My dc had a tantrum and would only eat it dry!! However she did like it. Myself and dh ended up eating the cooked heated porridge to try and convince her and found it delicious! In fact I'll be buying it for myself. She did like the box though and the little sachets were 'little girl size mummy'. I may well persevere and try again.

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

DD first impressions were that it was 'a bit sloppy' and didn't taste of chocolate. She also said it was like baby food. The following morning I used less milk than suggested so the texture was better but we did add some cocoa powder to make it more chocolaty.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

We love porridge and this sounded like a convenient and quicker way of preparing breakfast which would have been a benefit but I'm afraid there is nothing about the product that would make me buy it. If DD fancied chocolate porridge I would simply make our usual Quaker porridge and add some Green and Blacks cocoa powder.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

We liked the box, the colours and the design, it has a homely, comforting feel about it and does suit the concept of the product. The box refused to open with the flap so I had to tear into it. The individual sachets are handy for portion control and I like the concept of being able to measure the milk but this does prove rather tricky when using a large container of milk.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

DD suggested that the box include sachets of chocolate chips or cocoa powder. I suggest maybe a tube of chocolate sprinkles to be added after the porridge is cooked. Personally, I'm not sure that a breakfast cereal as healthy as porridge should be going down the chocolate/artificial flavouring route. It would be best to keep it as natural and as healthy as possible.

walkingonthemoon · 14/02/2012 19:30
  1. Said it looked sloppy, too milky and smelt funny. Also didn't look very chocolatey. DH said it smelt 'funny - not like chocolate at all'.
  1. The main reason I would of bou8ght it is that I like my kids to have oats in the morning for the slow-release energy. My son loves normal porridge an is quite happy to have it alot, but my DD 'tolerates it' once a week - so to buy this product I thought it may tempt her to eat it more - novelty value I suppose!
  1. The kids liked the packaging - they loved the bear and the cartoon type writing. They didn't seem bothered about the individual sachet element - it was me that got exctited about measuing milk with the sachet coz it wouuld be good to take to work or camping if we bought it again. (I did say on the other thread that the milk measurement is far too much - the porridge is like thick milk - not appealling in the slightest for us).
  1. We love dried fruit sprinkles on our porridge (cranberries, sultanas, goji berries, etc.) so maybe porridge with a sachet of 'sprinkle your own sprinkles' for an added porridge dimension?

Thanks for letting us try this although we won't get the choc one again (it just was not chocolatey! - more uncooked cocoa powder flavour), Maybe tempted to try the blueberry one though....

essexgirl31 · 14/02/2012 19:31

Thank you for the opportunity to try them

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

My DS (4.6) was really excited about trying chocolate porridge. Unfortunately he had one mouthful and refused anymore. As a result ds2 wouldn't try it! I thought it tasted a bit bland. My DH thought it was fine

  1. what would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I buy it as i believe it is filling and releases energy slowly. easy to make

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

DCS liked the indivdual sachets. They don't bother me either way. Dh loves the sachets as they are convenient to take to work.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

The choclolate flavour needs to be stronger

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 14/02/2012 19:31

Ds 3 really loved it "was Yummy" but Ds2 wasn't as keen Ds1 I think liked it but hes a teenager so it was hard to decipher what sort of grunt he answered with.
We all found it a little runny on the first attempt so put less milk in the following times.
I wanted to try the product as I seen it has a healthier but still a treat type breakfast, they usually do have porridge but I add bananas, sultanas or syrup to it. The portion sizes were good for my 3 yr old and my 7 yr old but not enough for my 13 yr old.
We liked the packaging and thought it was sweet, we took it as a reference to Goldilocks.
I think I would have found it easier if the box was not in satchets but as fun aspect for kids maybe putting satchets of chocolate/or other flavourings in for them to sprinkle and stir in themselves.
Overall I maybe would buy this product again for an after school snack or as a quick breakfast if in a rush.
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to try the satchets, my boys were quite excited with the thought of trying out a new product.

RufousBartleby · 14/02/2012 19:31

It sounded like such a good idea, but unfortunately my DS, who eats porridge every day was not keen and would only have a few mouthfuls.

I tried it too and thought it had a powdery texture and cocoa flavour (ie. like unsweetened hot chocolate) which I'm sure is to keep the sugar content low, but was not particularly pleasant.

