  1. Value
Comparable with others tbh, not particularly cheap, but I prefer the cover to some of them, as it looks less tacky.
  1. Yes I would recommend this above one of the other sites I use regularly.
Nerf · 20/10/2014 22:15
  1. Don't know haven't seen gloss in the flesh.
  1. Yes I'm going to try to do more exciting things with it next time (we do them every six months).

I've just received my photobook after ordering on Wednesday. I'm planning to give it to my husband for Christmas, it has all of his photos from his gap year that he's been meaning to turn into a book since 2006!

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

I think the book is lovely, really good quality. The process of creating and ordering it was fine, and the turnaround time was pretty fast.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

As others have said, I'd prefer not to download the software. I didn't have the problems that others have mentioned with it though, it downloaded easily and worked as expected. I found it a bit less user friendly than other photobook software I've used, but thought it had more options to customise the book.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think the price is comparable to other books of similar quality, but I would never pay full price as there are always so many offers on photobooks. I had extra pages in mine which made the value £54.99, which is about double what I would expect to pay.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

For the quality yes, but I think they're overpriced.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

For landscapes I think the matte finish is lovely. For pictures of people, I prefer gloss.

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think this book is better quality for something special. I've started doing a book a year for all of our family photos and I'm not sure I'd pay a premium for those.

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

I was so excited that I may have rushed the whole process, but I am delighted with the result considering I could have spent more time on it. The process from start to finish was relatively easy for me.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I found the software to be reasonably easy to use, but since I have had experiences with other similar packages I wasn't a photobook virgin. I think that there could have been a few pop up tutorials the first time you open it. I was able to edit and adapt the book once I had selected the autofill choice. I am still confused over why some of my photos became backdrops.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from 37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think that this is quite expensive for me. The value of the book that I received was 54 after the p&p. It would have to have been a really special occasion for me to spend that much on a photobook. If I was doing a wedding on the cheap, it might have been an option...?

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

The ease of use and quality would make me recommend the photobook. Although would I call it "Seeeweeee" or "Cee Eee double you Eee"?
I'd probably just send them a link!
I've shown all my family and friends at work - they are very impressed.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would not have normally picked a matt finish, but it looks good, and the pages are nice and thick. i would worry that the pages would pick up greasy finger prints, but time will tell.

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have used a couple of photo book retailers before and the quality appears better than one of them for sure.

I wish I hadn't have rushed the process now, and tried some of the other features. However, I am delighted with my book. The photos look excellent and it is a perfect momento.

I would like to print my special photos to a photobook for holidays, Christmas or Birthdays - but I am not sure if I could justify the expense.

Question 1&2 combi answer;
overall I don't think I explored all the options within the software. I found it easy to change page layouts and number of photos, background etc. I liked that I could do it all on my laptop rather than uploading photos to a program within a site. I would have liked writing over the buttons on the tool bar when I hovered over them, I wasn't sure what a lot of them did. I found it easy to add and remove pages, as well as photos. Adding text, again no problems. I did have a few problems adding my item to the basket, it stopped responding on a few attempts at this point.
I was also too impatient to bother looking at the examples on the website, I simply followed the step by step instructions on the PDF and did very little with regard looking at what I could do.
I liked that it warned me if images would be blurry.
I'll come back to the next questions once I get the book.

snowymum12 · 21/10/2014 16:59
  1. once the software had downloaded onto my computer (which took ages!) I actually found it pretty straightforward. I had all of my photos in one folder, which helped. There were lots of extra bits that I could add if I wanted but, to be honest, I prefer a more simple photobook so hardly used them. Again,it took a really long time to process the order. I've used other photo book companies before and found this the least 'user friendly'.

  2. Again, I found the software pretty straightforward to use but think that there are easier products around.

  3. I think that £37.99 (+ postage) is quite expensive, although the book is lovely.

  4. I probably wouldn't recommend CEWE photo books to others as there are other products around that I found easier to use and a bit 'prettier' in terms of the backgrounds, etc.

  5. I also think that I prefer a glossy finish to a photo book although the true matte might look better with black and white or sepia photos (I used colour photos for my book)

  6. I've used two other companies and found them both to be easier to use, a little cheaper (there are always offers on photo books!) and, as I said previously, a bit prettier in terms of backgrounds etc.

