1) How old are the DCs who took part in this test?
2 and 4
2) Do you find it a challenge to get your DCs to eat fruit and veg/get their five a day?
Not particularly. Both will eat lots of certain fruits and vegetables that are their favourites. My 2 year old will try pretty much any fruit, my 4 year old is better at trying new vegetables. So it varies.
3) What did your DCs think of BEAR Paws (taste, packaging, concept)? What did they like or dislike about them?
They both loved the packaging and so do I, it's really bold and bright and very well designed I think. They also enjoyed the chart (4 year old in particular loves any kind of chart/stickers etc). They loved the look of the paws and the footprints. I thought the paws were a little thin and fiddly to pick up, but I guess they're designed for little fingers.
As a concept I think they are good. Yes they have a lot of natural sugar in them, but I wouldn't be giving them to my DC every day, nor as a replacement for a piece of fruit or other less sugary snack. They would be one of a range of options. I still think natural sugars are preferable to giving DC actual sweets for example. I know a few mums who don't give raisins/dried fruit to their DC as they are "so bad for their teeth" and yet they do let them have sweets and drink squash, which makes no sense to me.
What I would think was even better was if Bear did a range of paws that are a mix of fruit/vegetable, so orange and carrot for example (no idea if those two flavours would mix but you get the idea). This would lower the sugar content and make them much more appealing to me, as on the whole my DCs are happier to eat fruit than vegetables so the latter is what I'm keener on working into their diet wherever I can.
My 2 year old loved the taste and happily wolfed down all the flavours, my 4 year old found them a bit too sweet. She did try one of each of the flavours but didn't want to eat any more. She's not keen on sticky/sweet things so that might be why. So I ate her share :-)
4) Do you think this snack was a suitable size for your child/ren? If so why, if not, why not?
A bag was too big for my 2 year old but would've been just right for my 4 year old (if she'd eaten them) so they're probably about right.
5) Would you buy BEAR Paws again?
Yes I would for DD2 (subject to the price being sensible, I'm not sure how much their rrp is). I wouldn't give them to my DC daily by any means, but they'd be handy to have in the cupboard for times when you need to grab a quick/non-messy snack to keep my handbag or to eat in the car. But only for DD2 as DD1 wasn't keen.
6) Would you recommend BEAR Paws to friends and family?
If it came up in conversation then yes I probably would.
