NOW CLOSED Matalan school uniform testers feedback thread

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 12/09/2011 15:25

This thread is for the 50 MNers who have been testing Matalan school uniform with their child. Thank you for taking part - we'd like you to add feedback twice - once when your child has just started wearing the items you bought, and again in a few weeks time when you've put the uniform through its paces by wearing and washing it lots.

Below are some questions to get you started but please feel free to add other comments too. In a few weeks we'll add some more questions for your second lot of feedback. Everyone who adds 2 lots of feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £250 high street voucher and two runners-up will get a £50 high street voucher each.

Please state what items of Matalan school uniform you bought and the age and gender of your child in replying.

Q1 What were your first impressions of the uniform? Please think about the fit, quality and cost of the items you bought when you answer.
Q2 How did you find the sizes? Did they fit well?

Q3 What does your child think of their new uniform? Did they find it comfortable? Did they/you think what you had bought was fashionable/stylish (within the limits of school uniform!)?
Q4 Do you think that the items you bought are good value for money? If so, why? If not, why not?
Q5 And how did you find shopping for uniform in store?

Thanks
MNHQ

For the avoidance of doubt I think I was twotesttickles when I last posted.

1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

T shirts have not fared well, are very stained and have not washed well. Dresses are three inches shorter. Tights have ripped.

2. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

Dresses are not easy to iron with my iron, they require quite a low temperature and I have a steam generator which pumps out high velocity steaminess.

3. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

Pleats did stay in . However do still require ironing.

4. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

They like it. DD says the dress is the 'best'.

5. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

Yes fine.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Well I've been quite impressed with the dresses but not the tops and trousers so I'd say for girls yes, but not so much for the boys.

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

Shirts look fabulous still.
Have to say am really surprised as they get rough wear, they still have that new crisp look, and I just bung them in a whites wash, no special care. Very happy.
Trousers look worn after a few weeks...sorry...

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?
Easy to iron (actually don't need to really)
  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

Trousers have bagged, socks shrunk!

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

No change

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

Very well

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I think I would, as good as any where else, but the shirts are great!

Thanks very much for taking part

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

Other than the problems mentioned in first lot of feedback, there hasnt been any problems.

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

Cardi just needed a quick run over with warm iron so happy with that. Cardigan seams are twisted from washing and a bit annoying. Also, two buttons came very loose quickly which was surprising as she never buttoned it up.

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

As mentioned in first feedback, the cardigan shrunk a lot on first wash, and as mentioned above, the seams are twisted.

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

Socks were binned and cardigan kept as a spare only.

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

As above - two buttons came loose within first few weeks.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

NOt based on my experience, no. Back to M&S for me Im afraid - much better value based on cost per wear. Esp the socks.

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

I would say that yes, the uniform has worn well. It has survived many attacks with dry board markers and still looks as good as new

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

It has coped fine to be honest, the sweaters are still as fluffy and as blue as when I first brought them.
Dont iron at all because I am very lazy but they DO get put in the tumble drier to knock the creases out and they look more than acceptable after that.

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?
Yes I would say the uniform has kept its shape well and the quality has not deteriorated over the last few weeks- I am especially pleased with the coat which despite getting put throught its paces on a daily basis still looks like new.
  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?
Not applicable as my son seems to have no opinion at all about it, he is only 5 and more interested in running around screaming with his friends than thinking about his clothes, that said I have not noticed any marks where he has been rubbed and he hasn't complained about it so it must be fine!
  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?
Perfectly fine, nothing has broken nor shown any sign of wear and tear.
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Overall I think that the quality of the Matalan clothes is about the same as I normally buy for a similar price from the supermarket but as my son is very lanky a few of your items didnt look right on him so depending on the shape of the child in question I may or may not recommend it but quality-wise I would.

Thanks again for the opportunity to test your clothes, it has really helped.
I know that it isn't really relevant to this survey but I am a regular in my local Matalan as I live very close to one but I HATE HATE HATE with a passion the fact that you need to give them your store card or name and address before you can buy things, it holds me up and I really feel it an invasion of privacy that my buys are being monitored. I dont know if it is across all stores but at my local one if you dont have your card on you you have to give them your name and address and wait for the to walk across the till points, wait for the computer then check who you are which is a massive waste of my time and theirs and I find it very frustrating when all I want to do is buy an item and feel that it spoils the whole shopping experience. Rant over, sorry.

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?
So far the skirts are worn 2 days in a week and then washed. They have worn well so far and they are durable. I havent had to tackle any nasty stains!
  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?
The pleated skirts wash well and do not need ironing if hung straight from the washing machine. The tulip style skirt does need ironing and it is a little stiff and awkward to iron.
  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?
The pleated skirt keeps its shape beautifully and the pleats stay in. The tulip style skirt has lost shape slightly and the hem line has become slightly uneven.
  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?
No issues with comfort, still comfortable as at beginning.
  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?
No problems at all.
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would, good value, good product and compares well with other large branded stores.

