This thread is for all the MNers who have been trying new Walkers Hoops and Crosses with their DCs. Below are some questions to get you started but please feel free to add other comments too.

Everyone who adds their feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £250 John Lewis voucher.

Q1 What do you think of the flavours you tried? Which one did you like the most? And how about your DC?

Q2 What do you think of the fact that Hoops and Crosses are a source of wholegrain? Would you choose them over another snack that isn't wholegrain?

Q3 What do your DC think of Hoops and Crosses as a snack? Would they be happy to get them in their lunch box?

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

  1. I quite liked the salt & vinegar but would have been better if they had been a bit more tart. I couldn't try the beef ones as they weren't suitable for vegetarians (a fact that escaped me when volunteering - sorry). DP & the dog like the beef (kept the dog quiet for ages licking he wrapper!
  2. I do like the whole grain idea. I'm not actually sure how nutritious this actually makes them as at the end of the day they are still a treat because they're crisps. But that might persuade people who like to virtuous to try them.
  3. Dd loved the beefy ones (like monster munch!). But felt (as did I) that the crisps get stuck to your teeth.

I reckon we would get them again if on offer

Q1 What do you think of the flavours you tried? Which one did you like the most? And how about your DC?

I like the beef flavour best - they remind me of Roast Beef Monster Munch - although for my taste I do think the flavour could be a little stronger. DS liked the Salt & Vinegar best (he is on a S&V flavour kick at the moment). DH like both - in fact he liked them so much he went out and got the Prawn Cocktail ones to try as well.

Q2 What do you think of the fact that Hoops and Crosses are a source of wholegrain? Would you choose them over another snack that isn't wholegrain?

Given these are crisps, I'm not too fussy about them being wholegrain. It is nice to have wholegrain in a 'naughty' form though.

Q3 What do your DC think of Hoops and Crosses as a snack? Would they be happy to get them in their lunch box?

DS liked them and would be happy to have them as part of lunch in future. I thought that the Hoops and Crosses were slightly less greasy than the nearest equivalent (Monster Munch) which is a plus from my point of view.

Q1 What do you think of the flavours you tried? Which one did you like the most? And how about your DC?
I liked the Roast Beef best, DH liked the Salt and Vinegar, DS says he can't decide as 'they were both just SO nice' and DD didn't like either flavour but thought Cheese and Onion might be good.

Q2 What do you think of the fact that Hoops and Crosses are a source of wholegrain? Would you choose them over another snack that isn't wholegrain?
I like the idea that they are wholegrain but usually only buy crisps and things when they are on offer so the wholegrain aspect won't play a huge role in my choice.

Q3 What do your DC think of Hoops and Crosses as a snack? Would they be happy to get them in their lunch box?
DS did get a packet in his lunchbox and was very pleased though possibly because I don't usually put that sort of thing in.

One thing that doesn't seem to have been mentioned is the shape - we have a checked table cloth and the first thing DH did was tip them out and try and beat DS(7) at Noughts and Crosses with the winner getting to eat what their opponent had on the 'board' :o

Well I think my boys must've been the only ones who didn't like them.

They didn't like either flavour (roast beef and salt and vinegar) feeling they "weren't right".

I liked the fact they were whole grain but the boys weren't convinced, not much street cred in it.

I wouldn't buy them as I still have some packets there, which is surprising as they love their crisps!

1.We tried both flavours but only liked roast beef, the flavour wasn't too strong and the texture was crunchy.
2.It is an added bonus and I would choose them over non wholegrain.
3.They are good for a snack, my son likes crisps so he would be happy to find them in his lunch box.

Q1- We all liked both flavours. Dd and ds1 preferred the beef, ds2 preferred the salt and vinegar, dh loved both! And me the salt and vinegar. (They were very nice) :-)
Q2- the fact that they are whole grain is a Serling point for me, (mainly for selfish reasons as I am loosing weight) I do like that it gives my dcs whole grain without them realising.
Q3- We definitely now will have them as a snack and for lunch boxes too.

My dcs all love monster munch and I have to admit they do taste like them, but 2 of my dcs played noughts nd crosses with these crisps so they found them fun as well as tasty! Added bons there.
Thank you mumsnet and walkers :-)

Q1 What do you think of the flavours you tried? Which one did you like the most? And how about your DC?
I liked the flavours, they were quite subtle and I didn't get an after taste like you do with some flavoured crisps. I liked both flavours. DCs enjoyed them too, they preferred the beef flavour.

