This thread is for the 25 Mumsnetters who tried out the LG KizON to leave their feedback.

Here’s what LG say, “For the last two weeks, lucky Mumsnetters have been amongst the first in the UK to try out the newest wearable technology from LG Electronics: the KizON.

The LG KizON has been designed specifically for children to wear on their wrists to be used as a direct communication device with their parents and guardians, which connects with Android smartphones via the easy-to-use LG KizON app. Sharing information and call access with a limited number of adults - approved by you - the LG KizON offers ease of mind by delivering real-time information of a wearer’s location and giving your children the ability to securely communicate with you via just a press of a button.

With its GPS capability, durable child-friendly design, easy-to-use functionality and a long lasting battery, the LG KizON offers an unobtrusive and secure way for your family to check in on your child’s location, call them back home for dinner or even just call to say hello, giving you peace of mind and giving them greater freedom and independence while they play.”

Thank you to everyone who’s been getting hands-on with the LG KizON and putting it through its paces over the past couple of weeks.
Please answer the questions below to give us your feedback.

I've just thought - it would be great if the wristband could be detached as the device itself is easily small enough for a pocket and this would get round the fact that it's so large and uncomfortable to wear.

  1. What’s your experience been like so far using the KizON? We have found it a fun & useful product to test. It's been great for 6-year old DS1 to be able to enjoy a bit more independence & he feels very cool wearing it!
  2. What’s your favourite feature on the KizON? I liked lots of features - the location finder, how a DC could call a parent/carer & being able to call my DS directly.
  3. How helpful did you find it being able to reach your children while out of sight? I found it very helpful. Most of the time they were with other responsible adults, but these adults did not always answer their phones so this was a good backup option!
  4. How easy did you and your DC find the KizON to use? We found it very easy to use.
  5. How often did you use the device throughout the trial? We used it a few times a week, particularly at weekends.
  6. What did your DCs think of the design? DS liked that it looks like a watch, whereas I thought the blue cars & trucks design was a little babyish for him.

A few comments from DH & myself: It would be very helpful to have a proper watch on the face of the Kizon. Also, DH & I found it a pain that in order to switch over which carer DS could call you had to go into the app & change it over - it required a lot of planning beforehand which is not always possible for us.

  1. What’s your experience been like so far using the KizON?

I really liked the KizON. I tried it with my 5 and 8 year olds and they really liked it too. We used it a lot over the holidays and the children really enjoyed the extra freedom that they were allowed as well as being able to call me when they liked.
I was disappointed that there was no clock on the the kizON as that would have been really useful.

  1. What’s your favourite feature on the KizON?

I liked both the call and tracker functions. I found the tracker to be very accurate in our case and the children enjoyed playing hide and seek to test it.
The children loved that we could allow a few numbers to call it so they could talk to their grandmother.

  1. How helpful did you find it being able to reach your children while out of sight?

I found it very helpful and just felt safer knowing they were a touch of a button away. It was also good that they could call and ask questions or tell me they were going somewhere else without having to run inside every five minutes.

  1. How easy did you and your DC find the KizON to use?

It was quite easy after getting used to the button but there was once that my 5 year old accidentally called me and it went through to my answering machine until around 15 minutes later when we turned the kizON off so that would really drain the credit.
Also, like others, I did not really feel like I had enough information about using the kizON. I have no idea how to top up with more credit or how to check how much credit is left.

  1. How often did you use the device throughout the trial?

We used the kizON most days of the trial since it was the Easter holidays.

  1. What did your DCs think of the design?

The children actually liked the design although I though it was a little babyish for their age groups. With the device being quite chunky it looks toy like and the pale pink and baby blue really emphasised the baby look.

Overall a good product that we really enjoyed testing, Thank you.

This is a great idea and a really funky looking watch, my son loved it. Really easy to call him and for him, to call me, you can also set it to auto answer so he has to answer the phone or it will connect anyway. He used it loads even if it was just to show off to his friends.

I had no problems with the GPS tracker it was very accurate for me even down to the house number he was playing in and this was great because he moved around his friends houses so I always know where he is.

The text alert service is a little annoying it would be good to be able to choose which alerts you would like to receive because I think the sim is charged for every message sent and it sends a message to the first and second nominated person. Although this does alert you if it has turned off which is brilliant.

We took it on holiday with us but unfortunately there was no mobile phone reception which rendered it completely useless so that would be a consideration for people who live more remotely than me.

The watch itself is quite big and was the width of my 8 year old DS wrist, I can't imagine how it would fit a 3 year old it was huge and not workable for my 2 year old and I think would be far too complicated for a much younger child to work. There is only one button and you need to hold it down to call and then release on voice command.

Overall this is a product I would recommend it is a great mid way product for children too young for a mobile but who need a method of contacting home when they are out of sight and I would now buy one for DD when she is a bit older.

  1. What’s your experience been like so far using the KizON?

It didn't want to connect to the phone initially and cost 10p every time you tried to pair it up which was fairly annoying.

Once set up however it has been very easy to use and the children have been arguing to use it - even my 11 year old thinks it's really cool!

  1. What’s your favourite feature on the KizON?

The call feature - I don't think that the GPS tracking is really accurate enough to be very useful. It needs to pinpoint their location to a much smaller area.

  1. How helpful did you find it being able to reach your children while out of sight?

I loved this - it means that they now take our dog out on their bikes everyday round the fields where we live and I know that they can get in touch if they need to.

  1. How easy did you and your DC find the KizON to use?

The call features are very easy for everyone to use.

  1. How often did you use the device throughout the trial?

They have been using it everyday, still using it everyday now!

  1. What did your DCs think of the design?

They like it they are girls 11, 7 & 6 and they all think it looks great.

I would definitely buy another one so that they can have one each. I love the fact that it means we don't have to think about giving our 11 year old a phone for a few more years now too.
