This thread is for the 200 Mumsnetters who have been trying the new Primula PODs with their DCs. Below are a few questions to get you started but please feel free to add any other comments you may also have.

Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £150 Debenhams voucher.

The first few questions are about the Primula Cheese PODs:
Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
  • Taste
  • Packaging
Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them? Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not? Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks? Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?

Thanks and good luck,

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
My 3YO DD and DH. DD liked the original ones but was not too impressed by the cheese and chive ones. She wouldn't taste it. This isn't unusual though as if she decides she doesn't like the look of something she can't be convinced to try it.
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture better than any other ready to serve cheese.
  • Taste better than any other ready to serve cheese.
  • Packaging easy enough for DD to open.
Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them? I didn't try any of the recipes. Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc As part of a picking plate lunch and as a snack. Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not? I think it's already obvious to most parents that cheese is a good source of calcium. I do tend to look twice at things that promote the health benefits though. Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks? I prefer DD to eat healthy snacks or at least something that she is getting a benefit from such as cheese. I also like her to be able to open them herself (she's at that independent stage). She also decides whether she is willing to try something so it has to be appealing to her both the actual item and the packaging. Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not? I would recommend them as DD liked them, as did DH.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?
DD is a little young to navigate it herself at the moment but she loved colourign in the pictures that I printed for her.
Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?
I can't think of anything at the moment.

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Myself, 4 and 3 year old daughters and husband.
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture-daughters liked the texture, and felt the shape was like a Babybel and the texture was more like Dairylea. They liked the fact that the new product was like familiar brands.
  • Taste-Both daughters liked the taste of the original pods, and parents preferred cheese and chive. Kids were worried about the appearance of the chives, and so were hesitant to try, but both enjoyed them in recipes.
  • Packaging-packaging was very appealing, both girls immediately knew that it was cheese and wanted some.
Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them? We tried the snack pizza recipe included in the pack, and it was good. Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc We had the PODs in lunchboxes as well as after school snacks. We also included some of the Cheese and Chive pods in a quick cheese pasta dish at dinner time. Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not? Yes, I like to ensure that at least one lunch box item has a good source of calcium in it. Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks? I like snacks that are healthy, quick, and easy for the kids to open and eat with little mess. Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not? Yes, I would recommend PODs to a friend or relative that I know enjoys similar products.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site? The kids felt that the site was a little slow to load, especially in the games area. They looked around the whole site, entered the lunchbox competition, printed some colouring pages (both girls liked Dee, the little girl mouse) and had a try at playing the games. River Rapids was their favourite, and they would happily play it over and over again.
Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?
Since PODs are a good source of calcium, I'd like to see a game that ties in to healthy eating, perhaps identifying areas in the body that benefit from calcium.

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?

Me (37), DP(40) and DD1 (2)

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
  • Taste
  • Packaging

Texture was not great- too rubbery. Taste also not good - was more cheese spread than cheese taste (which is fine but we were expecting cheese and none of us like cheese spread!)
Packaging excellent. Kept both DP and DD entertained.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
no - sorry!

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
toddler snack between meals

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
No: it's cheese. Cheese has calcium.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Healthy, handy and with a taste which appeals to them. Babybel manages the taste bit and so do plain cheese sticks, but the pods didn't, unfortunately.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
Yes: because some people do like cheese spread and other than that they were good!

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?

Me and Sons - 13 and 9

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
  • Taste
  • Packaging
Texture and taste were nice. Packaging worked well. Easy to get into, but not particularly covetable for lunch box cachet. DS9 said it looked like "cheap baby bel"

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?

No. This seems like a packed lunch product, not something to cook with.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc

Lunchbox and "as a trial"

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?

Not particularly. Kids drink a lot of milk.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?

Alternative to high salt/high sugar options, not just carbs.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?

Yes. Taste nicer than baby bel or dairylea for pre pack lunchbox cheese.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site?

Too young for my kids

maybeyoushoulddrive · 04/01/2013 15:42

Just returning to this thread for an update! After the cheese hung around in our fridge for a while, I took them for a picnic with friends. Children all aged 7-11. Not one of them liked them I'm afraid Sad They said 'they look a bit like babybels, but babybels taste a bit like cheese!' , 'these are too rubbery and taste funny', 'I don't like the green bits'.

