We've been asked by the team at the British Red Cross to find 250 MNers to download and review their Baby and Child First Aid app.

The app is available free of charge on iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPad or Google Play for Android devices.

For this product test we are looking for parents of children aged from birth up to 5 years old. Testers will also need to have a smartphone or tablet which is an Android or Apple device.

British Red Cross say "Our FREE app is packed full of essential first aid learning for parents. It includes videos, quick tips and self test sections to test your knowledge. App users can search for their nearest accident and emergency department anywhere in the UK using the hospital finder. There is a useful section on preparing for first aid incidences and a medical records section to record childrens medication and allergies. The Baby and Child First Aid app has been designed and developed for parents and carers of children to make learning first aid easy and accessible.

The app is primarily a way of learning first aid at your leisure before an emergency situation arises. However it does also include a section for use in an emergency."

The idea with this test is that we select our testers, who then download the free app we'd then like you to share it with friends, family and/or neighbours and to report back on what you think on a thread on Mumsnet. We'll also be asking you to add a review on the iTunes App Store or Google Play for Android and on the MN app review pages

All MNers who take part and who add feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a first aid learning pack from the British Red Cross (consisting of two Baby and Child First Aid course gift cards worth up to £120, a first aid manual worth £10.99 and a compact first aid kit worth £10.99.

If you have a child aged 0-5 and a smartphone/tablet and would like to take part please add your details here

Thanks and good luck MNHQ

PS: Everyone is of course welcome to download the app even if they dont review!

PPS: British Red Cross always like to hear about how you have used the first aid skills that you have learned or situations that have inspired you to learn first aid. Please email your story to [email protected] titled 'My story'

Thanks to everyone who has applied so far....I asked the Red Cross about the download queries and they say;

"38MB is admittedly fairly chunky, but the app does include all the data it needs to work offline and won't download massive amount of downloads after it installs like other apps can do. If users download it over WiFi it will install in no time at all. And over 3g it shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

The reason the app asks for permission to access users' contacts is so they can add emergency contact details in the record finder. Their contacts aren't shared with us at all."

Thanks

And also
Spirael The app is is suitable for newborns. The first aid app is specifically for birth to puberty.

Barbiesbeaver - you asked if the app would work on a Nomia Lumia phone. Red Cross say "This phone operates on the Windows system. The Baby and Child First Aid app is not currently available for Windows. Sorry"
