As part of our partnership with B&Q, we're looking for 20 MNers who have an unloved room in their home that they'd like to revamp. Do you have a sad and tired spare room you'd like to make over? A living room in need of a spruce? Or a bedroom crying out for redecoration?

Here is what B&Q say about their unloved rooms initiative: "This summer, we're launching a new initiative to help Britain say goodbye to its unloved rooms. Most homes have one - a spare room that's more of a cupboard, a tired and broken bathroom from a different era, even an overgrown garden that's become a jungle. With our vast range of home decoration products and simple expert advice, we want more people to see that making a big difference doesn't need to be difficult or expensive. Whether it's picking the right look, choosing the right products, at the right price or simply finding out how to make it happen, we're making sure you'll find it all under one roof at B&Q."

If you're selected to take part you'll:

  • Be sent a £300 B&Q gift card to spend as you wish on materials to re-decorate/revamp your unloved room
  • Need to be available to complete your room revamp between 14 May and 3 June
  • Write feedback on how your revamp is going during that time on a thread on MN
  • Need to send in photos to MNHQ of before, during and after the revamp

10 of the 20 participants will also need to film their revamp process on their smartphone (via an app we'll need you to download). Those MNers will receive an additional £25 B&Q gift card as a thank you for doing filming.

B&Q would also like participants to attend a You Can Do It class in store if possible - this would be free of charge but they're only available in certain stores. This isn't essential to taking part but please indicate on the sign up form (link below) which store you could get to if you would like to attend.

If you'd like to take part, please sign up here.

Any queries, please post them here.

Thanks and good luck

Done - I didn't get a text box for question 7 though! However if I had, I would have put that the manky old wallpaper and carpets need to go, and the saggy wardrobes need ripping out! Then nice shiny new things need to replace them. :)

Signed up for this a couple of days ago and can't wait to find out who's been picked :) Hoping I get chosen as it's my 15 year old son I want to do a room up for as he's been sharing with his brothers aged 10 and 7 and always had a "make do" bed furniture. This would be a fantastic opportunity for him to get involved as he has aspergers and it's been hard having him sharing with his brothers but now he's got a potential opportunity to help create his own living space where he can chill out in peace and quiet without his little brothers sharing the room.

Can't wait to find out, just hope i have a little bit of good luck our way :) it would be fantastic to give him his own space that he can chill and relax in peace and not get disturbed :)

Ive picked my garden and I would:

Paint the shed as its a bit tatty
Put up some lovely hanging baskets on the shed.
Sort out the side bed of the garden which is sunken due to 10 years of never having been loved or cared for....I filled loads of black bags with rubbish from the garden when I moved in.
Put in some pretty plants and make a really nice part of the garden for sitting in.
Id also sort out a patch for DS who is autistic but LOVES gardening.

All this is longer term planning but could be done quickly if I had the money. If I don't get picked it will still get done...just more slowly :)

Right, Grin

i've uploaded some photos of the last project we did, which was dds bedroom, with a woodland theme.
if anyone would like to take a please look feel free.!!
items used in this make over were

dulux babe paint matt
crown satinwood brilliant white
the paintwork was done before dd was born, so 6 years ago now.

previous to the woodland makeover, we had peppapig stickarounds, which i would also highly reccomend, as they stayed up really well, and came off no problem, with no damage at all.

quilt cover, ikea, £ 18
rug, ikea, £18
frames, ikea £2.50 each, so 7.50 for three
woodland stickers, ebay, 2 packs of, gltc also sell these stickers, but i had paypal funds from selling off old toys £14 per pack, we used two packs, so £28

wooden ladybirds, one pack of 50, ebay, £2
toadstool money box, asda £5
window garland, laura ashely £10

squirrel, hobbycraft, £5

so the costing for this project add up to around £93.50, which includes new bedding and a new rug pretty good i think.

our living room is a total mess. the last time it was decorated was 18 years ago! Shock
but we wouldn't have time to do it up - that's the main reason it's like this.
although, that voucher would make it a lot easier to make it a bit more practical (storage and stuff)

colette, thats very kind of you, thankyouSmile

yeah it does lend itself to play v well, dd has often got her head down on the rug, and i say what are you upto dd?, and she says getting a drink, while pretending to drink water from the stream.
or shes pretending to wash her face in it or something!

or i see her playing with her sylvanians, they are going foraging for mushrooms, or going camping somewhere...

one of my fav things though is the massive amount of storage under the bed.
dd likes the fact the bed is window height so she can nose out of the window!

Is it sad that I have already taken a before picture of a chest of drawers I'm planning to paint in my bedroom. Ever hopeful lol!!

Not really into shabby chic but I quite like pale grey furniture and shiny metal or crystal handles like this www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/04/paint-projects-link-party/

I think people are saying "I'm in" to indicate that they're on for it rather being chosen yet!

Might be wrong though....

I've just thought of one room that still hasn't been touched & could work for this amount of money & some DIY & it would mean our current room stuffed full of DHs junk would become my shiny new work room Grin

So on second thoughts - yes please - sign me up too