Treadlightly · 21/10/2014 18:03

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

Well, I had major problems downloading the software. It was very frustrating and I'm using OK with techy things! My dh sorted it for me though so I managed to order my photo book.
Once I had it all downloaded it was quite straightforward to make my book. I had all my photos ready in a folder and used the assistant.

I haven't received my book yet so will have to report back when I get it.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I couldn't get it downloaded on my pc easily. I needed some help! It was easy to use once i had it working.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think you can get them cheaper than that from other websites but it is not a bad price. It depends on what the finished book looks like.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Maybe. It wasn't that easy to use. I've had more success with snapfish and photobox.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I like matte but may choose glossy if it was a gift.

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?
I think snapfish and photobox were easier & i preferred the backgrounds with them.

When I get my photo book I'll come back to the thread and report back Grin

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

Mine arrived today. I LOVE the photobook. LOVE it. It is absolutely beautiful and it will be a treasured possession. The front and back covers are really lovely and it has a really professional finish.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I found it a nightmare, though I am very computer-savvy. I have a MAC, it downloaded fine but I found it very hard to navigate the software. It crashed about 7 times during the making process but luckily I am a regular saver! I have used PhotoBox before with no problems. The Assistant seemed like a great idea but it put photos in illogical places (cutting heads off, for eg) and then it was extremely hard to move them. I used 175 photos and the book took me about 7 hours to assemble.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think it is a bit pricey. I think £28-£30 would be more reasonable.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would because it is such a lovely book. See below about the finish...

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I did like it a lot. It seemed more professional - like a keepsake book or a really posh and upmarket magazine. With the glossy finishes you often have to fiddle about with the angles of the book so you can see all the picture - I found this easier on the eye. Also lovely because 2 or more people can look at the same time with no problems of reflected light.

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?

I might switch despite the price uplift because of the finish. It would have to be an annual treat rather than a really regular thing though because it does seem expensive.

michele1970 · 21/10/2014 21:37

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

I was very impressed with the quality and finish of the book. I have created photobooks before so had something to compare it to and can honestly say that I was very impressed. I found the software very easy to download and only encountered one problem which was when I was checking out but it was my error as I hadn't followed the instructions properly and chosen the True Matt option. Apart from that I didn't have any problems at all.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I used the assistant to help me plan the pages which is perhaps why I found it so simple! I liked how it put a tick next to the photos that had been used to save duplicating any in the book (which I have done before!). I created a book of my recent family holiday and I liked how it put the photos into date order. I found it easy to go through each page and move the photos to make them fit better in each space. There were lots of different buttons which I had no idea what they were for but as I was very pleased with the finished look of my book I decided not to poke about in case I ruined what I had created!!

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think that it is a good price for the quality of the product but as I am always on the look out to save money I would probably wait until there was a promotion on and it was a bit cheaper before I purchased one. I would definitely purchase another photobook from CEWE but as I say, I would probably wait until there was an offer on.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would definitely recommend CEWE. The software was easy to download and the process of creating a book was simple with the aid of the assistant. My order was processed really quickly and arrived promptly in suitable packaging that it did not get damaged in transit.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

The jury is still out on this one! I can't decide whether I prefer it or not. One thing that I definitely liked about it is that it doesn't show finger prints as easily as the gloss books that I have, so that is definitely a plus!

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have created photo books before with several different companies with varying degrees of success. CEWE compares very favourably to other companies I have used. This could be because I used the assistant which made it very easy whereas in the past I have not used an assistant which is much harder work. For that reason I would probably switch to CEWE if they were competitively priced against another provider.

thewomaninwhite · 21/10/2014 22:37

Will pop back once my book has arrived. Like another poster, I found the software tricky in places. Will be back to report in greater detail.

ekt55 · 22/10/2014 08:07

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?
I have ordered my book but it has not arrived yet so will give my impressions of the book itself when it arrives. I thought the process of creating and ordering it was reasonably straightforward and quite enjoyed it. I particularly liked that I didn't have to upload all my photos to a website first.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
It took me a long time to download the software but once that had finished it seemed relatively straightforward. I created the book myself, rather than using the assistant and found it pretty easy to do. The buttons I needed were all placed logically (at least for someone used to Microsoft and Windows). Occasionally the software got a bit slow but I assumed that was because of the size and number of photos I was using. It didn't really ever freeze on me. It would have been nice to have a warning just before clicking the final "order" button about how long it would take to upload everything. My book took about half an hour and you need to be connected to the internet throughout the upload process.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?
The price seems reasonable and compares well with other products available. I haven't yet got my book so will update when it arrives but based on putting the book together I would probably use the software again as it means I can create the book offline.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it - the software is straightforward to use and you don't have to spend ages uploading the photos you want to use to a website before you can create the book.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I have only just ordered it so not got the book back yet - will update once it arrives.

