This is the thread for the Ambrosia Taste Team Testers who have been notified by email that they have been selected to try out the mini pots of custard or rice pudding with their children*

Ambrosia say; "our mini pots of custard or rice have calcium and vitamin D, which are needed for normal growth and development of bone in children. We believe our mini pots are perfect for small appetites. They contain no preservatives or artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners, but are full of dairy goodness. They have a long life and don't need to be chilled, so they are perfect for stocking up on reserve and for use out and about too. They are a perfect pudding solution that children will love!"

For all ingredients please see here

Ambrosia Taste Team Testers, please share on this thread your responses to the following questions:

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

We received the custard to try. Dd is 7.10yo and the gannet Ds tried them too and he's 16.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

Yes, we loved them! Dd loved them, Ds too three at a time! and I loved the creamy flavour and consistency.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Not sure about the custard as they are so small. Can't say about the rice pud as we haven't tried those. Are they as small?

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

I would yes, but I can see the size being off putting to most tbh.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

Dd had them in her lunch box. The best thing about the size is they do fit into a smallish lunch box. Ds just helped himself and I assume it was by itself. I had a couple on occasions where I just needed a small thing to take the edge off my hunger and on its own.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

Only for packed lunches or picnics really. I quite like the idea of having something small, sweet and not entirely calorie free to remove the edge/cravings/after school starvation for all of us.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

Yes, exactly right. They aren't exactly a 'pudding' more a snacky mouthful.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

As they work out at 25p per pot, it seems reasonable, but if you look at the one or two mouthfuls of custard you actually get, it's not great value for money really.

Thanks for letting us try them out. I must admit; I would not have bought them to try out otherwise.

Justtrying · 25/10/2014 07:07

We received the custard pots. Dd is 3.5

Dd, dh and myself all tried the pots and enjoyed them.

Dd thought them small, ok when served with banana but two were needed if served on their own.

Dd are them mainly for pudding but occasionally as a snack.

Would definitely take on a picnic.

They are value for money and I would recommend them to others with small children.

Would I buy them, maybe but I'm likely to buy the four pack of the larger pots as the mini pots are too small for dd.

Thanks for the taste test.

Little note to those who's pots haven't arrived, mine were delivered by FedEx and they won't leave them with a neighbour unless you authorise them.

vixo · 25/10/2014 09:23

Tried the rice pudding pots - with a 3 and 6 year old. (the nearly 2 year old had some too!)

They all really enjoyed them. My 6 year old said the pots looked really nice, but I was surprised that she didn't mention that they were quite small (I think she was rather impressed by the number we'd been sent, so the size of the individual pot wasn't an issue!!)

I would recommend them as they're handy to keep in the cupboard, and I like that they're not too big so give a little bit of a sweet pudding but not too much. I think, like most of us, children are getting used to portions being much bigger than they should, so something like this which is a reasonable child-sized portion is actually quite a useful gauge for them, and for us as parents, as to what is a sensible amount for them to eat.

The children ate the pots just as they came, but I think they'd also be nice put in a bowl with sliced banana after 30 secs in the microwave - bulk them out a bit and add some fruit. I would definitely include them in packed lunches or picnics as they don't need to be kept cool.

I don't often buy things like this, but I do think they'd be really handy to have in the cupboard as a standby, so I probably would buy them. Not sure about whether they're good value for money - not when you consider what rice pudding costs to make fresh, but for the convenience aspect I suppose they are!

TipseyTorvey · 25/10/2014 10:44

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

  • Custard. DS is 3 (nearly 4)

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

-He loved them, he asked for them by name after the first time.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

  • Probably - I think the rice pudding ones sound more interesting as rice pudding is a 'pudding' in its own right.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

  • Probably, yes.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

  • On their own. Although we did realised we'd run out of big custard once so used 2 or 3 over crumble.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

  • After school treat, after kid's tea as pudding but then usually with something else like some fruit.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

  • Okay value, not amazing. He can eat the bigger pots which are better value.
Mrgoldensun · 25/10/2014 15:11

Custard. Children are 1 (17months) and 3.
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
Children loved them! As did their dad.
Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Would definitely by the custard pots again. They were a nice alternative to yoghurt or fruit. Not sure about rice pudding...we tend to make our own.
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes, family have similar aged children and I would recommend.
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
So far just on their own but I like the idea of using them on crumble if needed.
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
After their evening meal.
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Yes, I would.
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
I'd be more likely to buy them if they were £1. Which I imagine they might be when on offer.

wheat32 · 25/10/2014 19:49

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

Sent the custards tried them on DS 3 and DH 40!!
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

DS loves them. They are just the right size for a toddler. I usually buy him pots of custard but think they're a wee bit too big for him the mini pots are a perfect size

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes I would buy them again. As they have a fairly long shelf life you can keep them in the cupboard for pudding emergencies.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes I would for someone with a similar aged child
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
Served with fruit/ ginger sponge and by themselves.
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
As a pudding after main meal
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
No not in a lunchbox too messy.
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
yes they are although as the recommended serving size is 2 you might get through them quite quick.

