Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches provide drug free soothing pain relief from pregnancy related muscular back pain. Like an ice pack, but more convenient and easy to use, Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches work by cooling the skin and underlying tissue helping to reduce both pain and swelling.

Here's what Deep Freeze say: "Back pain affects three out of four pregnant women yet many areunaware of the risks of taking certain medication during pregnancy according to new research. But there is no need to grin and bear the muscular aches and pains of pregnancy as just over half (55%) of women currently do."

They go on to say: "The cryotherapy (cold cooling pain relief therapy) provided by Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patch provides fast acting, self-adhesive, cooling pain relief to the affected area for up to 3 hours."

So testers, please share on this thread your opinion on the following: all comments welcome!

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?

Everyone who tests the product and adds feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win £250 worth of John Lewis vouchers.

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

I'm currently breastfeeding a 16 month old and suffer with migraines and occasional back, shoulder & neck pain. I use ice packs quite a bit, a handy relief for bruises.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

Really easy to apply, very thin and flexible so easy to apply to awkward parts. The problem I have with current ice packs is their inflexibility and ease of application.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?

not really, it didn't give me the relief I was hoping for. I regularly use an ice pack for pain relief and hoped to have a similar kind of relief from these patches. They left it cool and tingly and not enough to be of actual relief.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

I wouldn't go out and buy them.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?

I wouldn't recommend them, I would be recommending actual cold patches

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money? As I didn't find the product that effective I'm not sure this is good value for money.

Abc135 · 29/07/2014 11:36

Q1 Iam breastfeeding and suffer from sciatica, I hoped the patches would be able to help with some of the discomfort and allow me to sit in a position long enough to feed my baby, without having to take any drugs which I am not prepared to do whilst breast feeding

Q2 I found them tricky to get on myself on my back and it was easier when someone else could help. They faded off for me after 2 hours. In the heat though when I was sweating they tend to loose the stickiness which keeps them in place, however it has been unusually hot the past couple of weeks so it shouldn't imagine this would be a problem throughout the year.

Q3 yes I found the patch did offer me relief from the pain/discomfort for a period of time

Q4 yes I would use them again, I could imagine that if I became pregnant again I would also use them at that time.

Q5 yes I would

Q6 I do think they are priced too high, it would be the price which would put me off buying them

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
I am currently breastfeeding and suffer with lower back pain.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
The patch itself was easy to apply, I felt it working (cooling) but only for around an hour and I also noted they worked better if the patch was covered - I tried them on my back and also ankle area as I have some ligament injury at the moment.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains? the cooling of the patch felt nice when I could feel it but as I said it didn't last too long.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?
I think I would consider them again if a reasonable price

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?
I would recommend them and it would be intersting to see how others find them.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?
For me I feel that I would not get value for money

jessikins24 · 29/07/2014 17:45
  1. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have back pain every day. I also have a lot of abdominal pain caused by huge fibroid.
  2. The patch was easy to apply and lasted about 2 hours. Sometimes the stickiness was a bit inconsistent, rolling up at the edges.
3 . Yes - fantastic!
  1. Yes. So easy to use, no fuss or mess or vile smell!
  2. I think these are expensive. I might consider if they were on offer, but would be more likely to go for a tube of gel as I think it would be a lot cheaper, especially if I was using for a prolonged period. I think £1 each or £2.50 for 4 would be reasonable, and would be good to see a multipack value pack too.
Thanks for the trial!
jessikins24 · 29/07/2014 17:46

Sorry, I missed question 5!
I would recommend them to friends

AlwaysRightNeverWrong · 29/07/2014 20:05

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

I am currently breastfeeding. I have been suffering from thorasic back pain for over 20 months, for which I have had physiotherapy and medications prescribed. My back pain affects me everyday, although no always to the same extent.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

The patches were fiddly to apply, I had to asks husband to apply them due to the fact they would fold in on themselves and would be difficult to seperate. I found the material was too flimsy. The cooling sensation lasted over 3 hours, however on more than one occasion my patch fell off.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?

Yes, I was really surprised by this. I had never considered cold would ease my symptoms. I found this had better results than heat patches I had been using.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

Possibly, however I would prefer them to be easier to apply, or I would only use them whilst at home, with limited activity.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?

Yes.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?

Yes, given the relief I got from the patches
I would be willing to pay for them, but I would only use them when the pain was at its highest levels.

melodycat · 30/07/2014 08:05

Q1 I am currently breastfeeding a 13 month old and suffer with intermittent upper and lower back pain.