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?
I liked the ability to create the book offline, from photos on my computer (I didn't use the feature to take them from facebook as I don't really have any photos on there). I also liked the option of inserting videos: I have put in 2 videos so will see how they turn out. Assuming the book is of equally good quality I will switch.

daylight · 22/10/2014 12:32

Just waiting on my book to arrive to leave a complete feedback!

strawberryblondebint · 22/10/2014 12:34

I haven't had a chance to start mine yet. Got married last week and waiting on my friend handing over the photos. Should get them at the weekend and then it's all systems go. Does anyone know if I can create this on my iPad

trikken · 22/10/2014 14:26
  1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

I liked the photo book in general and the cover looked well made but I found it very difficult to make and order. I didn't like having to download the software as it took the best part of an hour. I would have given up at this stage had I been paying for it as it almost brought me to tears. The making process took a lot lonher than any photobook I'd made before and quite stressful to be honest.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I disliked it greatly. Took too long tp download and install and was very complicated to use. I couldn't move the pictures where I wanted to and there were far too many buttons that didn't seem to do anything useful. Also actually choosing my pictures was difficult and ended up having to delete 500 pictures. Only after I had made it I worked out that I could have clicked and dragged and deleted them all in one go instead of a few at a time! The layout of the software seemed very confusing and could do with simplifying it and explaining it a bit better as I could work out what half the buttons were actually for.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think it is quite expensive. Ive had similar products before for cheaper and though I did think the hardback cover was great I think others are better value for money that are of better quality. It would have been out of my price range normally. Plus the p&p is quite expensive considering the cost of the book itself.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Id mention it as an option as it did turn out nice, but I would also mention that the software was hard to use so only use it if you are prepared to spend a lot of time fiddling about working out what it all does first.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I thought it was ok. Made buildings and backgrounds look brilliant but I definitely prefer the shiny photo finish as it looks better for people. Also it hides the blurryness a little whereas it exacerbates it with the matt finish.

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have used photobox and snapfish before and would say I think that they are both better value and photobox is much better quality so would stick with that instead. The fussiness of the software and complicated way of sorting photos put me off a lot.

supermariossister · 22/10/2014 14:45

strawberry you won't be able to do it on your iPad as you need to be able to choose truematte finish option which you can't on the app. also congratulations Grin.

strawberryblondebint · 22/10/2014 17:27

Thanks supermario. 'Twas a lovely wee wedding. Can't wait to get the pics

ThePortlyPinUp · 22/10/2014 19:41

I only managed to order mine tonight after many emails to and fro, the service I recieved from Cewe Photobook customer service was brilliant. Once I had managed to download the software I used the assistant to create my book and it was very quick and easy. I'm looking forward to receiving it as it will be our only photo album of our wedding in September.

kennythekangaroo · 22/10/2014 20:41

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?
The finished book is lovely, really nicely made. I found the creating a bit of a fiddle it just took a couple of hours and the ordering was very straight forward.

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would rather have designed it online rather than download software and would usually avoid using a site that needs you to do this. The software wasn't the most intuitive to use and would have benefitted with clearer labelling of the tools at the top or drop down menus. The page layout seemed to alter each time I started a new page which was a little irritating.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I think it is more money than I would have spent on a photo book. I would be more inclined to find a company with a special offer on.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. It is a lovely book. However I would only recommend it to people who are reasonably computer savvy or don't mind spending a while creating it.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
The matte is nice but I think I would prefer gloss.