1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?
Durability is fine, we have had a few indelible stains (chocolate, felt tip etc.) but the uniform's so cheap it's easier to just buy more than spend a fortune on stain removal.
2. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?
I haven't ironed anything, but the creases come out on the line, and nothing's shrunk in the dryer.
3. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?
pleats are staying in fine, given I don't iron, shape is holding up well too.
4. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?
I've had no complaints and she seems to still be choosing the Matalan stuff over her old uniform.
5. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?
They're holding up fine too
6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
Matalan is a bit far from our house, so it doesn't feature highly in conversation, but it's good for cheap uniform anyway so I wouldn't say anything bad about it, but I'm not evangelising everyone to go to matalan either IYSWIM

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

Yes the uniform has worn well, still looks good as new after the first few washes

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

It has washed well, I have had no problems. I don't iron it and it looks fine after being hung.

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

Yes the shape and fit has remained the same and pleats have stayed in place despite the previously mentioned lack of ironing!

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

My DD has not complained about it being uncomfortable, and she is particularly fussy about what she wears.

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

They have coped fine

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes

1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

uniform still looks good, white polo's are a bit dull but that is more to do with my lack of washing skills. no major stains yet.

2. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

the washing has been fine, especially the dresses and trousers.

3. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

fit and shape has been fine. the pleats on the dresses are still in.

4. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

dd still loves it, especially one pair of trousers and one of the pinafore dresses.

5. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

everything still works fine.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

yes, I think it is great value for money and stands up well against some of the pricier competitors uniform. i've been back and bought ds some sweatshirts and they are fab too.

thanks Matalan and Mumsnet.

sb6699 · 20/10/2011 11:22

The uniform has worn extremely well. Normally I have a problem with the trousers hems falling down but it hasn't happened with these.

Have had to deal with the usual stains, ink, paint, mud but they have all came out just fine.

The uniforms have been washed many many times and have coped brilliantly. The trousers are still as black as the day I bought them and none of the items have shrunk or bobbled.

Everything has kept its shape and the pleats in the girls pinafores are still looking great.

Have had no complaints from any of the dcs so assume they are comfortable enough.

The shorts are looking quite thin though and the socks were only worn a couple of times before they looked ready to be replaced.

All of the buttons and zips are still completely intact and showing no signs of wear which is surprising although the zips on the girls pinafores are proving a tad stiff for them to do in their own.

Would definately reccommend to a friend. Good value for surprisingly good quality.

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

Yes, the clothes are wearing well. No issues with hems or shape. No issues at all reallly.

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

The skirts have been fab. I'm particularly loving the fact that they don't need ironing. The polo shirts unfortunately do. That's a shame.

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

Yes, the shape has stayed well. We only got one skirt with a pleat in. It hasn't been worn enough yet to know.

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

Yes. DD loves the skirts - she wears them all the time, and never wears any of her other clothes now.

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

everything still works fine.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I surprise myself by saying yes! Until this year I have only ever bought my school uniform from one of 3 shops: Marks, Mothercare or Debenhams. None of which is cheap. I am surprised that this uniform is a lot cheaper, but yet seems to hold its own in terms of quality. The only thing I miss is the adjustable waists.

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

The trousers have worn very well ? much better than I expected. No stains to have to deal with thus far.
The gym kit is only worn once a week for an hour so not had so much ?wearing?, but the waffle t-shirt does still look like new.

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

The trousers still look very black and don?t appear to have shrunk at all. They haven?t needed ironing either ? that?s a big plus!!

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

Yes, they have kept their shape and nothing appears to have shrunk. The trousers, even though I haven?t had to iron them, still have the front crease.
I would normally have had to sew the trouser hems back up at least once by now, but so far this hasn?t been a problem with these trousers.

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

No complaints at all from DS.

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

No problems with buttons or zips ? all in good order.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend for the comfort and durability of the cothes over other similar priced products available from other stores, but would caution re the ?shopping experience??.

Second Feedback:
(based on white polo shirts and trousers for a 6 yr old boy)

1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

The uniform seems to have worn reasonably well - the trousers have had to cope with lots of grass stains on the knees (thanks to their football coach for teaching them how to skid onto their knees when celebrating a goal and now turned into a passtime in its own right Hmm); the grass stains have come out and there are still knees on the trousers, they haven't ripped yet and (touch wood!) they won't in the future. They are looking a little paler than the rest of the trousers though. And the hems have come down on both pairs of trousers Sad.

The white polo shirts are OK rather than great - having bought 2 packs of 3 I'd saved one back to use new on school photos day last week and it definitely looked much brighter and better than the others that had been washed approx 5 times each. They've all been washed in a white wash with proper white wash liquid but still look grey. How much of that is down to my washing machine and how much is due to the fabric I don't know. There are also some unidentified stains on some of them that haven't come out despite being washed several times.

2. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

Seems to have coped OK with the washing - trousers have come out clean, shirts come out OK, if a little off-white.

