Questions

1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

Overall DD liked it. We are very big porridge eaters and it's her favourite breakfast. We generally have porridge on its own or with fruit so something more interesting was the cause of great excitement. Using the measured amount of milk I found it very sloppy and DD found it a bit tricky to eat (she's 4). She's used to good solid jumbo oats though! But I scaled down the milk and it was fine. We found it just sweet enough, wouldn't have wanted it any sweeter. It wasn't overly chocolately which I also liked. Afterwards I tried a well known chocolate/hazelnut spread stirred into porridge oats and, although it was yummy, it was too much of a 'treat' to have as an everyday thing and I would only give that to DD on Christmas day or her birthday (mean mummy). This was more of an everyday breakfast.

2. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

It is quick, although porridge is quick generally and pretty guaranteed to get eaten which is my main objective on days when we are rushing out of the house.

3. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

Liked the bear and she points it out to me in shops. Also like the idea of using the sachet to measure milk although it doesn't need as much milk as you think. Move the fill line down a bit!

4. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

Er...not really. Unless you can get a licence for Peppa sodding Pig or Hello flipping Kitty... I think it's fine as it is. Maybe something to colour or cut out on the back?

To sum up, I think I would buy this again and try the other flavours. Thank you for letting me try it.

Hiya, have received emails asking me to submit my feedback to Quaker about this product, but I don't think I was chosen. If I was, I was never notified, and never received the product! I did enter tho...Not sure if this response should be here or if I should email you direct? (Or just forget about it Smile )

Mine never arrived but picked some up this week, so thought I'd add my feedback :)

  1. Overall- DS1 aged 9 liked it, he loves porridge anyway and the added chocolate made it a hit. DS2 6yrs & DS3 3yrs wouldn't touch it, as they said it smelt funny. I didn't think it tasted chocolatey really but ate it and sort of liked it. not much in the sachet though.
  1. Benefits- quick, easy and filling for the children.
  1. Packaging- I really liked the idea and easy open sachets. All the boys loved the box and the bear.
  1. Improvements- Make it taste more chocolatey!
Shannyboo05 · 06/03/2012 10:51

I like the packaging, although a little dissapointed with the individual sachets. They are a little on the small side. My daughter is 18 months and likes to have a feast in the morning. She usually has porridge, bran flakes, weetabix or corn flakes, so I was looking forward to her reaction to choc porridge. What a dissapointmment! She took one mouthful and hesitently swallowed, took another and spat it out so I took a mouthful...interesting! Its quite bland and has has a weak milk choc taste.

I wouldn't buy this as its quite pricey and a box of pour yourself porridge is much cheaper.

On plus side, my two cats loved it!

KatieBMumsnet · 06/03/2012 11:22

scrablet - sorry you didn't receive the porridge, you were selected to take part but unfortunately some of the porridge must have been lost in the post as a few people haven't received it either. Please ignore my emails, I will take you off my reminder list - thanks for letting me know.

floss1981 · 06/03/2012 13:23
  1. Tried the porridge with my 7 mth old DDwho loves porridge normally and my 2.5 yr old DS who is very fussy. DS declared 'yuk' and I literally had to explain that it would taste like coco pops for him to try some. Couldn't get him to eat more than one spoonful. DD had couple of spoons but can normally finish half a sachet worth. I think the porridge looked very unappetising tbh, very odd with the chocolate powder separate, although I'm not sure how it could be made differently?
I like the presentation and personally like the sachets, I buy normal porridge this way although I do tend to wait till it is on offer. Unfortunately couldn't persuade the kids to finish this box do shall wait till we have people to stay! Clever idea but not a hit here I'm afraid.

Questions

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

DD was very excited to try the porridge and thought before trying that it might taste like chocolate cake! I think she was disappointed that it wasn't sweeter - not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion. She also was not keen on the texture but as it is a porridge there is not a lot you can do about that!

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I like the idea of a warm breakfast and oats are a healthy choice. I had thought the flavouring may encourage DD to try porridge but I think she may actually prefer normal porridge.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

I like the individual sachets as they are convenient although it was quite a large portion for my DD (3 years old). I thought the overall design was good and appealing.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

No, sorry.

Questions
1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance? We were rather underwhelmed by the porridge TBH. I expected the chocolate to be sort of 'integrated' into the oats rather than a spoonful of cocoa sitting on top of the oats. The smell was not especially chocolatey. It looked like a small portion and we weren't overly keen on the taste; itwas quite synthetic and not chocolatey enough. All 3 children (normally porridge fans) said they preferred their usual (plain) Quaker Oats porridge.

2. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product? I suppose if you wanted to get a child eating porridge making it chocolately might tempt them, and it is quick and easy to make.

3. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why? The packaging was fine. I thought the portion size was small and didn't like measuring the milk in the sachet.

4. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)? We would have preferred fruity or nutty flavours/mixes of flavours. Adding a small scoop or jug (a bit like a washing powder scoop!) to a normal box of porridge to encourage measuring your desired portion size would be fun. Or a microwaveable bowl to collect with packages of porridge.

Rosenotinyorkshire · 06/03/2012 16:13

Thanks for giving us the opportunity, right here goes!