Q2 What do you think of the fact that Hoops and Crosses are a source of wholegrain? Would you choose them over another snack that isn't wholegrain?
Yes a definate plus and yes I would choose over another snack. I would however prefer a low salt snack for my DCs

Q3 What do your DC think of Hoops and Crosses as a snack? Would they be happy to get them in their lunch box?
I liked them as a snack, however would not give them to DCs on a regular basis even though they did like them, due to salt content. They might like them in their lunch boxes, but I don't put crisps in their lunch box.

Thanks for the opportunity to try these out. Needless to say, they lasted about 3 days before being demolished!

Q1 What do you think of the flavours you tried? Which one did you like the most? And how about your DC? DH liked the beef ones, I preferred the S&V ones. DD didn't like either, I think she found DS the flavours too strong for her

Q2 What do you think of the fact that Hoops and Crosses are a source of wholegrain? Would you choose them over another snack that isn't wholegrain? I would! I really liked them as it felt you were getting a full bag of crisps, rather than a bag of air and crushed crisps. They were very filling, so the fact they're whole meal makes me feel a bit 'healthy' too. They are like a few folk have me tinned very like monster munch which re a fave of mine

Q3 What do your DC think of Hoops and Crosses as a snack? Would they be happy to get them in their lunch box? If they came in a ready salted flavour, or tomato favour then yes, but the current flavours don't work or us.

We tried the roast beef and salt & vinegar. I liked the beef best. My dd liked the beef and my ds liked the s&v best.

Loved the fact that they are wholegrain and would definitely choose them over non-wholegrain snacks.

Quote "we love them and think they are better than potato crisps, we would love to have them in our lunchboxes"

Since trying Hoops and Crosses my DC have asked me to buy them everytime I do my shopping. They said "They taste a bit like monster munch and are yummy".

Apologies for late feedback, we didn't get our crisps till last week as sorting office lost them, eventually turned up! Roast beef were a huge uccess both dd's and dh liked them although DD2 said they were some that were more tastier than others (think she means the flavouring agent had taken to some crisps more than others) Salt and vinegar were not so popular DD1 complained they made her too thirsty and dd2 not keen on S&V anyway, we found the prawn cocktail ones in the shop (we didnt have that flavour) they were absolute favourites all round. Would probably prefer to buy wholegrain over other crisps that were not wholegrain especially as teh dd's did enjoy them over other crisps (dd1 asked me to buy more) both dd's took them to school in lunch boxes and asked for them to be bought again so a real success. DH did complain they were a different shaped monster munch but agreed that they were tasty and he would eat them happily again

My children loved the crisps and played a quick game of noughts and crosses whilst eating them. My ds couldn't believe he could eat the game and kept saying they were the most fun snack ever.

Dd is allowed crisps in her lunchbox on a Friday and has requested these every Friday since we tested them.

Feedback from Joeby

"We all loved both flavours of the crisps,my 3yr old says she likes the roast beef the best! They are low fat but you wouldn't know if it didn't state on the packet, they are very tasty and and full of flavour. You get quite a few in a packet so don't feel cheated because they are low fat like some other lower fat crisps.
I would feel happy giving these to my child knowing they are low fat and have some wholegrain goodness in them,we will certainly be buying them again. Well done Walkers!"

My kids liked both flavours (salt and vinegar and roast beef); we've since bought prawn cocktail and they went down a storm too! Hubby and I enjoyed the roast beef as they reminded us of monster munch!

Yes I would choose these for the fact they have wholegrain in them. I will continue to buy these now I'm aware of them.

Q1. Liked both flavours, probably marginally preferred the roast beef flavour probably because a) it's a bit different, and b) because it reminded me so much of monster munch which I loved when I was a kid

Q2. I probably would choose a wholegrain rather than non-wholegrain snack, so yes

Q3. The kids loved them, dd1 favoured the roast beef and dd2 the salt and vinegar. They were super excited as we had to collect the parcel from the post office depot and I think it was like a dream come true to them that a parcel addressed to us contained snacks! I always like them to try different flavours but honestly don't think I would have thought of them trying beef flavour crisps so it was interesting to see how much they liked them.

All in all, loved them and delighted to have been chosen to participate! Thank you!
