Looking to improve your lifestyle? UK MNers needed to try The Orb from Fitbug - worth £50 NOW CLOSED

We have been asked by the team at fitbug.com to find 50 UK MNers to try The Orb fitness tracker. We're looking for Mumsnetters who are keen to track their fitness levels everyday, those who are embarking on a new fitness plan (maybe trying to lose post baby weight), and those who just want to try out this product.

Fitbug says: "The system sets you personal targets each week for steps and food, helping you improve your lifestyle at a rate you can gradually adjust to, so it’s not a hardcore exercise regime or a diet that you do for a short time, but a way of improving your habits for the long term."

See here for a brief overview.

The Orb is iOS and Android compatible - but check the list of compatible Android handsets here: www.fitbug.com/connect

If selected, you'll be sent The Orb to try for a few weeks and so long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the product. There are no ongoing costs to worry about. You will also be able to download the Fitbug app and get more info on the Fitliving site: www.fitbug.com/uk/fitliving

In addition, all MNers who are selected will be given access to one-to-one support at Fitbug for their new gadget, should they need it.

If selected, you will be sent the Orb at the middle of August, and asked to try it for around a month. We're looking for feedback on a thread on Mumsnet twice: once on first impressions, on opening/ first use - on set up/ why you wanted to take part, etc. and then at the end of the month on your overall experiences with it, what you liked about it etc. The second feedback will be early - mid September. Please only apply if you're able to take part and add feedback at these times.
Please also note that Fitbug may use your feedback comments on their website and social media channels, as well as elsewhere.

If you'd like to take part, please add your details here: www.surveymonkey.com/s/JJS297S
We will be in touch with selected MNers ASAP. If you're not selected, please keep an eye out for the feedback thread, as there will be an extra chance to win Fitbug products.

Thanks and good luck!

Hmmmmm got the sleep data now. It seems about right. Turned on at midnight and off at 9.15 which it probably was by the time I got it sorted. There's a couple if waking bits between 7.15 and 8.30 when I actually got out if bed. The instructions on the website definitely says sleep mode turns itself off after 50 steps if you don't do it manually YeGods

Have just returned from my morning run. MapMyRun gives me 3.8k covered. Orb says 2.45 for the morning so far so quite a bit of difference. Orb says 294 calories burnt versus 380 on MapMyRun. They both have the same data in terms of weight, height etc.

affafantoosh · 17/08/2014 10:56

Hmmm. Anyone else really glad they didn't invest in one themselves? I'd be raging if I'd spent fifty quid on this!

affafantoosh · 17/08/2014 10:57

Can I just ask - can anyone see the Orb in their list of Bluetooth devices?

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 17/08/2014 11:29

FitByForty thanks, I'd completely missed that on the website (was trying to set up/register just with my phone and was short on time once I finally turned laptop on.) Got emails today about sleep mode saying it switches sleep mode off after 50 steps, as you say. Only it doesn't do that. Hmm

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 17/08/2014 12:18

affafantoosh I checked my bluetooth list and clicked on a box next to what I think is my orb. I now have a fitbug icon on my top toolbar and it seems to be constantly updating/streaming/syncing.

bumpiesonamission · 17/08/2014 13:02

Can anyone answer a question about the sleep mode. If I activate it when I go to bed and off in the morning. How will it track when I get used to lo although I know it's bang on every hrs?

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 17/08/2014 13:11

How will it track what?

If you are active (e.g. trip to the too) in sleep mode, it just shows as a spike of activity on the sleep graph. If very active (lots of repetitive wrist action, say) you might want to leave the orb on the bedside table, beside the beaker! [hrin]

bumpiesonamission · 17/08/2014 13:39

lol at increased wrist action

Ah ok, but it doesn't seem to match up with when I went to feed lo last night?!Envy

Right so far I've been able to add what I've eaten to the Food Library using the website on my ipad and navigate around but it still isn't recognising any of my activity even when I push the wee button. So it must recognise my Orb? I don't even know what I'm talking about now. I'm gibbering.

affafantoosh I can't see the Orb in my Bluetooth, I think that's the problem - it looks like this pic:

It's seriously doing my head in as I just want it to START. I've walked miles today. not really Grin

Have just sent an email enquiry, hopefully I can get it sorted as it's a cute if frustrating little device.

Maybe there will be a Special Thread tomorrow.

Looks like I should have read the thread before I tried the update.... Usually I don't go for updates till they've been tried n tested....

Looks like it's bricked ....

My phone was also not running properly so I deleted the app snd unpaired the orb, the reinstalled the app and suddenly the update screen reappeared and it completed the update...

So I have now re-paired it and everything is working again .....
