This is the feedback thread for the 20 testers who have received a new YouView TV box and who are currently trying it out in their homes.

YouView say "YouView is a subscription-free television service which seamlessly combines live and catch-up television. The service offers over 70 free to air channels and radio stations via a TV aerial and also connects to any broadband service to bring catch-up and on demand programmes directly to your TV. The TV service, which launched in July 2012, is backed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva"

The YouView box allows you to record, pause and rewind TV, as well as featuring BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5.

Testers: we'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a couple of weeks we will add some more questions.

So, in terms of your first impressions. please....
~ give your overall impression when it arrived
~ describe the set up: did you set up your YouView box yourself? If not, who did? How easy did you / your DH/DP etc find it to set up your YouView box?
~ tell us which TV is it on/ in which room
~ share what you/ your family think the first couple of times you used it - what was the best feature and what, if anything, have you struggled with

I'd love to watch Clarissa again that was broadcast in the early '90s. it was the most amazing, moving, gripping, emotionally devastating TV adaptation I've ever seen and it starred a very dashing Sean Bean.

I set it up myself, found it very easy.

I only have one TV, in the living room. It's on that.

Share what you think /the first couple of times you used it
I always see how far I can get without a manual but having never used a Hard Disk Recorder before I had to look at the instructions. They were well set out and I was able to search for programmes easily.

What was the best feature
Two so far: the ability to record a whole series at once and the intuitive search menu.

Struggled with?
I'm still trying to work out if it's possible to record past episodes or just current/future ones.

I would love to watch "Happy Days" again - I LOVED that programme as a child. Always on after tea :)

I would also love to watch The Sopranos again, I do honestly think it is the best tv series ever.

Programmes I would like to see right from the first episode right through the series include Soldier Soldier, Casualty, holby City, Survivors, The Last Train, all sorts of dramas

The programme I would love to wacth again is a very specific episode of Number 74. It was a Saturday morning children's show. The particular episode I'd like to watch starred my Dad on the Police Launch Ashburton. They had the crew involved in a high-speed water chase of some crooks. I remember my Dad grinning underneath his binoculars as he searched the water for signs of the crooks. My Dad lost his fight against cancer two years ago this week. Thinking about him on that show brings back good memories from my childhood. If I could watch something again and pause it would be that and pause as his cheeky grin appears.

Not a tester but we have Peppa Pig on record for peace at cooking time! I only wish it was longer and didn't have the adverts before/after which record too on our box.

We also have the Gruffalo's Child on the box. Plus a copy of Room on the Broom on DVD after I accidentally deleted it on the box in a not-concentrating moment - oops!! I love those, they are so beautifully animated.

When I was a child I remember seeing a film version of the secret garden that was shown, we had it recorded on good old VHS for a while until it accidently got recorded over. My parents brought a new copy of what they thought was the same version but it wasnt. we searched and searched but we have never seen it again so that would be my love to watch and pause program.

I love Doctor Who. As a child I remember hiding behind the sofa when Cybermen came on and one xmas I was putting up xmas decorations while DW was on and refused to come back down the step ladder while the Daleks were on TV - because in those days they were very much gravitationally challenged.... I was delighted when it came back - I see it as a British institution that I can now share with my DCs - funnily enough my youngest prefers 'classic' who ( I prefer David Tennant , but that's a different story!)

(Non-tester) There are parts of Sesame Street that I would love to rewind and watch again and again - my DCs favourite parts and the song I used to sing to my daughter at bedtime about the boogie woogie sheep! (this one I can rewind because it is on YouTube). Firefly obviously - wonderful series - and Moonlighting.

I should love to rewatch The Tomorrow People - I loved it! RockStock do you mean Kizzy? about a gypsy girl? It was based on the Didakoi books by Rumer Godden. Also Sapphire and Steel - I though that was very 'cutting edge' at the time. and an amazing childrens series called 'Marianne Dreams' It was all about a little girl ill in bed who had visions about the houseshe lived in and drew pictures of it. Found out it was a novel by Catherine Storr.

First impression: exciting glossy gadget!

Set up: slow, but instructions are good. Confused by what to do with the plugs though! I haven't used them.

Location: lounge. Only tv in the house.

First use: easy on screen instructions. Lots of functions to work through, but think it will be easier when I've got the hang of it. Such a good tech solution on the face of it.

101 pages of terms and conditions is not reasonable though. They need a commitment to plain English and simplification of terms here.