On the plus side, it was very easy to make and I would trust the brand not to add any nasties.

DS liked the packaging, which I also thought was quite appealing.

It would really need to taste better to be more popular in my house - the flavour just isn't nice enough, all the cute packaging in the world can't disguise this.

mumsachocoholic · 14/02/2012 19:38

1)This morning she was very excited to try quaker oats and so was I. I didnt like the individual sachetsas I prefer to get it in the box as I feel you get more for your money, though I did like that milk line as i usually just guess and get it wrong. To be honest I expected it to look a bit like the chocolate readybrek that dd usually has. But was disappointed at the measly amount of chocolate inside. Dd was still enthaustic about eating it, but after the first bite I had to coax her to have another but she wouldn't. so I had a bite and am very sorry to say that it was binned. And dd asked for her usual chocolate readybrek and when i asked her why she didn't want quaker oats she said it smelled funny and was too lumpy.

  1. DD loves ready brek but its a bit fine and I thought this might be a tiny bit more substancial but I would not buy the chocolate variety of quaker oats again.

  2. My dd was very excited when the package came through the post and she loved the packaging. Shes an animal person and loves the hungry bear on the front.

  3. I think you have to make it more chocolatey!

Thanks for giving us a chance to survey it though.

Purplehonesty · 14/02/2012 19:39

We had the first one for supper and added a banana as that's what ds 2.5 asked for,
He didn't comment on the porridge texture etc just said wow when I put it in front of him. I thought it looked a bit gloopy and not very chocolatey but he did not seem to mind.
Oats so simple are a winner with us as easy to make even for dh and ds likes selecting them out the box and pouring them into the bowl.
He loved the packaging and has been asking for it since it arrived on Saturday!
Overall a winner here although I am not sure he wouldn't tire of it after a while but it is a great change for him,
I like the fact it is low sugar and I will try it myself next time to check out the chocolateyness!!
Thanks mn and quaker

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

DS2 (9yrs) who is not fussed about porridge but loves chocolate would not try it . DS1 (11yrs) ate it - 'tastes like porridge with food colouring in , no taste of chocolate ' has not asked for it since . Tried it myself and it was pretty bland for 'chocolate' cereal.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

It would be great to get a warm fulfilling breakfast before school.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

Liked the packaging - DC's liked the association between the bear and porridge and thought it would stand out on the shelves aswell as it being funny. Would stand out from other porridges .Individual sachets easy to use and convenient when on a busy schedule in the morning. Box opened OK as it should.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

I would NOT like to see 'free toys ' with cereals. It might be more appealing if there was more chocolate taste to it and not so pale in colour .

Was not a success in our house - will stick to Oat so Simple ' adult' version and add our won extras . Would not buy it I'm afraid.

Reggiee · 14/02/2012 19:43
  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge?

DC (aged 5 and 2) have eaten it all. I think that says exactly what they thought about it!

Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

Nothing except "mmmm....chocolate.....". I thought the chocolate taste was quite artificial.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

We're big porridge fans in our house but always make it from traditional oats in the pan. I hate washing up porridge pans! Oats to me are a healthy breakfast and enjoyed by all of us. I've never made porridge like the So Simple (ie measure easily and bung in the microwave) so it was simple and easy to make. I did find it quite sloppy first time though so made it up with slightly less milk subsequent times. Definitely quicker to make but did have to hang around quite a while waiting for it to cool (obviously - it had just come out of the microwave after all....). Would probably buy if I was going on a self catering holiday. Not sure about day to day.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

Hmm....the box caused arguments! They both wanted to hold it and look at the bear / paws . Can't say I paid much attention to the sachets so can't have annoyed me Grin

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

Strawberry flavour would be appealing to my dd.

lionheart · 14/02/2012 19:47
  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

They liked the individual sachets and the box--not so keen on the smell. One enjoyed the taste but said it wasn't very chocolatey, the other enjoyed the look but not the taste.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product? I would, to be honest, want simple to be simple. I like everything except the chocolate!
  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why? I don't mind the individual sachets but it is easier to keep it simple and pour from the box or a container. That way, you can control the portions. On the other hand, it might be useful to cut out the guesswork.
  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)? They like the bear. Maybe it could assume different poses!