Sorry Primula, not a hit here...

BehindLockNumberNine · 04/01/2013 15:54

Waves to maybeyoushoulddrive
How are you, my lovely? xx

busymummy3 · 04/01/2013 16:32

Q1 - Myself and youngest DD , DH and 2 other DC's would not try.
Q2 - DD took one small nibble of blue pod and declared dislike did not like look or smell of the green pod. I tried both and enjoyed both texture a it hard and rubbery but surprisingly creamy when eaten. Liked packaging as easy to get into I imagine for a child even though I have 3 of my own who were unwilling to try.
Q3 - No I didnt attempt to cook with them see them as a snack similar to Baby bel or individual portions of cheese.
Q4 - I ate them for my lunch with some fruit and a yogurt or soup. sometimes as an evening snack.
Q5. No my kids drink milk, eat yogurts and eat Philadelphia and Dairylea.
Q6. Only the obvious healthy snacks low fat low sugar/salt etc
Q7- Yes would recommend to friends particularly those with your children as thought they were nice and easy to open.
Q8 - too young for my kids - youngest is 10 .

busymummy3 · 04/01/2013 16:34

Q7 *Young children

PointlessCow · 04/01/2013 20:45

Q1. I tried them (35), DH (36), and both DC (5 and 22 months) refused. This was a vain attempt to get the little blighters to eat 'raw' cheese. Failed, as with the cheese strips, cheese twists and the cheese spagetti.

Q2. Texture was soft and not too rubbery. Quite pleasant, but obviously a child's cheese (to me anyway). But I eat cheese in most forms so didn't mind at all.

Taste was okay. A little too mild for me, but then I doubt I am the target market! But, lovely for the average cheese-eating toddler I should imagine...

I LOVED the packaging. Very clever, very neat, Loved it. Easy to open for children. None of that red wax nonsense!

Q3. No, I didn't look at the website. Might go and look now. I did grate the cheese for an omelette for DD2 which she ate (she does eat grated, melted cheese on pasta, in omelettes etc. and loves cheesy past sauce, just not lumps of 'raw' cheese).

Q4. I ate them as a sneaky snack. Or gated and added to part of a main meal (for the non-cheese-eating children).

Q5. Not particularly. MY DC eat plenty of calcium rich foods and I would assume that 'calcium-rich' is nothing special in the world of cheese Hmm

Q6. Time-saving but affordable would get my attention. Also, the fact that the packaging is toddler friendly.

Q7. I doubt it would come up in conversation, but if it did, then I would mention the packaging, because it was great!

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk

Q1. I didn't show them the website. They don't really do websites yet.

Q2. I had a quick explore. I was disappointed to see that the boy mouse's favourite colour was blue and the girl's was pink. So predictable and annoying.

northernmonkey · 04/01/2013 22:20

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions? Dh, Dd and ds2 (oh and me) we all really enjoyed them although dd didnt like the cheese and chive ones.
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture not too soft but not too hard, enjoyable
  • Taste we all enjoyed the taste although as above dd didnt enjoy the cheese and chive although she was the only one.
  • Packaging ABSOLUTLEY BRILLIANT! my dcs love cheese and this was so easy for them to open, it will be in their lunch boxes.
Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them? we tried the pizza with the cheese and chive one (which dd ate even though she said she didnt like them Hmm ) We all enjoyed and it was easy to make Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc at luch time (my dcs were off school thanks to the retched flu) Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not? not really. i know my children get enough calcium so this isnt a selling point for me, however the ease of opening and the taste is a real selling point (as would be the price) Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks? it would probably be the cost, taste and quality of ingredients so no nasty additives that sort of thing. A bonus for the PODs is the ease of opening :) Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not? I have already (got a friend to try them and she loved them.
ChaosTrulyReigns · 05/01/2013 15:36

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
DD3 and me - both liked them abd thought the packaging was funky.
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture - We both liked.