QuietNinjaTardis · 26/10/2014 12:03

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

I was sent rice pudding and tried it on my dc who are 10 months and 4 and I also gave some pots to my friends dc who are 4 and 8.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
I quite liked it, my dd spat it out and my ds said yuck. However my friends dc loved it.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

No.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Yes I probably would as I assume most kids would like them.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

On their own.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

For pudding or a snack.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

Yes if they liked them I would as they don't need to be refrigerated.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49

Quite good value.

MrsPiddlewink · 26/10/2014 12:21

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
We were sent custard. My 3 and 5 year old had the majority. My 8 year old tried a couple.
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
*My 5 year old has never liked custard, but enjoyed these. My 3 year old loved them. I thought they were a bit watery.
Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
No. When they arrived half had split during transportation. I didn't trust that it wouldn't happen in the kids lunchboxes so decanted them into containers for them to take to school - more economical to by a big pot! Although they were handy at home.
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes.
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
On their own. With fruit. With a small sponge cake.
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
At home
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
No - for reason stated above. The plastic's not study enough
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
Yes - cheaper than I expected

lilyloo · 26/10/2014 13:29

Confused have been sent a link to the feedback thread but haven't had anything to test ?

Jcee · 26/10/2014 14:33

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

We received rice pudding for DD aged 4 and shared them with our neighbour who has children aged 4 and 7.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

All the children loved them as did the parents.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Yes. Initially I thought they were a bit small but they turned out to be just enough for DD as a dessert after dinner, but probably a bit small for an older child. Good size for a snack or lunchbox. Also having tried and enjoyed the rice pudding, we would like to try the custard ones.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes definitely

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

Mainly on their own, sometimes with a blob of jam or raisins in

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
Probably as a dessert

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Yes

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

Its comparable in size and cost to yoghurts I buy for DD so yes, even better if there was a multibuy offer with the custard ones eg buy 2 for £2-£2.50

Thanks for letting us try them - we enjoyed it!

Moleyjay · 26/10/2014 16:09

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
We were sent custard and my Ds is 5.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
Very much so. We all enjoyed the custard myself and my husband included!

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

  • yes. Found them the ideal size for a quick pudding for one.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

  • Yes I would.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something )

  • my son liked them warm. Sometimes served with fruit or a piece of cake as a quick pudding and sometimes by itself as a quick snack after school.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

  • after dinner

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

  • yes definitely. I really liked that they did not need refrigerating and just a nice size for a lunch box although my son no longer has a packed lunch due to free school dinners.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

  • yes similar price to a pack of yoghurts. I usually buy what's on offer for a £1 though.
Velocirapture · 26/10/2014 16:14

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
Rice pudding. Child is 7 ( as is friend)
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
I thought they were a bit insipid. Child didn't care for them. Friend did like them
Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
No.
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
I would say that they are nice enough but DS didn't like them.
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
On their own.
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
Lunch box. or breakfast.
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Yes if he had liked them.
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
Yes.

MrsTatum1980 · 26/10/2014 19:23

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with? Custard and a 6 year old girl.
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)? Yes, we both did! But my 6 year old has a very 'healthy' appetite and I found she needed 2 pots to really enjoy them as they were definitely mini pots, this meant only really 3 servings per pack
Would you buy any of the mini pots again? Probably not unless they were on offer, the portion size wasn't great for my particular child. As I'm on a diet though I thought they were good to get a small amount of something sweet.
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)? Taste and flavour wise, yes. Value for money, probably not
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)? We had them after a main meal with chopped up fruit to dunk in and daughter had them on her own in her packed lunch
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots? After evening meal and in packed lunch
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic? Yes
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49) not particularly as my daughter always wanted at least two due to small size so wouldn't even last a week of packed lunches, we'd need at least two packs.
Great tasting product but just too small to satisfy my little one.

hidingunderthebed · 26/10/2014 19:50

Rice pudding 8 year old boy/7 year old boy/ 5 year old girl.
Two of the children enjoyed the pots very much, the seven year old did not, however he is generally fussy.
I would buy the pots again.
I would recommend the pots to a friend.
I served the pots alone.
The children ate the pots in their school packed lunch, and after lunchtime at home.
I would and did include the pots as part of a lunch box.
I thought the pots presented a reasonable value for money. Price wise they were a similar price point to competitive products.