  1. Smell not an issues, DS commented that it felt a bit like sandpaper. Liked the taste though. Reminds them of chocolate milk which is not popular with other tasters but a big hit here! Both DC's very exicted to take part in the taste challenge
  2. Quick and easy and good way to get porridge inside the kids on those hassly mornings. That in a nutshell is why I buy oats so simple 3)Packaging is fine. Like the individual sachets. Not so sure pouring the milk into the sachet works well in practice. DS got more milk on the floor! Keen to try it though! There was not enough in a sachet for me. Tummmy was rumbling by 11am. The embarrassment!
  3. Dc's would like real lumps of chocolate in. I dont think this is a good idea
QED · 06/03/2012 18:55
  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

Neither DS (8) or DD (6) were that keen - DS felt it looked too lumpy and both felt it didn't smell or taste chocolately enough.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I found it more troublesome to make than say Ready Brek where I only need to boil the milk and then mix with the cereal (don't have a microwave). Making the porridge took longer and was messier.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why? I didn't realise that you could measure the milk in the sachet so measured it in an ordinary jug, but I think this was just me being clueless Blush Children quite liked the bear character.
  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)? Have it tasting more chocolately I think. But I am unlikely to buy it again tbh
Manda472 · 06/03/2012 20:55

Sorry for delay in giving feedback

As others have said before I was surprised that the it wasn't chocolate porridge but normal porridge with a handful of powdery stuff chucked in.
I found the milk measuring bag a great idea but the amount was too much and I had to adjust it myself.
The overall taste was a bit odd, and very artificial. The overall colour was very pale.
Both children didn't like it and my dd loves porridge but dh loved so a big thumbs up from him Wink

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

They didn't like the porridge. I really thought they would because they LOVE porridge and have pestered alot for chocolate porridge when they've seen it on tv. They said it tasted funny! They also said it didn't taste like chocolate.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I thought it'd be a good way to get them to eat a good breakfast, they think they're getting a treat but mummy wins too! I did think it'd be easy to use because of the milk measuring packet but unfortunately it was a lot runnier than the porridge they're used to.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

I think the box is nicely decorated and I like the individual sachets, although it could be useful to have in a big packet because my dc eat quite a big breakfast and if they had liked it would probably need a packet and a half!

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

No! I think the product is packaged well and aimed at children, they were very keen to try it.

bakingqueen · 06/03/2012 22:04

Like the design of the packet very appealing to children. The measuring sachet worked well for me and my son as we like it quite milky. Found the taste slightly synthetic for my taste and my son was not keen in it he only took a few spoons of it. Would maybe try the other flavours in the range however

Questions

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

They all liked it and I had a try too and it was ok - I certainly did not think it was overly sugary. It was not a very chocolatey taste but it was not unpleasant.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

The kids like chocolatey cereals but I don't like them having too much in a week. This would be a way of sneaking in something a bit more healthy to vary their intake!

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

I thought the packaging was ok. With 3 kids 10 sachets does not last very long though. We took it on holiday with us, so the measuring bit of the sachets was ideal as we did not have any other measuring equipment with us. We combined 2 sachets into one pan to cook up. The portion sizes were fine for age range 5 to 10. They would not want the portions to be any bigger.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

I would like to see some fruity editions - porridge with raspberry bits or apricot bits.

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

I sometimes have the normal oats so simple and he loved that it was the same - made him feel very grownup! the first day he gobbled up about 2 thirds ( i didn't give him the whole thing as it is as much as I would have! The second day he only ate a few mouthfuls so I thought maybe he didnt like it and it had been a novelty - but a few days later (different cereals inbetween) he asked for it again and ate the whole sachet - gave him 2 thirds again and then he asked for more!

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

Nice for him to have a warm breakfast before pre-school when its cold outside. He always tends to choose the same thing for breakfast so good to have another thing thing he will eat!

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

He was really excited about the bear on the packaging and said he had seen them in Tesco with Nana! I find the individual sachets great although sometimes some is wasted as he wont eat it all - maybe a smaller sachet size for younger children?

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

He liked it as it is but maybe an option could be to have something to sprinkle on the top when its cooked? It is easy enough to add things yourself - rainsins etc, but maybe if there were things included in the box that would come in handy.

frankies69 · 07/03/2012 20:44

Hi, I have now tried all the Quaker Oats with my children age 11 and 3

We loved the packaging it is a real winner for both my children. Unfortunately my 3year old wouldn't eat it!! The texture was not to her liking and the chocolate colour really put her off....

My 11 year old absolutely loved them and has been eating them every day, the texture is thicker than originally and the ease of measuring the milk himself made it a hot cereal he can make himself. I would recommend the cereal to other mums with the small amount of chocolate flavour it has.

For me also it was a real winner, it didn't need any sweetening and the amount made up was a perfect breakfast to keep us going all day until lunch.

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

My dd is only 2 so didn't comment much other than screw up her face and say yucky! I think the texture was the main issue as she's not a fan of normal porridge, I haven't been able to get her to eat any since aptamil porridge when she was weaning and that was smooth. I tried some and thought it didn't taste very chocolatey, probably due to the low sugar so it was low in flavour. Smell was just usual porridgey smell.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I like the thought of giving a slow release food like porridge in the morning to my dd so was hoping she would like it especially as it was also low sugar. Key reason for me to buy it would be if my dd ate it!

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

Dd liked looking at the box, nice bear character, ties in well with goldilocks fairy tale. I don't like the sachets for measuring milk as I don't find they are accurate. Depending on how open the packet is, you can get too much/too little milk.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

Maybe make the texture smoother, more like ready brek but better tasting. Perhaps having sachets of something to add on top or mix in like fruit purée, chocolate chips, raisins might make it a bit more fun for kids.

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 07/03/2012 21:36

1- ds1 quite liked it, chocolatey enough but wasnt keen on the texture.
2- I'm really happy he would eat it! Breakfast is a difficult one in our house.
3- packaging was engaging I thought. I like the fact you can use the packet to measure the milk- clever idea.
4- I think a smoother texture and maybe tokens to collect books or something? He likes collecting things.
