This is the thread for the Ambrosia Taste Team Testers who have been notified by email that they have been selected to try out the mini pots of custard or rice pudding with their children*

Ambrosia say; "our mini pots of custard or rice have calcium and vitamin D, which are needed for normal growth and development of bone in children. We believe our mini pots are perfect for small appetites. They contain no preservatives or artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners, but are full of dairy goodness. They have a long life and don't need to be chilled, so they are perfect for stocking up on reserve and for use out and about too. They are a perfect pudding solution that children will love!"

For all ingredients please see here

Ambrosia Taste Team Testers, please share on this thread your responses to the following questions:

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

Rice pudding, 4yo DD.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

I did, DD unfortunately didn't. I had hoped she would, but think it was the consistency. She dislikes lumps in yoghurts and I think the rice freaked her out in the same way.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Yes, but I'd be the only one in the family who would eat them.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Yes, I think they're a nice size for a little snack or pudding. I even had one for breakfast one day when I didn't feel like much.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

I mixed strawberry jam in.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

Me

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

No, I think they're nicer warmed up.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

Yes, reasonable price. I would be more likely to buy the slightly bigger plastic pots than the mini ones if for me though.

Coffeechick · 27/10/2014 23:32

We were sent the rice pudding for a six year old dd.

We both enjoyed the pots they were quite tasty, apart from one which was quite watery and didn't have much rice in it. I tried it after I was told it tasted yucky, it might have been the end of a batch (the reason for it bring quite watery and a tiny bit sour tasting).

I would buy the pots again.

Yes I would recommend them but I thought one was a bit small by itself for a dessert.

I served them on their own and with a small piece of cake.

They would probably be eaten after lunch or dinner as a dessert.

Yes I would include them in my daughter's lunchbox.

I would be more likely to buy them if they were on offer ie 2 for 2 pounds.

theHowlatWooooooCorner · 28/10/2014 09:26

We had the rice. DD is 6
The mini pots were OK. DD found them a bit bland, but preferred them when I heated them up (not sure if you're supposed to do this!).

I thought the were very handy for snacks, and as a lunchbox item, but don't think they are large enough for a dessert unless I added fruit to them which rather defeats the convenience objective!
Yes, I'd buy them for lunchboxes. I'm also tempted by the custard because that would be very convenient to add to an apple or some berries for a quick dessert.
I'd recommend them if they came up in conversation.
They aren't bad value for money. They're very handy to have in the cupboard for a change from the usual snacks (particularly now the weather is cooler and a more 'comforting' snack is sometimes required).

Emrob86 · 28/10/2014 10:13

morethanacondiment · 29/10/2014 16:26

We were sent the rice pudding pots, and my 3 & 4 year olds tried them as well as the one year old who gets stroppy if she's excluded from any food-related activity.
The 4yo and 1yo loved them, but the 3yo got a bit funny about the texture halfway through... I remember being the same about rice pudding as a kid!
I'd recommend the pots as they're handy for taking out, or adding a bit of excitement to low-key puddings at home.
We enjoyed the pots with fruit, and also with jam, as well as on their own. My mum's been unwell for a long time and has only just started eating normally again - it was great to see her wolf down three!
We'd probably stick to taking them out with us in quick picnic lunches and having them as a pudding option at home.
I think they're quite average value - I'm used to buying much cheaper yoghurts, but these pots at e reasonably priced as a treat. I suppose they wouldn't be a daily staple in the way that yoghurts are here at Camp Condiment.

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
I was sent rice pudding and tried them with DD (6) and DD (3)

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

They both love them. Very happy to eat them for pudding every day if allowed.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes - although I have bought the larger size Ambrosia rice pudding pots before, and I think I prefer the larger size - both DDs could polish off two of the small pots in this MNet test in one sitting. I would like to try the custards - I think the DDs would really like these as puddings, maybe with chopped banana or another fruit in.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes, definitely.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
The DDs just ate them plain, sometimes warmed up.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
For pudding on a weekday, and in the older DD's lunchbox.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Definitely lunchbox. Maybe not on a picnic as neither DD could be trusted not to spill it down her front!

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
Yes

vincenta · 30/10/2014 16:51

good value for money.

scrivette · 30/10/2014 20:43

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

Custard - my child is 3 but I also have some to a 6 and 7 year old.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

I took some to work and enjoyed them, all the children who tried them liked them. I liked the size of the pots and that they can be stored in the cupboard.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Yes - depending on the price.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Yes I would and have done already.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

On their own - it didn't occur to me to try them with something else.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

I would take them to work, DS would have them after a meal or when eating out.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

Definitely, the size means they are not too heavy or large to carry around and are a good pudding.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

Not too bad but I would be more likely to buy them and stock up if they were on special offer.

