Hi not received the patches yet. I was pregnant when I applied but have just had a miscarriage .

I still suffer with backache though thanks to an old injury so while I can take oral painkillers again I'm still looking forward to trying these again (and will be trying to conceive again as soon as we can).

Q1. Not pregnant but have been suffering with chronic pain since pregnancy

Q2. Easy to apply, but found the first time I got my dh to apply them on my shoulders they stayed on for 3 hrs. When I applied them myself on my shoulders and on my back one of the shoulder ones got stuck to my top and came off and the back one rolled off with in 30mins.

Q3. The patch did seem to help but I had to take painkillers as well to function as I was in a lot of pain so may have defeated the purpose

Q4. I might use them if I didn't want to take painkillers if I was pregnant as I think they do help

Q5.they do seem quite expensive but as they work I may feel differently if I was pregnant as wouldn't be able or want to take pain killers.

I am 30 weeks pregnant at the moment and due to sleeping awkwardly I have developed neck and shoulder ache. This twinges constantly and makes me miserable.

That patch was easy to apply but due to the position of the ache I needed my husband to help me a bit. The coolness lasted about 4 hours but the patch curled up or moved or fell off quite a lot.

I found the patch very soothing and whilst it did not fully get rid of the pain it soothed a lot and was nice in the hot weather!

Yes I would continue using them to sooth pain.

Yes I would recommend them, both to people who could take painkillers and ones that can as they provide an immediate relief.

I am not pregnant but I am breastfeeding. Most of my pain comes from an old shoulder injury which flares up all the time. I also get lower back pain, again from an old injury. I normally see a physio for both, but she is off on maternity leave at the minute so everything has got a bit sore recently.
Also my toddler is made of Dark Matter so lifting and carting him about does not help things.
I usually have at least one niggly pain in the shoulder or back.

I struggled to apply it to the back of my shoulder myself as it is a bit floppy and sticky. Got DH to do it for me. Initially the patch was very cold which I found a bit unpleasant as I am a Big Jessie. It lasted a good couple of hours.
I was pleased that they could be applied directly to skin as the heat patches which have to go on clothes annoy me.

Yes, definitely. It was very effective.

I would. I find the cold patches are more effective for pain relief than similar heat patches.

Yes I would.

It's a bit expensive, but then I tend to only use the patches when things flare up badly so it's not like I would be using a few a day. It is no more expensive than the heat patch, but slightly more expensive than the deep freeze spray. I do think it has more staying power than the spray.

Overall I found the patches very useful, particularly for my dodgy shoulder (I dislocated it when it was run over by a horse). More portable than an icepack, better for the liver than paracetamol.

It does not want to stay stuck on a joint and I needed to provide additional support for it - usually using a sock or wrap. It isn't hard to apply, but it doesn't stay where it is applied.

I am breastfeeding. I usually have a niggly sore back/shoulder partly due to a desk job and partly due to my heavy DS wanting to be carried. The pain isn't bad enough to send me to the doctors, it's just a background ache I put up with

Hi. Breast feeding a six month old. I'm sure my posture is awful - nasty pain behind right shoulder blade and lower back pain. I absolutely don't want to take medication, I'm sure lots are fine, just don't like taking pills etc.

Surprisingly easy to apply and found it stuck really well for me. My only helpful advice would be that you need a tab on the patch to help pull off the backing. I found I struggled a little to separate the two sheets.

Yes it did. It got cold very very quickly which then settled and then the menthol kicked in around ten minutes in. I actually found it unpleasant to start with and was going to say ramp back on the menthol but it last only five mins and then calmed down to a more helpful tolerable level. Sadly the patch effect did not last beyond a day, but I reckon I do need to work on posture too!

Q4 Do you think you'd buy the patches again or continue to use them if you had a similar muscular ache or pain?

Yes I would use them again. I also think they would en useful in acute sporting situations.

Yes, my mil is up with back pain and isn't getting full relief from pills so I will recommend these.

I'm 8 months pregnant and have near constant back ache due to not being able to sit or lie down comfortably.

It was relatively easy to apply in terms of getting it stuck on initially but the stickiness really didn't last long and it didn't stay down so it rucked up a lot, stuck to clothes etc.

Honestly, it was hard to tell. The patches are very small given that they're meant to treat back ache and I was having to use 3 or 4 at a time to cover the areas that hurt. The coolness feels nice but it doesn't seem to last very long so I kept having to press them into my back to try and 'reactivate' them. There's no long-lasting relief from them but they do feel good while they're on and while they're still feeling cool.