Q2 fairly easy to apply although tricky on upper back, it folded over itself. I only kept the patch on for 30 mins as I found the sensation really unpleasant (burning/tingly sensation). It started working after about 5 mins.

Q3 yes did offer some relief (probably by distraction!)

Q4 no I would not buy them again as I found them very uncomfortable/unpleasant to wear.

Q5 I would mention them to friends who might find them useful but wpuldnt personally recommend them

Q6 I think they are quite expensive for regular use, but as an occasional use the value would be fair

Thanks

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

I'm breastfeeding my toddler; with lifting/carrying him and general activity, i usually wake up with pain in my lower back, that tends to radiate all over by back.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

I didn't find the application too bad - I bent over to apply the patch to my lower back and found it worked fine. It didn't quite last the time it should, I guess due to clothes rubbing on it as I went about my daily routine.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?

It helped in a very localised fashion, but the back pain I have tends to radiate, so it didn't completely eliminate the problem.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

I think for a vey localised issue e.g. distinct muscle sprain/pull, they would be very effective and I would maybe use in the future. For a larger area I would probably use a gel or rub, if I didn't want to use oral painkillers.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?

I might mention them as an option, but not recommend them in a 'wow, these are a great solution' way.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?

I think they are expensive for what they are; I have used the Deep Freeze gel before and would continue to use that before the patches.

Beagadorsrock · 30/07/2014 11:51

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
Breastfeeding a (now)7 month old. Have back pain - he's quite chunky! - and also joint pain, first in thumbs and wrists from how I was holding him, now more in the knees. All of them make me feel like a creaking old hag and certainly affect my enjoyment of my baby.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

Fiddly, especially on the back. Even in easily reachable areas such as the deltoid or the small of the back it felt like it would not stay put for long and so I was already tense rather than relaxed! The place where I was least distracted by application issues to actually notice the cooling effect was the knee, and even then it felt like it was bunching long before it actually did. I did crave plaster-type "wings" to make sure it stayed on.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
I could definitely feel the patch rather than the pain. Two caveats: on the back my pain is so diffuse that a single patch just made me feel the 'uncovered 'bits more. And on the knee, the pain came back as soon as the patch came off (a few hours) so it did relieve the pain, but only temporarily.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

If I were desperate for something to relieve the pain and I couldn't take NSAIDs yes, though my preference would always be for a mythical paracetamol gel (there isn't one is there?)

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?
Yes, if only for temporary respite and/or to distract one long enough to 'forget' that there is pain

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?
I would never buy the single at that price, and the 4-pack also seems a bit steep considering the lack of sticking plaster.

JustCallMeBaldrick · 30/07/2014 12:27

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
Breastfeeding a 5-month old, and I suffer frequently from lower back pain.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
I found it easy to apply, and could feel the effects for a couple of hours.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
It did, although not as effectively as a hot-water bottle...

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?
I will continue to use the patches I have, but I don't think I'd buy them again.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?
I would.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?
It seems very expensive for something that is for one use.

idleweiss · 30/07/2014 21:18

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
I am breast feeding my 9 week old son and also have two DDs aged 2&4yrs. I have been suffering from terrible back pain which gets really bad if I sit feeding for too long, bend down, or pick up my youngest girl or their toys, etc, and sometimes the pain stops me in my tracks. It always seems to be there niggling away!

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
The patch is very easy to apply, just take off the backing and stick it on. It is easy to adjust as well. I found the cooling effect carried on after I took off the patch, so the relief lasted a good few hours.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
It did, the cooling effect was quite pleasant and eased the pain so tasks were more manageable.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?
Yes I think I would.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?
Yes, I have already recommended them to a pregnant friend and to my mum.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?
I consider them to be a little pricey, but then so are a lot of branded painkillers. I would like it if they were a little cheaper or in bigger value packs.

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

I am 31+5 weeks pregnant and like most of mums to be experience not very pleasant pain in my lower back, especially after I walk a lot.My back pain was awful before I tried couple of exercises on gym boll which physiotherapist recommended it helped a lot. However time from time even after gym ball exercises my back still hurts and than I use Deep freeze pain relief patches.I wanted to try them because like most of mums I try to avoid to take any medicine while I am pregnant.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
It was easy to apply, hassle free and very fast. Patch lasted more than 2 hours which was great, especially in warm weather, so soothing, refreshing and pain removing!

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
Yes, definitely it worked wonders when my gym ball was unefective. It is great to enjoy your life, pregnancy and don't feel pain and at the same time it is lovely to feel myself guilt free as I am not taking paracetamol.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

Yes, definitely.I think Deep Freeze pain relief cold patches are fantastic products, which works and makes life pain free and much more easier.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?