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

DS2, who's 6, said it was the "Best porridge I've ever tasted" - We're a big Oat So Simple family so are familiar with the other flavours, DH thought it was nice but not his favourite flavour and wasn't quite chocolatey enough (but who cares what he thinks, it's the DCs opinion we need!) ds2 thought it was just right, chocolatey enough and another comment was "Really lovely" - I asked if this was a choice for breakfast regularly would that be OK, ds2 said a resounding: "Yes!", ds1 (11) not so sure.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

Easy and quick to prepare, filling (though DH and I have two sachets each!), My dc's like to have supper before bed and Oat So Simple is always a popular choice so it's great to have other flavours to choose from.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

Packaging: The colour design is fine, no complaints there. We always seem to have a problem opening the boxes though, they seem to be fiddly to open, always ending up half ripped, and they're difficult to store spine on, you can't see the flavour without looking at the front of the box. I like the waxy sachets, meaning the milk can be measured into them, such a good idea, I'm always worried I'll spill one though, they don't feel too sturdy once filled, a bit wobbly (I did once do this with another flavour!) I wonder if making them just slightly bigger would solve this?

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

Perhaps some real belgian chocolate flakes, or similar would be nice to add. The sweetness was fine, chocolate isn't always that sweet when in cereals after all but making it look more chocolatey would be good.

Thanks for the opportunity to try this!

1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

My children never get chocolatey cereals so they were very, very, very ecstatic and excited to get the chance to try the chocolate porridge.

I have one porridge lover and one who is not so keen. As soon as they saw the product they were unsure. My son said "it just looks like oats with a tiny bit of cocoa powder on". I had to agree. Neither of them liked the taste much. I had promised them a sachet a week over half term, but neither of them has wanted to have a second sachet. I tried a packet this morning and found it difficult to get through.

I think the thing is that in the desire to be low in sugar, etc, it just doesn't really taste of anything. Kind of like making a hot chocolate with 1/4 the suggested amount of powder. We have porridge daily in term-time with banana, apple, pear, syrup. I have to say that mine is nicer! (even my reluctant porridge eater will manage it, and he did not manage the Quaker's product). I have wondered about trying to make my own with some decent chocolate powder in a larger quantity to see how it compares. Or maybe some chocolate chips which could melt and go all gooey. But really none of enjoyed this product.

My son said "you have to give this a really bad review".

2. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I thought this would be fun and easy to prepare. Also we often stay in self-catering youth hostels, and thought this would be something quick and simple for the communal kitchens. (My home recipe takes 15 minutes).

3. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

The box was very, very, very cute. However, it only had guidelines for making one sachet at a time. I would have preferred to make the whole family's supply at once.

I also found it very fiddly using the sachets. I am a bit of a butter fingers and spilt milk all over my daughter's coat!

The portion sizes were far to small for my family. Usually for the four of us I use 1.5 cups of oats, and three pieces of fresh fruit (chopped), 1 cup milk, 2 cups water. So what this made was nowhere close. I had screams of "I'm hungry" very soon after this was finished.

4. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

The flavour needs to be better and the portions bigger. I wonder about having some actual chocolate chips in it as some melting dark streaks might like it look less like a bowl of beige.

The kids were so disappointed with this that I bought the Quaker's Golden Syrup flavour yesterday as compensation. They really enjoyed that. The portions were still too tiny though!

LondonMumsie · 14/02/2012 19:52

A sachet a day!!!

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance? My three girls liked the smell but my 4 year old son doesn't like mushy stuff and couldn't be tempted to try it. My girls said they liked it but none of them finished it. My 8 and 6 year old said it tasted 'funny' and neither wanted to try it again today.
  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product? We wouldn't buy the chocolate one but they like a couple of the other flavours.
  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why? I love the way you can use the packet to measure the milk.
  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)? I like the idea of a small sacher of fruit of nuts that can be stirred in after cooking.

Questions

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

Ds is 3 and said it smells yummy. He said it tastes yummy and was like having a sweetie :)

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

Ease of use and portion size (though portion a bit large), knowing its something ds enjoys and will eat in the morning (I'd buy the other flavours, though).

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

Ds could help make it since we could use the bag to measure the milk. He loves the box with the bear!

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for kids?