Juliehoggle · 22/10/2014 20:46

Q1 overall impression is that it was very easy to do from start to finish. Downloaded software
q2 the software was very easy to use, I used the assistant then changed some pages. I got the hang of it quickly and had it looking as I wanted in about 30 minutes of tweaking. The software made a lot of sense, I didn't need to use the help on any occasions. I used the resize abs the red eye reduction too which worked well too. My main issue was deciding what phots to put in and getting them in the right order which I did in advance in the folder which made it really easy when creating the photo book.
Q3 I'm waiting to receive it but it does seem quite steep to me. I haven't ever done one before and I don't know if I would have spent £55 on what I created. People might for a very special occasion.
Q4 for a special occasion definitely, it was very easy to create and there was so much choice to create a unique look.
Q5 not recieved yet so will confirm this but I only every print Matt photos as I dont like glossy so I know in advance I will like it better!
Q6 I've never done it before so I'm sorry I can't compare.

Will update again when I recieve it :-) thanks for letting me try this out I'm looking forward to getting it.

Trinpy · 22/10/2014 21:34

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

A bit tricky to begin with, but once I got the hang of using the software I became utterly obsessed started to enjoy putting it all together!

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I wasn't expecting to have to download software and expected the worst, but it was very quick to download and install (I used the Windows version). It did freeze up a bit, and it was very slow when ordering and when using the preview function, but overall it was ok. I used the photo assistant, but I ended up having to change around so much of it to display the photos at their best I don't think it made the whole process any easier. I loved all the masks and frames; the clip art was a bit disappointing - a lot of it was a bit cartoony and naff - I liked the scrap book style stuff though. The layout was confusing and even after a few days of using it I still didn't feel like I knew what all the different buttons did; I think drop-down menus would have been easier to navigate.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think that's about average. I might buy another Cewe photobook as a present for someone.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I might recommend it to someone who was very computer literate and who would enjoy spending ages fiddling around making their photobook perfect.

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'll come back to answer this one once my order arrives!

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?

I used Photobox about 3 years ago, which crashed constantly and was generally a pain to use. I liked that you could download the software with Cewe. I think I would be more likely to use Cewe if I was making another photobook.

Q1. My impressions of it were good. The process of creating and ordering it was although quite long pretty straightforward.

Q2. It was quite a long process, but I've found that making a photobook with all other websites to be just as long a process. I did find it straightforward to use.

Q3. I think for what you get - a hardback photobook - it is good value for money. I might purchase a Cewe photobook again although I wouldn't spend that much money, I would only buy if there was a discount of some sort.

Q4. Yes, I would recommend it.

Q5. I don't really have a preference TBH. I like the matte finish, but also like other finishes to previous photobooks I've purchased.

Q6. I have used other photo book retailers in the past. I would consider switching to Cewe if the price was right. I tend to use the website with the cheapest option or the biggest discount.

Does anyone know how I can make my book less than 42 pages? I've tried deleting the extra pages that I don't want but they don't actually go anywhere!

I only need 38 pages and will be really annoyed if I have to go back and amend the whole book to make it take up another 4.

Q1. What are your overall impressions of the True Matte CEWE PHOTOBOOK and the process of creating and ordering your photo book?

it was ok, but it would have been helpful to have tips when pictures were added there was no guidance to say if the picture quality was good enough, I have used another site to make a calendar before and it was simple. The checkout process was easy enough although the option to order without registering would be good, also I dont like downloading software to order

Q2. What do you think of the software you used to design your CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Did you find it easy to use, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

As I said previously I didn't like having to download the software to be able to create the book, I do think that will put some people off.As someone who is not used to this type of software I didn't find it easy to use, there were a lot of tools which I didnt use because I didnt know what they did or what options were available, the complexity of it would put someone who has limited knowledge off, if I was not part of this product test I would have given up. Something that offers different options for backgrounds, clipart, etc and shows you how the finished result could look if you used them, that would have been great for a novice like me.

Q3. The RRP for the True Matte CEWE PHOTBOOK Large Landscape is from £37.99, do you think that this is good value for money, or not? Do you think you would you purchase a CEWE PHOTOBOOK again? If so, why? If not, why not?

The price is reasonable, not something I could afford to do often, however it is a perfect Christmas present for grandparents or for a special birthday

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend CEWE PHOTOBOOK to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

yes I think I would, but it would probably only be those who I think would be able to use the software

Q5. Do you prefer the True Matte finish to more conventional finishes, or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

yes I do its classy

Q6. If you had used another photo book retailer before, how does it compare to CEWE PHOTOBOOK? Would you now switch to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK? If so, why? If not, why not?

the other site I used was simpler and quite basic, the finished result was ok. I dont do this sort of book very often, I would consider Cewe photobook if I was ordering another book or similar item