Definitely I will recommend them to a friends and relatives as this is safe to get rid of pain.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?

To be honest I don't mind to pay this price as I didn't use patches everyday and even they are pricey at the same time they are still affordable.
For those who are in more pain that price would be too high and that would be great that there would be bulk pack options, more you buy-cheaper you get them.

LostInTheTriangle · 31/07/2014 10:57
  1. I am breast feeding a 7 month old baby. I wanted to try the patches because I am keen to try alternatives to taking painkillers for muscular aches and pains. I often co sleep and wake up finding I have slept awkwardly so get aches and pains in my back and shoulders. When this happens I struggle to complete daily tasks such as dog walking and chores.
  2. Because of the location of my pain (left shoulder blade/upper back) I asked my husband to apply the patch. I can see the patches would be easy to apply to more conveniently located areas that are often painful in pregnancy such as hips and lower back.
  3. Yes one morning having slept awkwardly, I applied a patch and felt good relief in the painful area of my shoulder. I preferred the patch to an ice pack or heat pack.
  4. Yes I would continue to use the patches and purchase them, but not for every day use if I had a consistently painful muscular pain (see below).
  5. Yes I would purchase the patches because they are effective, mine is not a constant pain, they are practical for travelling and convenient to pack in a suitcase. I wouldn't use them on a daily basis as the cost would mount up - in this scenario an ice pack is more practical and cost effective.
BelleOfTheBoys · 31/07/2014 12:39

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

I'm breastfeeding DS2 who is now 11months old (and blooming heavy!). I have always had muscular pain and mechanical back issues but these were made worse in pregnancy and now I am breastfeeding and lifting a heavy baby and 3yo DS1 all day I am suffering more, especially in the evenings when I imagine my muscles are just giving up. More than once DH has had to push me or partially carry me up the stairs.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

Not easy to apply at all. Very super sticky and very difficult to twist round to apply to my own back. Especially as 9fairly obviously) I have a bad back so twisting to that weird angle, while trying to flip this sticky patch over and not fold it in on itself...sigh. Tricky stuff.

I think I could feel the effects clearly for a couple of hours. After about an hour, I needed to rub the patch to feel any noticeable cold.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?

I wouldn't say it relieved the pain as such, although the cold sensation was soothing and pleasant. I liked them better when I used them around my ribcage area (as I also ache there) and I felt they had a nice soothing feeling, if not actual pain relief. I also liked to use the patch at night - when I could lie on my back the soothing was lovely.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

No, I don't think I would. They were so sticky and fiddly that I don't think the relief was worth the hassle.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?

Maybe a pregnant friend might like them more than I did. But I have no idea how I would have twisted round to get them on when I was heavily pregnant. One for asking someone else to apply, I think.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?

It's not too bad, but if you like them or they were your only pain relief option they are very expensive compared to, say, a cold pack you could reuse. They are a LOT more expensive than a pack of paracetamol.

vj32 · 31/07/2014 21:42

Not sure if I have done this already... so sorry if it is a repeat!
Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
I am breastfeeding a 4 month old and have a 3 year old, so do lots of lifting!

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
Quite difficult to apply to my upper back, which is where I get pain from breastfeeding. It might help if the patch was a bit thicker.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
Yes, it eased pain for a while.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain? I will use all the free ones but I think heat patches or a hot water bottle works better on muscle pain.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers? I may do, I think its a good option to have.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money? No, however I might do the same as I did when I used heat patches - buy them up when they are on offer!

Suzanne73 · 01/08/2014 05:59

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

i am breastfeeding and have been suffering with back pain during pregnancy as well. I also feel that after 2 failed attempts at a spinal which was needed due to emergency c-section also aggravated the problem. I can never get comfortable at night and sitting and feeding the baby is painful and obviously the bending and lifting

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
after the first few applications I found it easier to apply it although depending on what I was wearing sometimes it would peel off but only at the edges. I felt it lasted a good few hours and after I had taken it off was when I really noticed the cold effect

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
yes most definitely as after wearing daily for a week I only use the sporadically and there has been a huge difference for me in the back pain. I also used one on my knee as I walk a lot and my knee was a bit stiff and that really helped too. I also liked the smell

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?
i would highly recommend them to friends and family and have done so
Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?
as I have trialled them I know they work or they did for me so I would be comfortable paying that price for them. Perhaps a money back offer might be an incentive to try

Suzanne73 · 01/08/2014 06:01

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?
i would use them again. I am moving house today so I have a couple that I have saved just in case

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 01/08/2014 07:04

Why is this in baby names?

