This thread is for the 22 Mumsnetters who got to try out the TASSIMO Vivy.

Here’s what TASSIMO say, “Whether you’re a Latte Lover or a Cappuccino Connoisseur, TASSIMO has all your favourite drinks from the brands you love. Imagine having Costa, Cadbury, Kenco, Twinings, Milka, Carte Noire and Suchard on your doorstep!

The new TASSIMO Vivy is the most compact machine in the range and is the perfect addition to any kitchen. Designed for those that love coffee shop quality hot drinks at home but need something a little more discreet the Vivy allows for those with smaller kitchens to enjoy the TASSIMO drinks they love.”

Non-testers: How do you like to enjoy your favourite hot drink? Are you a caffeine addict who loves a cup of coffee in the morning? Or maybe you prefer to make yourself a perfect hot chocolate at home in the evenings? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their response on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNers will win their own TASSIMO Vivy!

Testers: It would be great if you could answer the questions below. If you have any other comments please feel free to add these too:

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?
  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?
  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?
  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?
  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks,
MNHQ

Tester here :)
Finally managed to get hold of my machine today from the courier company by driving to the local depot and waiting ages while they looked for the 2nd box - anyway on with the test.......

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?

I like the look of the machine although it is actually not as compact as I expected. It was easy to assemble and use, although I hated the pictures and would have liked some written instructions. I haven't looked online for instructions as to how to get a fuller cup yet. I also think that the button panel is quite flimsy and wonder how long it will last.

  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?

I have the same 4 that the other testers have had - the Kenco Medium Roast is a nice strong coffee. The Tea even though it was my usual brand was not really to my liking it was stronger than I would usually make it, not very big or particularly hot, I don't think I will use it for tea again. The hot chocolate tasted watery, I didn't add any milk to it and I couldn't drink it. The strong coffee was passable but nowhere near as good as a Nespresso espresso.

I have had the Costa Latte and a decaf Cafe Hag at my friends and really liked them so I hope they taste as good through this machine.

  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?

I managed to follow the picture instructions although it wasn't as straightforward as it could have been to set up. Making the drinks is really simple but only with the standard amount if liquid as I couldn't see any instructions for varying it,

  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why

Yes for quick cups of coffee once I have mastered the water amount, and I will let my DC try the hot chocolate. I will be buying some Costa products next time I'm shopping to try too. Not for tea though.

  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Maybe, I will but I won't be rushing to shout about how wonderful it is or inviting everyone round for a coffee morning. However I will happily make any coffee loving guests drinks and let them draw their own conclusions.

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?
OMG I don't think I have ever been so excited to be selected before! Yes I love it! Got very excited looking at all the drinks I have yet to try. Its the variety that excites me I think, and there are some on the website I've never heard of before. I like the size of it too - doesn't take up too much space on the work top. I will fully make up my mind when I know how long it lasts without breaking though
  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?
I tried all the ones that came free with the product test. The Carte Noire and the Suchards are nice (I was impressed with how un-clumpy the hot chocolate was, if that makes sense). I was impressed with how nice the tea was, although I'm not sure if I'll bother to use it for a simple English breakfast tea - I will probably try some of the more exotic teas though. I was a bit unimpressed with the Kenco coffee (I am unimpressed with Kenco instant too - I'd like to see some Nescafe brands available instead) but we found some Costa ones on offer in Tescos and they rock. So the Costa Latte is my favourite overall - don't think you can tell the difference from the coffee shop product. I'm keen to try the Cadburys hot chocolate and some of the more novel teas from the website.
  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?
It's really easy - but the instructions make it hard!!!! Sorry but the pictures are useless. It took me some time to figure it out, and when I did it was quite simple!
  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, its staying - I have lots more to try yet. I'll probably go to more occassional use though due to cost.
  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Definitely good to recommend for those with little space - but I'll wait and see if it breaks first!

Non-tester here: I like a good strong black ("like my men" a couldn't resist the Airplane quote!) coffee first thing in the morning, and after that maybe a hot Ribena on a winters afternoon. dH on the other hand drinks copious cups of tea, & coffee. We've been together 24 years and I still can't predict what he will choose to drink. DS loves hot chocolate.

Would have loved to have tested this.

Nigglenaggle · 08/04/2014 20:53

Ooh and I didn't mention the excitement when I saw you can get costa caramel lattes!!!

I'm a coffee addict. Though I'd say my absolute perfect cup would be a flat white with a shot of hazelnut syrup. Oh yes.

ILoveMyCaravan · 08/04/2014 21:33

Non-tester

My favourite drink is de-caff Tea (Yorkshire brand) is by far the best and really can't tell the difference.

Also love a bedtime hot choc, has to be made with full fat milk and proper cocoa powder with barely half-a-teaspoon of sugar.

DoItTooJulia · 08/04/2014 21:36

Non tester. My favourite hot drink is a strong black coffee.

I desperately wanted to be selected for this trial, I've ummed and aaaahed about a coffee machine for ages, and I fancied the look of this one. It's a lot of money to spend though if you don't like it.

Judging by the feedback though, I don't think I wouldn't like it!!

starfishmummy · 08/04/2014 21:44

Non tester Sad.

