This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing out the Samsung Smart TV Hub.

Here’s what Samsung has to say: “Samsung Smart TV’s give parents access to a range of family friendly content through the platform from a range of content partners, including Hopster, which offers ad-free and U-rated content for preschoolers via the Samsung Smart Hub, as well as the ability to catch up on shows from popular kid’s channels including CBEEBES, Milkshake! And CITV. Samsung Smart TV’s also help families ‘cut the cord’ on cable TV and get access to a world of extra TV and entertainment options including catch-up TV, movies, YouTube, Skype and loads more. As Samsung Smart TVs already have access to all the scheduled programmes you would expect and a range of great free of charge or pay as you go apps, there’s no need to pay for expensive contracts or bundles, it’s simply a question of choosing the right apps for you! Better yet, you don’t need a set-top box, extra remotes or cables cluttering up your living room, providing you and your kids with a seamless and safe entertainment experience.”

Once you have tested the Smart TV hub for a little while, here are some questions to get you started, but please feel free to add your own comments too

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the family friendly content on the Samsung Smart TV hub?
  • How easy did you find it to use the Samsung Smart TV hub?
  • Which apps have you tried out? What did you and your DCs think of these?
- What did you think of the apps Hopster and Ketchup TV?
  • Did your DCs have a favourite app to use?
  • In your opinion, what are the benefits of using a Samsung Smart TV compared to a normal TV?
  • What did you think about the range of entertainment on offer on the Samsung Smart TV Hub?
  • With the Samsung Smart TV hub, you aren’t tied into contracts and can cancel at any time – is this appealing to you? If so,why? If not, why not?
  • One advantage of the Samsung Smart TV hub can be that you use fewer remotes and cables – is this something which is useful or important to you?
  • What was your overall impression of the Samsung Smart TV Hub?

Everyone who adds their feedback, as well as a review on the app pages on MN, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Samsung on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the family friendly content on the Samsung Smart TV hub?
My Four children aged 8, 9, 11, 12 and my husband.
  • How easy did you find it to use the Samsung Smart TV hub?
Very easy indeed, I liked the ease of the strip which comes along the bottom of the screen and saves you time by saving most popular apps or regularly used ones, as we tended to use the same ones over and over again.
  • Which apps have you tried out? What did you and your DCs think of these?

We tried them all but the ones we used regularly were BBC news, weather, youtube, Netflix, facebook, the kids tried the games including monopoly and game of life and shark dash.

  • What did you think of the apps Hopster and Ketchup TV?

Too young for our kids, quality wasn't great and didn't like the paying factor of Ketchup TV. Wouldn't use again.

  • Did your DCs have a favourite app to use?
They really loved the board game apps, and my eldest loved Skype which we'd never done before, she could contact friends from primary school.
  • In your opinion, what are the benefits of using a Samsung Smart TV compared to a normal TV?

It's like a one stop shop combining a tablet with a tv, so that was a positive feature for us.

  • What did you think about the range of entertainment on offer on the Samsung Smart TV Hub?

We have Sky so having a range of entertainment wasn't so important to us, it was useful to try Netflix though, as we've never tried that. Obviously having what you want to watch when you want to watch it is really convenient and a big advantage for a big family like ours - no arguments!!

  • With the Samsung Smart TV hub, you aren’t tied into contracts and can cancel at any time – is this appealing to you? If so,why? If not, why not?

Yes it's massively appealing to us, not to be tied in gives us freedom to change our mind which happens often!!

  • One advantage of the Samsung Smart TV hub can be that you use fewer remotes and cables – is this something which is useful or important to you?
We have umpteen games and things plugged into the telly, behind the tv is a jungle of cables which get dusty and tangled, so again, a huge advantage.
  • What was your overall impression of the Samsung Smart TV Hub?

Really liked it, will continue to use it, it gave us a range of apps and content we hadn't been able to access usually through the tv, and increases what we can do/watch on the TV.

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the family friendly content on the Samsung Smart TV hub?
All four joined in - aged 3, 5, 9, 10
  • How easy did you find it to use the Samsung Smart TV hub?
We found it so easy to use the Samsung Smart TV Hub, even my 3 year old was able to navigate and select the apps she wanted to use.
  • Which apps have you tried out? What did you and your DCs think of these?
We used Hopster, the internet browser, amazon app and Ketchup TV
  • What did you think of the apps Hopster and Ketchup TV?
My children all enjoyed Hopster and have gone back to watch it over and over since starting the trail. They were'nt as keen on Ketchup TV but I feel thats because they haven't given it much of a chance yet.
  • Did your DCs have a favourite app to use?
Hopster
  • In your opinion, what are the benefits of using a Samsung Smart TV compared to a normal TV?
I think the Samsung Smart TV enables you to do a multitude of things you couldn't do previously, you can access the internet on your tv as well as lots of great apps.
  • What did you think about the range of entertainment on offer on the Samsung Smart TV Hub?
I was really impressed by the range, theres something for everyone.
  • With the Samsung Smart TV hub, you aren’t tied into contracts and can cancel at any time – is this appealing to you? If so,why? If not, why not?
Yes I like the fact theres no contract. It makes it so much easier to dip in and out when you want to.
  • One advantage of the Samsung Smart TV hub can be that you use fewer remotes and cables – is this something which is useful or important to you?
Yes this is really useful especailly with four children of my own and additional children here during the week, remotes often go missing so this makes it easier to keep track of them.
  • What was your overall impression of the Samsung Smart TV Hub?
We've all been really impressed by the smart TV hub, it's something we will continue to use as a family. It's easy to navigate and has lots of choice.