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 01/08/2014 07:05

Hmm right well when I opened this thread it was in baby names, honest. Now I'm in product tests. Something weird going on.

KMartin01 · 01/08/2014 13:06

Q1 I'm 22 weeks pregnant and wanted to try the patches as I have suffered with back pain previously and thought pregnancy will exacerbate this.

Q2 It wasn't possible for me to put on myself, so boyfriend put them on. Just under my shoulder blades, one on each side. I couldn't feel anything at first but then the coolness and tingling started which was nice. I left them on for about an hour.

Q3 I wasn't in massive pain to begin with, just a niggling ache and I think the patched did ease this.

Q4 I might buy them again, although they did come unstuck to me and stuck to the back of my t-shirt so much so that I thought boyfriend had put them on the wrong way - but he hadn't!

Q5 I'd probably recommend them as an option.

Q5 I think they're definitely overpriced.

Midwifeonrun · 01/08/2014 13:33

Q1. Pregnant. I suffer from pelvic girdle pain which gives me back and pubic pain particularly when laying down and turning over.
Q2. The patch is easy to use but can be difficult to apply to back without it folding on itself.
Q3. Yes it did help with pain to some degree.
Q4. I will continue to use the patches while I still have sme left. I would suggest as an option to friends who didn't want to take paracetamol.
Q5. I think they are costly given that similar effect could be achieved more cheaply.

BlueC2 · 01/08/2014 13:49

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
Was pregnant, now breastfeeding. During pregnancy I was getting lower back pain due to stress put on my body by baby bump. This has eased since giving birth but I do still get some back pain from being in awkward positions to feed my baby.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
The patch was a bit fiddly to apply as difficult to get on my back but ok once in position.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
I wasn't in extreme pain to start with but the patch did ease the pain and coolness was nice

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?
Possibly.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?
I have given one of the patches to my step dad to try as he suffers with sciatica and doesn't like to always resort to painkillers. I would recommend to other mums.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?
If you needed to use them regularly then this would work out quite expensive.

cupofteaplease · 01/08/2014 13:54

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
When I applied for the product test, I was pregnant with my fourth child. I was suffering from very painful sacroiliac joint disfunction. I had had some Physio which wasn't proving very effective. Working as a primary school teacher means that I was bending, crouching and lifting all day which all aggravated my condition and by the end of the day, I was close to tears some days.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
I found it quite difficult to apply because they were floppy! They lasted about half an hour if I remember correctly?

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains? Not especially, I found the cold almost burning which gave me a different sensation to think about!

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?
Yes I would, because anything is worth a go when you are in pain with your back.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?
Personally, no. But that is only because I didn't find much relief in them. But I would still suggest other people might want to try them as I can see their potential. If effective, I would definitely pay that amount.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/08/2014 13:56

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.
I'm now 35 weeks pregnant and have long standing low back problems that have been aggravated by pregnancy. I avoid painkillers generally and especially now I'm pregnant. I'm a big believer in the power of a cold compress as my physiotherapist often recommends it for various problems.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?
It was easy to apply, even to the small of my back where I couldn't see what I was doing. It adhered for plenty of time without any problems and was easy to remove.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?
Not much. I was really disappointed. I felt the cold wasn't cold enough.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain? Unlikely, I'd stick to a cold compress wherever possible, would only use these if desperate because although convenient I didn't find the effects warranted the use.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers? With hesitation. It's better than nothing, but not brilliant.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost £1.65 for a single patch and £5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money? Compared to a facecloth and cold water, it's pretty pricey. I think it's affordable for occasional use but would be tough for chronic conditions.

Q1 Please say whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding etc and why you wanted to try the patches. Please describe how the muscular aches and pain affect you on a day to day basis.

I am 23weeks pregnant and suffer from both lumbar & thoracic back pain resulting from a car accident which is aggrivated by the pregnancy. It's a dull ache most days, and much worse after sitting or standing for periods of time.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

The application was easy, though I found in the warm weather (and thus sweaty) the patches didn't stick very well & fell off quite quickly. By bump band helped keep it in place on my lower back but wasn't a great solution.

Q3 Did the patch help relieve muscular aches and pains?

Yes, it was a strange sensation, especially in the summer! But did work.

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

If they were cheaper, or for very short term use.

Q5 Would you recommend them to friends or relations who are also pregnant or breastfeeding or unable to take oral painkillers?

Yes,but would warn about the cost.

Q5 Deep Freeze Pain Relief Cold Patches cost 1.65 for a single patch and 5.49 for a 4 pack: do you consider this to be good value for money?

No. Paracetamol is cheaper and longer lasting.