I like a coffee. Latte, Espresso, Macchiato, cappuccino or even instant.

stephgr · 09/04/2014 00:00

I need at least 2 cups of strong black coffee to wake me up. I then move on to decaff for the rest of the day. My favourite treat is a coffee mocha but I only have one in a coffee shop. At home, in the evenings I love hot chocolate with a dollop of whipped cream but I don't often have one because I just don't seem to have time.

meerschweinchen · 09/04/2014 00:05

Non tester. Coffee is my favourite drink. I definitely need one in the morning. I tend to drink tea in the evening though.

If I'm at a coffee shop I normally choose cappuccino or caramel latte.

Stripytop · 09/04/2014 00:16

Non-testers: How do you like to enjoy your favourite hot drink?
Well, where do I start? I am a hot drink tart! I start the morning with hot water and lemon. First cup of proper tea when I get to work. peppermint or chamomile tea the rest of the day. Unless... I have cake. Have to have normal tea with cake. Or if it's biscuits, I'll have coffee. Usually a standard instant decaf, but ideally (if in a café), a halfshot-skinny-decaf-latte. Then before bed a Horlicks or hot chocolate with melty marshmallows on the top

I also like hot oxo, and won't say not to a hot ribena.

MontysMum22 · 09/04/2014 05:04

Non tester. I would definitely consider buying one of these when I have the money to spare based upon the mostly good feedback from testers here only possible thing that might put me off is either the cost of the machine or the discs which I don't think was noted anywhere on his forum.

MontysMum22 · 09/04/2014 05:13

I am largely a tea drinker although I love hot chocolate as a treat now and again in terms of what I go for in a coffee shop I often go for the Chai tea latte don't know if this is available to get in the discs?. However we do have two very keen coffee drinkers in my family and the more special the coffee the better as fas as they are concerned my husband is particularly fond of expresso.

rupert23 · 09/04/2014 15:43

love a latte in the mornings but hot chocolate with cream on top is my favourite for a cold winters evening

mjmooseface · 09/04/2014 16:08

Non-Tester:

My favourite hot drink is definitely hot chocolate! I don't care what brand but obviously Cadbury is the best! I have a hot chocolate every morning (even in the summer!) with a bit of marmite on toast. Or, in the evening, I make one where I melt the chocolate powder on top of a mug of milk in the microwave and mix it all in, mmmmm!

themitch21 I literally just learned what a mocha is from your post! I have never tried a coffee yet so if you're telling me a mocha has the taste of a hot chocolate, I am all for trying it!!

I also like mixing vimto or a blackcurrant drink with hot water but I've not had one of those for a while now!

mjmooseface · 09/04/2014 16:10

There was once this huge book shop called Borders and it had a cafe upstairs and we had a brief new years day tradition of going to get a book from the book shop and then going upstairs for a hot chocolate. They were massive! And came with cream on top and marshmellows... Ah, good times! :D

StampyIsMyBoyfriend · 09/04/2014 17:30

Non tester, hot chocolate for me. The perfect comfort in a cup! For breakfast, afternoon pick me up or evening warmer.

CheeseTMouse · 09/04/2014 19:52

Non-tester - a lovely cup of Earl Grey tea made with leaf tea and some milk. Lovely! Otherwise I quite like to clutch a takeaway latte as I slowly try to begin to function at work/after my baby has been up at night.

kelzw84 · 09/04/2014 20:36

Non Tester - My favourite hot drink has to be hotchocolate. perfect any time of the day.
Lovely with whipped cream, marshmallows and a flake or twirl yummmy

  • What did you think of the TASSIMO Vivy overall? Did you like it? If so, why? If not, why not?
Just not as easy as instant coffee, barely easier than ground. A right pain in the posterior when making drinks for several people. It looks very plastic and delicate, and appears to be a toddler magnet. Id like it better if DP didn't mention the words 'Eco disaster' and 'waste of resources' every time I used it.
  • Which T-DISCS did you try? Which one was your favourite?
Breakfast tea, kenco coffee, cafe creme and suchards hot chocolate. The tea smells foul, couldn't bring myself to try it, but a regular tea drinker said it was 'OK' I liked both coffees, but not in preference to my usual cafetiere. DS liked the Hot Chocolate but I felt it was very poor and not worth the expense of buying discs.
  • How easy or difficult did you find the machine to use?
For black coffee for one it was no more complicated than instant coffee. Except when one disc must've split and filled everything with coffee grains. For making several drinks together (4 or more) it became a regular PITA.
  • Do you think you’ll continue to use the TASSIMO Vivy in future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Having looked at the website I would probably consider buying more discs should they be on offer.
  • Would you recommend the TASSIMO Vivy to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
No I don't feel that it justifies the expense. I've tried giving it away & no one was convinced, I got a text from my SIL offering me hers so I guess I'm not the only one a bit underwhelmed by it.
tinypumpkin · 10/04/2014 09:49

I am a caffeine addict, most definitely! I do love a chai latte. A complete indulgence buy I love them.

Rigbyroo · 10/04/2014 09:58

Non tester: favourite hot drink at the moment is a vanilla chai latte. Not often I get to drink one hot though!

PickleMobile · 10/04/2014 15:49

One black mark for Tassimo, they use Yodel to deliver the TDisks. The fuckers returned my order to sender despite me arranging a re delivery. And they had it down as I refused it, but I wasn't in when they tried to deliver.

Tassimo customer service is ok though, they have reordered them for me. Got to wait another week though.

janekirk · 10/04/2014 18:22

The smell of fresh coffee is just as important as the actual drinking of it.