As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc Little treat and for lunchboxes - excellent for a savoury fix (am dieting - really hit the spot). Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not? Would make no difference - am fully aware cheese cintains calcium, tvym. Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks? Healthy (ish) and easy open for lunchboxes. Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not? Yes, probably would.
48Hours · 06/01/2013 17:12

dd (9) and I tried them and likened the taste to the primula tubes we sometimes buy.
We both loved the original pod's and they did not last long both of
us did not like the cheese and chive ones .
The packaging was easy to open.
Did'nt try any recipes, would just use normal cheese.
Excellent for an after school snack or for lunchboxes.
Would expect the pod's to be a good source of calcium so no would not sway my decision to buy.
I would like them to be reasonably nutritious but also part of a treat in the lunchbox.
I would recommend the plain pod's but would love the cheese and ham one like in the primula tubes that would yummy.

OhWesternWind · 07/01/2013 11:56

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Two children age 7 (son) and 10 (daughter). My son really liked them, daughter thought they were horrible. But my son is generally a lot less faddy with food and more open to trying new things.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
Son - fine Daughter - slimy and horrible
  • Taste
Son - liked both flavours Daughter - didn't like
  • Packaging
Both liked the packaging

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
No. Wouldn't use these in cooking as they are too small/expensive. I'd use a tub of soft cheese or other block cheese for cooking.
Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
The children had them in their lunchboxes and my son also had them as a snack.
Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
All cheese is full of calcium so I wouldn't choose PODs over another type of cheese because of this.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Healthy, well packaged, good value.
Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
Probably.

WEBSITE
Q1 The children looked at teh games but thought it was aimed at younger children.
Q2 More stuff for older children please.

They liked the look of it. Although took ages to load. Couldn't use on iPod though. Thought they were too old for it.

Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)?

Make it more fun. They got bored quickly as there is so many other websites out there.

Q1. Son (2) Daughter (5) , both liked the look of the product and found them easy to open.
Q2. The texture was enjoyed by both, although neither liked the cheese and chive taste. Both found the packaging easier to open than counterparts.
Q3. No they were used as snacks.
Q4. They were either part of a snack or as part of a school lunchbox.
Q5. No, both children currently have a high calcium intake so in our case this isn't an issue
Q6. Healthy, well packaged, good value/.
Q7. Probably would, although no specific 'why' due to no great distinctive features.

Now just a couple of questions about the POD Island website www.primulapods.co.uk
Q1. they particularly enjoyed playing the games on the site
Q2. Seems slight disjointed you use the tag line "Perfect for lunchboxes", and then use a recipe section for a lot of hot snacks that I wouldn't consider 'perfect for lunchboxes'?

cupofteaplease · 07/01/2013 12:32

Cheese PODs: Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs?
Myself, dh and our dds aged 7 and 5.

What were your/their initial impressions?
We all liked the way they looked and dd2 liked that they were easy to open.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs? - Texture - Taste - Packaging
I thought they were artificial tasting. Dd1 tried, and disliked them both. Dd2 liked them both, and likened them to Babybel. I thought the texture was a little rubbery. I preferred the taste of the cheese and chive, they were perfectly edible.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
No. I wouldn't cook with a snack cheese.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
The girls ate the cheese as snacks during the Christmas holiday. However, I would put them in dd2',s lunchbox.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
I would assume all cheese is a source of calcium, so it would not sway me either way.
Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Minimal preparation- grab and go. Healthy and appealing to the children. But ease is most important to me.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
I would recommend the cheese and chive, I would not recommend the original flavour.

We haven't used the website yet!

connorandmaddiesmom · 07/01/2013 13:35

BiscuitsandBaileys · 07/01/2013 13:37

The first few questions are about the Primula Cheese PODs:
Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Myself, dh and dd's 12 and 9.
Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture- Quite rubbery.
  • Taste- Me and dh were not keen, dd's liked them.
  • Packaging- Good, easy to open.
Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them? No. Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc Dd's took some in their lunchboxes, others eaten as snacks. Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not? No, dd's get plenty of calcium elsewhere. Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks? Healthy and easy to open. Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not? Yes as dd's enjoyed them. Q1. What did your DC think of the website? Were there any aspects they particularly liked or disliked? Did they have a favourite area of the site? They said it was too young for them. Q2. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the website? Any areas for improvements? What did you like most about the website for your child(ren)? Make it more fun!
Toddle · 07/01/2013 14:47

Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?

