We have been asked by the folks at Puffin books to find 250 UK Mumsnetters with a child aged 5 to 10 to have a listen to an audiobook and to share your thoughts and reviews on MN.

Puffin say “we’re delighted to invite you to join our Summer AudioBook Club. Audiobooks are a brilliant way to get children and their parents to experience the thrill, laughter and excitement of stories. There is no better time for audiobooks than the school holidays when there is lots of free time, long journeys and plenty of curious minds to entertain. MP3 players, smartphones and tablets mean that these days you can take audiobooks anywhere you and your kids go. So Puffin have chosen a selection of audiobooks that your children can enjoy on their own or to keep the whole family enthralled. Stories designed to make the family laugh out loud and to transport you to magical places, all brought to life with brilliant performances by incredible story tellers. As it’s a book club we’d love you to listen to the audiobooks and tell us what you think on the Mumsnet feedback threads”.

To take part you can pick whether you'd like to receive an MP3 download link or a promotional CD depending on what device you would prefer to listen on.

You can pick the audiobook you'd like to receive: - these are categorised into ‘Laugh Out Loud’ titles and ‘Magic and Adventure’ titles. It doesn't matter if your child has already read the physical version of the book as this is a brand new and exciting way for them to experience the story again. The ages below are just indicators as a guide.

Laugh out loud (LOL i.e. funny books)

To listen a clip from each of these audiobooks click here

  1. Wimpy Kid, Dog Days by Jeff Kinney read by Ramon de Ocampo (age 7+)
  2. The Twits by Roald Dahl ready by Richard Ayoade (age 5+)
  3. Danger is Everywhere by David O’Doherty ready by David O’Doherty (7+)
  4. Dennis the Menace by Steven Butler read by Steven Butler (age 6+)
  5. The Dinosaur That Pooped the Planet by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter - read by authors (age 5+)

Magic & Adventure

  1. The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy read by Gemma Arterton (age 5+)
  2. Going Solo by Roald Dahl ready by Dan Stevens (age 7+)
  3. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll read by Sheridan Smith (6+)
  4. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham - BBC dramatization version (age 6+)
  5. George's Secret Key to the Universe by Lucy & Stephen Hawking ready by James Goode (age 7+)

Those selected will be sent the audiobook of their choice (if download, then it will be sent to the email address given on the form directly from Puffin). We'd then like your child to listen to the audiobook and to share their feedback with you to post on a thread on MN; tell us how you enjoyed the audiobook and what the experience was like. There will be two feedback threads - one for the Laugh out Loud reviewers and one for the Magic and Adventure reviewers. Please note we are looking for feedback around the middle of August: please only apply if you're able to give feedback then.

We'd also like you to add a review of the audiobook on MN.

All who take part and who add feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where four MNers will each win a £75 voucher from either iTunes or Amazon so you can buy audiobooks!.

If you’re interested in taking part please sign up here.

Happy listening.

Yes, please! My 7-year-old daughter would love either the LOL or Magic & Adventure ranges. Fingers crossed she's chosen to participate.

WarmHugs - we have not sent any codes out yet for this - must have been another project?

I think that's why I am confused! The message with the emails says:

Thank you for requesting a free download of ‘Twit: an Early Reader Touch and Listen iBook’ from Mumsnet.

I must sign up for all book tests I see!

DD 7 is away until this evening, just texting relatives to find out which book she'd like, hope it's not first come first served! Grin

HighOverTheFenceLeapsSunnyJim · 05/08/2015 09:14

Excited about this!

Fillybuster · 05/08/2015 12:21

Thank you AnnMumsnet - shame though, as I know DD1 would also love this!

Just wondering when we will hear the outcome? I know you're looking for feedback mid-August so hopefully quite soon, so we have time to listen with the dcs?

burwellmum · 05/08/2015 22:45

Minisoksmakehardwork · 08/08/2015 22:01

Nice surprise arrived in the post this morning :)

PLUtoPlanet · 08/08/2015 22:24

Ours, too! DS is already squirming and cringing and almost-crying at The Twits (well, he's very sensitive, and they're all the favourite MN buzz-words: vile, unhinged and entitled Grin).

supermariossister · 08/08/2015 22:42

Dennis the menace has been played at epic volumes today with roaring laughter Smile really good narrator who just captures the Dennis persona amazingly well

countingdown · 08/08/2015 23:07

Thank you - arrived back this afternoon from a week away and my boys were thrilled to come home to story CDs. We shall enjoy over the next few days.

jetSTAR · 09/08/2015 10:05

Thank you for our Worst Witch CD. We are off on holiday in a few days so hoping to listen on the long journey!