It is already very interesting for kids. I would just like to know what the other ingredients are. And exactly how much sugar is in the porridge. This would be a determining factor of me buying or not buying the chocolate flavour again.

MeDented · 14/02/2012 19:53

DS is really enjoying the porridge despite saying it doen't really taste chocolatey. He is choosing this over his current favourite, golden syrup , so definitely a hit. I am pleased he is eating porridge as I believe it to be a really good breakfast to set him up for the day. DD not as keen, she says it tastes funny which is a shame as dd struggles to eat very much of anything at breakfast so I was hoping she would love it. Definitely agree that the chocolate flavour isn't quite right. Good idea but needs some work. Thanks for letting us test it.

lynniep · 14/02/2012 19:54
  1. They hated it. Not the texture - because they normally eat porridge and love it. The golden syrup is their favourite. However they said this one was yukky (4yo). The little one (2) spat it out and he normally LOVES porridge. I will be eating it myself ( I dont like it either, but it saves waste)
  1. Its convenient, and portion controlled
  1. I think the packaging is fine.
  1. Not really. I dont have a problem with the normal Oat So Simple porridge. The kids dont see the packaging, only me, so if anything it should be aimed at me!
QueenOfFeckingEverything · 14/02/2012 19:57

1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance? My 8yo DD (who usually refuses porridge saying it is for babies) loved it. She says it is the best porridge she has ever had. My 18mo DS (who has porridge nearly every day) refused to eat it though. He threw the bowl on the floor and said 'bye bye' and 'dog'. DD thought the serving was too small - she still ate two slices of toast afterwards. She says it tastes great though. Personally I thought it smelled a bit synthetic and tasted pretty bland. I didn't like the way the ingredients were quite vague - what exactly are the 'natural flavourings'? I'd have thought cocoa and sugar would be all that is necessary!

2. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product? I wouldn't buy it, sorry. If the DC want chocolate porridge (which DD already says she does), I will add a bit of cocoa and sugar to normal porridge or maybe even grate some actual dark chocolate in - cheaper and far less sugary. I know it claims to have half the sugar of other chocolate cereals but it is still very sweet IMO.

3. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why? The packaging is attractive from the outside, it makes it clear what is inside, and both the DC liked it. DS laughed at the bear and said 'Teddy eating!'. But - the sachets aren't great. They are too small, for a start. DD is not an especially big eater (and is very slim) but a normal bowl of cereal for her is about three times that size! Even DS would usually eat more than one sachet's worth of porridge. I also dislike the waste of unnecessary packaging in general and can't agree that the sachet makes it easier to get the proportions correct. Oats and milk are easy enough to measure with a cup!

4. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)? No idea how DS could be helped out there, but then he is a toddler and therefore may well decide to like it next time I try! DD - needs no encouragement, she loved it and wants me to buy more.

TheLittleFriend · 14/02/2012 19:58
  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

DD is 2.4 has been offered porridge many times, but always turns it down. I eat porridge every day, so she knows what it is. The word chocolate encouraged her to try this one. She had several mouthfuls and said it was 'tasty', but then changed her mind and wouldn't eat any more. I think she liked this taste, but doesn't like the texture enough to eat a bowl full. She is too young to make much comment on smell etc.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I would definitely buy it if she likes it, as it is a really easy breakfast. I wouldn't offer her a chocolate product everyday, but would be happy for her to have it a couple of times a week. The main benefit for my dd would be the variation, as she always has shreddies!

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

The packaging (box) was fine, dd liked the bear, but wasn't overly interested. The sachets are easy to use, I like the fact the milk is measured in them.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

I know lots of people like to sprinkle something on to their porridge, like raisins, or nuts. I imagine kids would like it if there was a little packet of something to sprinkle on in the box too.

McGriffo · 14/02/2012 19:59
  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?
DS ate it all. He's only 2 though, so didn't make any comments about it. Although he ate it, it wasn't something he particularly enthused over and he was back to asking for his favourite cereal (Weetabix) the next morning. I also had a sachet and wasn't particularly keen on it. The chocolate taste was quite subtle and a bit artificial tasting. I'm a big fan of your golden syrup flavour porridge and it wasn't anywhere near as nice as that (however I wouldn't give this to DS as it's too sweet).
  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?
It's easy to prepare (I make it in the microwave). I wouldn't buy the chocolate version but I would buy the original plain version for DS, because of the ease of preparation and the fact it's a healthy breakfast.
  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?
Again, DS is a bit young to comment on the packaging. I thought it was OK. I can't think of anything I would change about it.
  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?
With this particular version, the taste needs improving.