I don't know. I might if I had a very specifically placed ache but for more general back ache over a large area I think they're too small and not effective enough.

I'd recommend them alongside paracetamol as a nice way to help you relax.

Not at all. In fact I think that's shockingly expensive given that I was having to use 3 or 4 at a time to see any real effect. Paracetamol is 16p a box!

Wanted to try the patches as both I and my husband suffer from bad backs especially early am and, in my husbands case when he has been standing a while.

Q2 Please describe the application of the patch- how was it to apply? How long did it last?

The patch was fairly tricky to use in that the peel off section was quite hard to find the edge of and if not careful, when you do peel of the non sticky panel, the patch can fold up onto its self and stick.


In my husbands case it would not stick for long to his lower back due to the hair I suppose, but he isnt overly hairy, so thats not good.

No ....sorry! We couldnt feel any "cold" apart from when it first went on

Q1: Expecting. I wanted something to relieve my constant aching back pain. I had an accident at work some 8 years ago and it has left my back in pretty bad shape. I'm on all sorts of tablets for the pain, but I wanted something that would help me ease the pain, without the tablets.

Q2 Very easy to apply, but often fell off. Should be stickier in my opinion. Lasted about 5-6 hours with me.

Q3 Yes, it felt like an icy cold feeling against your skin and had a tingly sensation. This eased my pain and made me forget about it.

Q4 I think these are great and will certainly buy some more.

Q5 Yes, my mother used one for her leg pain.

Q1 I am 32 weeks pregnant and have lower back and right lower leg pain - which I think is a pulled muscle - but is causing me to limp when walking.

Q2 I haven't tried the patch on my back - couldn't work out how to get it on in the right place and that tends to settle when I sit/lie down. I have been using it on my leg as that seems to be a constant pain even at night. I found the patches worked during the day but overnight - perhaps from my movements I would find the patch rolled up in the bed.

Q4 I would use them again - useful during the day for my leg especially when I am at work and not necessarily able to rest. But probably not if I was at home.

I am breastfeeding a 13 month old, I wanted to try the patches because I have been getting lower back pain since the spinal and also I get cramps in my shoulder when feeding my baby. I also have a particularly sensitive stomach which can no longer tolerate ibuprofen or any NSAIDS. When my lower back or shoulders cramp it is incredible painful and affects what I can do – for example when my shoulder cramps I struggle driving as turning my head is painful, and I have had to take time off work as I was struggling to walk when my lower back last went into spasm – the new guidelines state that applying cold immediately for the first 24 hrs is best practise for a fast recovery.

I think the patch was a bit tricky to apply the first time I used it, maybe something like you have on a plaster would be a good idea. Second time applying I had figured a better way. It lasted at least the 3 hours stated and was fantastic, in fact I had to but a cardigan on over my shoulders when using one on the side of my neck as it made me feel that cold. It wasn’t unpleasant, but very effective especially compared to applying frozen peas in a tea towel.

I am 6 1/2 months pregnant with achy back due to scoliosis (curved spine). Wanted to try these as already taking a few too many tablets than would like due to hyperemesis, plus the clexane for previous dvt, drug free is good. Oh and had a fall and grazed knee and ended up v swollen so the patches proved a godsend in terms of timing.

Q2 applied in evenings when sat down on knee and lowe back / right side. For at least an hour each.

Q3 Yes definitely also helped with fluid on knee after bruise was fading.

Q4 Yes definitely. Stay cold longer than cold flannels and ice packs I'd used before.

I am currently breastfeeding my 10 month old and have just found i am 10 weeks pregnant too. I wanted to try the patches as due to breastfeeding i cant really take painkillers and I suffer a lot from lower back pain sometimes i struggle to get up and down due to the pain in my back especially when out and about at baby groups where all the play is floor based with my baby. Im the mum that take 10 minutes trying to straighten up when she stands.

It was a bit tricky to apply by myself to my lower back there is most definitely a knack to it you have to be quick before it folds in on its self or before it tries to make a jump for the floor. The cooling sensation lasted a good couple of hours and it stayed stuck.

Yes it did it was an odd sensation at first when it began working but after a while when the pain had ease i forgot all about it.

I would definitely use them again when i couldnt use painkillers or for when i need to be up and about looking after then children.

I do think for a single patch it is more expensive than the usual painkillers that i can take when not pregnant however the 4 pack seems to offer much more value for money