Thank you for allowing us to try them :)

howtoapproachthis · 27/10/2014 06:55

I was sent the custard pots, and my child is 3.
she really did enjoy them, and also my dad had one when he came round and he did too!
I would buy them again, and yes I'd recommend them.
I serve them on their own, if she wanted 2 I gave her 2 but at least I wasn't wasting any. my dd is so fussy and a small eater (my whole family are) so these are the perfect size. plus i know its a good size snack for her to have without spoiling her dinner if it is in between meals.

we would eat the custard either as a snack if she is hungry in between meals, or as a dessert after dinner, or is going through a very fussy period and won't eat anything, i could give her something like toast and a pot of custard.
yes i would include in her lunch box or on a picnic.
I would say they are good value for money, although I always seem to look for things that have been reduced to a pound. however, since my dd is that fussy and its hard to find things she likes and i don't like giving her yoghurts all the time, i would pay the 1.50.

littlemonkeymum · 27/10/2014 10:55

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
Rice pudding - 5 year old girl
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
Yes, I tried them and was pleasantly surprised. My DD also enjoyed them & thought they were quite a novelty
Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes, especially if they were on offer. They are good to have stocked in the cupboard & a bonus that they don't need to stay in the fridge
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes, they are handy for kids & good for me to eat when I'm on a diet as a treat
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
On their own
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
As a quick pudding after a meal at home & perhaps in a lunchbox
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Perhaps
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
They are okay for the price. I would definitely buy them if they were on offer though

titchypumpkin · 27/10/2014 11:20

Still nothing has arrived here :-(

I (perhaps foolishly) pointed them out in the supermarket to DD1 (3) and now she keeps mentioning the pudding that is coming in the post considers posting pots to herself to shut DD up

georgieandjess · 27/10/2014 11:37

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
Rice Pudding, my daughter is 4

My daughter really liked them
Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes I would, they are a good size for a pudding for children
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
On their own, never really thought to serve them with anything else

Yes
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
They are a little more expensive than I would usually pay but I would definitely buy them on offer

Thanks for choosing us to test these.

Cherryjellybean · 27/10/2014 12:41

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
We had the custard and my daughter is 3.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
Yes they were very yummy, me and my dh enjoyed them but my daughter wasn't a fan, but we have discovered its custard in general. ( she hadn't really tried it much before).

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Id buy ambrosia custard but maybe not in mini pots. Partly as my daughter won't eat them, and I'd get more for my money if I bought ambrosia in a carton.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
If their child loved custard yes :)

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
I ate lots from the pot, and we had some on sticky toffee pudding and apple pie.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
I ate them as a sweet snack mostly

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Possibly if she liked them, but I would be more inclined to put yoghurt in as they are seen as more healthy.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
Not overly, for the amount you get. But I do really like them.
Thanks for sending them to us :)

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

Custard. Children aged 5 and 7

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

Yes, and DS1 who already likes custard did too. DS2 didn't. I was hoping they'd convert him!

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Maybe. Would depend on price, etc. Particularly likely to if they were on special offer.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Possibly. They're quite handy.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
Mostly on their own but sometimes with cake and/or fruit.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
For pudding after lunch or tea.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Yes. It's handy not to have to keep them in the fridge and DS1 doesn't have packed lunch very often so they wouldn't go off in between whiles.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
They're rather more than I generally pay for yoghurt and a very expensive way of buying custard, although the convenience factor might balance that out.

gildedlily · 27/10/2014 21:50

Both DSs really loved the custard. DS 2 preferred it straight from the pot but DS 1 has also had it on sticky toffee pudding. We don't have packed lunches but think they would be good if we did. The price is good value and I would recommend them I might buy them again for a treat but am more likely to buy a large carton.

Bedat10 · 27/10/2014 22:07

We got custard and my 5 year old DS tested them. He liked them, he eats custard anyway normally so I thought he would.
Would possibly buy again if on special offer. Handy to have in cupboard for when we run out of yogurts. Also good for picnics/days out as you don't have to keep them cool.
He had them on their own and also sometimes with a little cake. Most likely to eat them for puddings rather than snacks. Better than having a big tin or carton as I don't really eat custard much and so it would go off.
I think not that great value for money as obviously you get a better deal buying a tin, but if they were on a 2 for £2 offer I'd probably buy them again as they seem to be a useful thing to have in the cupboard.
Thanks!