Me, dss 10, dsis 12 and ds 7months.

Me - I thought the packaging was quite funky and appealing for children. They look very similar to babybell.

Dss/dsis - like baby bell but cooler. They liked the picture on the packaging and wanted to see what other pictures were on them.

Ds - not very vocal but liked to shake the net with the cheese in.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
  • Taste
  • Packaging

I thought the texture was quite strange. Seems a little harder then babybel. The plain one was quite nice and the cheese and chive although was nice I thought it tasted a bit salty. Packaging is bright, colourful, easy to open. Quite handy to pop in the changing bag for ds. Not sure if the packaging is recyclable though?

Dss/dsis didn't say a lot about the texture which must have been a good thing as they are pretty good at complaining if they don't like something. They ate the plain but didn't even try the cheese and chive because of the green bits

Ds ate both of the flavours and seemed to enjoy them both.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?

No I didn't although they were free it seems like it would probably work out quite costly to cook with them. I'd prefer to keep these sort of cheeses in as a quick snack or to take out with me for ds for convince and cook with a block of cheese.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc

As a snack and as part of dinner for ds.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?

I'd hope all cheese was a good source of calcium so I guess not. I try to not let claims on packaging influence my purchases.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?

I'd like them to be healthy but at the same time for fussy dss and dsis not look healthy so they actually eat them. Not contain to much sugar. The presentation isn't so important to me but for children I think it needs to look appetising. Apparently the cheese and chive one looked like it had grass in Grin

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?

Yes I think so. There quick easy and convenient. Non were wasted either which is better then some snacks we have had in before.

Q1. My son aged 8, and me.
Q2. We found the texture and taste to be very pleasant, much nicer than many of the other snack cheeses available in the shops. My son loved the images on the packaging, and we were both impressed with the easy opening feature.
Q3. We didn't try any of the recipes as the cheese pods all got gobbled up too quickly but they did look nice and we would try them in the future.
Q4. The pods were eaten by DS in his packed lunches and as a snack. I alo ate as a snack. They would also be nice in picnics but wasn't quite the weathr for it in december!
Q5. I'm already aware cheese is a good source of calcium. This fact encourages me to buy cheese but not any particular brand. Other factors influence that (price, taste, ingredients, quality, etc).

Q6. I like children's snacks to be healthy, reasonably priced, and appealing to my son.
Q7. Yes I would recommend as we both liked them and would buy them. I loved the chive ones and DS loved the original ones.

Was very happy with this trial, thanks for letting us take part. DS is autistic and eats an extremely limited diet due to sensory issues. I was amazed that A) he tried the primula cheese pods after never having them before (variety is not the spice of life in his world) and ...
B) that he like them so much. Smile

As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc - tried as a snack Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not? Q1. Who in your family tried the Primula PODs? What were your/their initial impressions?
Me (31), DS (3) DD (22mths)
Initially we al liked them.

Q2. In particular what did you and your family think of the following in relation to both the original PODs and the Cheese N Chive PODs?

  • Texture
  • Taste
  • Packaging
Texture was OK. Felt better than Babybel IMO. Taste was what you expect from processed cheese. I liked the cheese and chive because they had more flavour to them. Packaging was fantastic. It was great that my son could open it himself as he struggles with others.

Q3. Did you try any of the Primula PODs recipes from the Primula website? If so which one(s) and what did you think of them?
No. Sorry. We only received them a few days before Christmas and didn't have time.

Q4. When were the PODs eaten? As an after school snack? As part of a lunchbox? As a treat? etc
At lunchtime mainly. We took them up to my Grandma's and had them for lunch.

Q5. "Primula PODs are a good source of calcium", would this statement encourage you to buy this product or not? If so, why? If not why not?
Not necessarily. There are plenty of products which are a good source of calcium but they are not necessarily good for you.

Q6. What features do you ideally want to see from children's snacks?
Easy to open. Good quality food.

Q7. If it came up in conversation would you recommend Primula PODs to a friend/relative? If so why? If not, why not?
Yes. We tried them and all liked them. If someone wants a similar product then I would definitely recommend them.
