets with the addition of a few dryer balls.

What did you think of FragranceDos feature?
It is a nice idea, but I don't like fragranced washing so would not choose to use this.

Would you recommend the Miele tumble dryer to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have recommended it already. I have a Miele washing machine which is about 8 years old and still going strong, so even though they seem expensive I think Miele offer good value in the long run.

I've been very pleased with it in general. The machine is very quiet. The control panel is clear and easy to use. I've mainly used the quicker cotton programme and only twice I think have things come out not quite dry. I did fall foul of what another poster said with duvet covers in that it got all tangled up and other things stuck inside (hence not dry) but I'm assuming that's s common problem of driers rather than specific to this one. I like the quick 20 minute warning option too, have used that a couple of times to finish things off. I'm not certain that the machine cuts down on creasing particularly but that might be because I leave things in a bit too long after the cycle ends.

I really like the lighting up drum as I said last time round.

I haven't used the Fragrance Dos as I often use fabric conditioner so I didn't want a different scent competing. However I think I might give it a go out if curiosity.

I definitely would recommend the machine, but with the caveat that I don't have much to compare it too and that they would have to be richer friends than I currently possess!