Thanks for letting us try it anyway!

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

My 4 year old declared it disgusting. He only put the spoon to his lips, didn't even swallow any. But he is so fussy it's unreal. My 7 year old LOVES it. Said it was delicious. Loved the smell and taste, enjoyed it so much he had two bowls in succession! It's been eaten for breakfast, afternoon snack, starter for dinner(!) and supper. We have already bought another box of the chocolate and also got the fudge one which he absolutely loves too.

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

Main benefit for me is getting a hot breakfast into my DS. Key reason to buy again was its ease of making.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

Both DS's though the packaging was cool and wanted the box "for art". Oddbods. I LOVE the individual sachets. Reeeeally love using the empty sachet to measure the milk. I can't be bothered with finding a jug and trying to focus on the impossible to see measurements first thing in the morning. I'm not a morning person at all so it's great to have something like this that is so easy and ready so quickly.

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

Reading some of the other replies and I love the idea of something extra to sprinkle on top. That might even get my 4 year old interested enough to eat some!

PS. Just asked my 7 year old for a quote and he said, "It was super duper tasty!" Grin

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

Both DCs liked the porridge - it became a treat after getting in from the cold (as well as a breakfast treat). It wasn't too sweet and not overpoweringly chocolatey either (which is fine with us as they don't get much chocolate most of the time, though I can imagine that it might not be sufficiently chocolatey for some).

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?
Warming and a good way to "treat" them to something chocolatey without it being overly unhealthy. Very good also after they've done sports activities.
  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

DCs, DH and I really liked the box - currently being fought over for the "peeping bear" (by DCs). Sachets are useful to take out with us (we made some up at a cafe for DS while out and about one afternoon, so he had that while I was having tea and cake with a friend).

  1. Do you have any ideas about how Quaker could make the Oat So Simple Kids Porridge more interesting for your DC(s)?

I think that chocolate bits to stir in would be a good idea. It might be a good idea to reduce the amount of refined sugar and replace with something like agave (if that's technically possible?). Or adding little sachets of mini-marshmallows, raisins, sprinkles (even hazelnuts) or that kind of thing so that they could add some toppings to personalise their porridge, as a big treat, would be good too.

  1. dd didnt like the taste - the sweetness was right, but not at all chocolatey. It was too milky so I had to add in ready brek the first time. the second time I used less milk and added in a spoon of cocoa powder which kind of defeats the purpose.
  1. I wouldnt buy this flavour again.
  1. We liked the box - nice and efficient packaging and cute design.
The first time I made it, I realised the amount of milk you put in depends on how you hold the packet. I filled it to the line allowing the packet to open up as I did (but the packet then folded a bit and some fell out) so I had to put more in.

a couple of other points I'd like to make:

On the positive side of making it, it didnt try and climb out of the bowl in the microwave - stayed where it ought to.

Calories wise it contains around 200ish. dd is 12 and that isnt enough for a breakfast to keep her going (I think she should have between 400-500). But with a glass of juice and a yogurt it just about squeaks in. I think the packs need to be bigger.

  1. Overall, what did your DC(s) think of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids Porridge? Did they make any comments about the texture, smell, taste or appearance?

My daughter said it didn't taste of or look like chocolate, very pale colour. She also complained of all the lumps. My son wouldn't even entertain trying it as it looked weird not how chocolate should look and didn't smell right (his words).

  1. What would you say are the main benefits of Quaker Oat So Simple Kids porridge, for you and/or for your DCs? What would be the key reason for you to buy the product?

I prefer my children to have healthier option cereal so this would be a key reason.

  1. What did you and your DC(s) like/dislike about the packaging (including the box and the individual sachets)? Why?

The kids liked the bear on the box as it made them think of Goldilocks.

Add more cocoa so that it tastes like chocolate as they enjoy the fruit flavour porridges and the golden syrup flavour as they taste as they should.

All in all it's a very bland product, sorry.