ChessieFL · 30/10/2014 21:12

Still waiting for mine :-(

androbbob · 30/10/2014 21:32

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

Rice pudding here - DD12 and DS 7

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

Yes, both my DC enjoy rice pudding and loved to try these. I even was allowed to try them too. They tasted just like they should.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Yes, but would depend on price. Not being refridgerated means I can keep some in the cupboard for ont he go snacks.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Definitely. We took some to my mums when my brother and his three DD were up (aged 4, 7 and 9) and they all tried one and loved them. My SIL will have to go and buy some now!

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

Au naturelle! Straight from the pot with a spoon to the mouth!

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

Any time of day. Tried as part of breakfast, mid morning snack and pre and post sport snack.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

We did take them on a day out earlier this week (football festival) and were the talk of the group!

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

Price ok, but would buy as a 2 for £2 promotion.

I was sent the rice pudding pots and my 3.8 dd tested them (and 7month old Ds!)
I didn't try them as I don't like rice pudding but both children loved them
Yes I would recommend , I did to my friend who has similar age children
I served them warmed up in the microwave as they came
Most likely to eat after evening meal though my dd did have them occasionally as an afternoon snack
Would include in both definitely as an alternative to yoghurt especially as they don't need refrigerating
They are a bit dear at £1.49 for 6 as I would need to buy a fair few, like other posters I would buy them on offer at £1 for 6 or 2 for £2.

Thanks for choosing me to test them!

BestLaidPlans · 01/11/2014 05:23

We were sent custard. DD is 3, though 20 month old DD2 couldn't be kept off them.

Everyone who tried them enjoyed them.

I'd definitely buy again, especially if they were on offer.

I would recommend to others and I passed some on to a friend who enjoyed them equally.

I served them just as they came as a snack or pudding.

We had them for lunches out quite often and DD had them for her preschool lunch. I really like the fact they're stored at ambient temperature, so I don't worry about it spoiling as I do with yoghurt.

As others have said, the price isn't bad, but I'd be likely to stock up when they were on promotion.

Spikeinhiscoat · 01/11/2014 09:58

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with? We had the rice pudding. DS1 (7) was the official tester (and boy does he like giving his opinions!), but DS2 (2) was an enthusiastic helper. Also shared with a friend (3).

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)? Yes, they were nice, and made a nice change from yoghurt

Would you buy any of the mini pots again? Yes

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)? if it came up, yes, I'd say that my children liked them

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)? they were served on their own, but when we get some more, we might add some fruit puree to them (slightly healthier than rice pud and jam I had as a child (still think it's a great comfort food)

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots? after dinner as a pudding

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic? Not for lunchboxes (ds's school has a policy that EVERYTHING is returned home in the lunchbox, so that you can see exactly what has been eaten. We've learnt the hard way not to include yoghurts/juice cartons, as unless they are licked clean, there is always some runny bits left to make a mess of the lunchbox). Possibly on a picnic, as they don't need to be kept refrigerated. I wouldn't use them as an emergency snack as it's too much hassle to take spoons out and about as well.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49). Yes, the pots looked quite small, but the children ate them enthusiastically but didn't ask for seconds, showing they felt that one was enough.

SophieBarringtonWard · 01/11/2014 21:17

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

We were sent rice pudding and tried them with children aged 6 and 3.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ten)?

I thought they were nice enough, and liked the long expiry date which meant they were easy to keep in the cupboard. However neither of the children nor DH liked them!

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Probably not.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Probably, because of the long expiry date & being able to vary the traditional yoghurt for pudding, as I am sure other children must like them!

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

Both on their own and with a dollop of jam.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

After supper.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

If they liked them, as an occasional treat.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

Sounds about right to me.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

DD loves them. I asked her why and she said because they are yummy and cute Grin

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?. I would because DD really loves them

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

I already told my mum to get some for when DD stays there. I gave some to friends to try and they also intend buying them.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

DD has just been eating them on their own, cold.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

DD has been eating them for breakfast dinner and tea.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

Yes I would as tasty and small.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

I think that £1 would be more reasonable for the size of the pots.

Sparkles23 · 03/11/2014 12:23

I was sent the rice puddings, my son who tested them is 4.

Yes we all really enjoyed them, especially my son!

I would definitely buy them again and I would recommend them to friends and family if the topic came up in conversation.

I served them on their own as pudding after dinner.

We would be most likely to eat them as pudding or on day trips, they are perfect size and don't need to be refrigerated so ideal.

I would certainly include one in lunchbox or picnic.

Very good value for money at £1.49, certainly wouldn't think twice about buying them at that price.