I'm not an ironing person but they have all come out of the tumble dryer nicely and not looked too crumpled.

3. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

Trousers have kept their shape OK, polo shirts seem to look scruffy and the fabric doesn't seem particularly good quality - or to be proper polo shirt fabric even. Polo shirts have a big neck which is great for ds1 as he has a big head - but it's actually the longer opening that is the useful bit rather than the big neck, it all looks very scruffy when he has his school uniform jumper on as the neck is smaller than the polo shirt neck so it all just looks messy and crumpled. And the lack of extra thick detailing in the neck means that the collars don't hold their shape very well at all.

No items with pleats in to report back on.

4. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

Polo shirts have been reasonably comfortable, that they go over ds1's head without any trouble has been fantastic.

One of the pairs of trousers we bought had the cargo pockets on the side. DS is used to these on shorts and non-school trousers but this is the first time he has complained about them itching or being annoying. And six weeks down the line he still is. He does like that he gets zips on the trousers though - lots in others his age don't.

5. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

Seem to have coped OK. DS1 isn't very good at doing the top fastener on trousers above the zip; sometimes I've pointed it out to him and he just nods and says he knows, but he doesn't want to do anything about it as he finds it tricky to do.

Buttons on the polo shirts have only really been opened once and then that's been it - too fiddly to bother with every day.

The elastic with holes in used to adjust the trouser waists wasn't fastened at the end, which made adjusting the waist more of a trial than it usually is.

6. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd mention it to other friends that have had problems with finding the right size shirts with necks that are big enough for their dc's head to go through as good ones to try out for everyday usage (but probably not ones to use for best if the school has a concept of best clothes).

Other than that, if we happened to be talking about buying uniform for next year then I'd mention that it has uniforms but that the prices weren't that cheap - on a par with the supermarkets, and the M&S stuff, particularly at the value end; you needed to be there early on in the summer to have much choice as there was little left by the end of the summer holidays and it felt like I was picking through a market stall given the mess it had been left in; the range (choice-wise, I don't know about quality) for the girls seemed much bigger than for the boys but that it was worth sticking on the list along with the others to see if they liked it, particularly if they hadn't liked the uniform items in the supermarket.

zipzap · 24/10/2011 00:49

doh! Blush

I am so stupid. Doing this without previewing and realising that I automatically stuck in strikethrough rather than bold

Luckily it is the questions rather than the answers that have been struck so I'll not re-post and make it more confusing as hopefully you'll know what your questions were.

I also meant to add that I couldn't think of anything else to add about the uniform other than the labels were a pain to write names on - the space provided on the label isn't big enough so you end up writing through the wording which isn't ideal. It would also be great if you sold fabric marking pens alongside the uniform so you didn't have to traipse off elsewhere looking for a new one on discovering the old one has dried out. If it was sold alongside it you could just grab a new one when you pick up the new uniform.

and now will just slink away very [hblush] [hblush] [hblush] [hblush] whilst muttering doh! repeatedly. oh the shame, strikethrough rather than bold, such a silly mistake [hblush] [hblush] [hblush]

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

I bought trousers for ds (5) and dd (9) plus polo shirts for ds. They've all worn well so far unlike some of ds's M&S trousers that have a rip in the knee already. No holes or worn patches. Ds in particular comes home looking like a street urchin most days but all the matalan uniform has coped well with this and have no lasting stains. I've had problems with some other polo shirts but that just may be because I've not dealt with the stains properly.

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

After initially reporting that ds's trousers were quite stiff and dds were quite thin, I am happy to say that after a good few washes they are both really nice and soft. Ds's in particular are lovely and just as good as his others (M&S and Asda) By coincidence I've just started a 'no-ironing' experiment so I've not actually ironed anything but am also pleased to say that they look good, in particular the trousers.

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

Yes they've kept their fit well, and both ds and dd like them. Dd is quite particular about her school trousers so I wasn't sure she'd wear these at all at first but she really likes them and says they're very comfortable. I'll probably get some more actually as her other usual stretchy tesco ones are too short. I thought that the matalan one's were going to be too long on her but she must have had a growth spurt and they're fine. No pleats to report back about though sorry.

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

Both children have found them comfortable, even more so as they've softened up.

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

These are the only trousers that ds has which have a hook and eye fastening and a zip - and he likes them the best because of that! He looks for them first when choosing a pair to put on because he likes these features so much! I will buy them again for this reason. The fastenings themselves seem fine, no problems with usage.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would, I'm converted. I didn't think I would be tbh (don't always like change [hsmile]) but we're all happy with it so I would definitely recommend. Thank you for the opportunity to try it out, I will definitely be buying again.

The shoes have started to fray a little through the outside stitching. The inside sole cover has come detached on one shoe. Overall, they are lasting. Socks are fine.

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? Anyhow easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

Shoes coped with cleaning and polishing well. Socks and clothing washed well too. No ironing required!

Just had an email reminder to update my review...have already done it (on 18/10/11) but just in case my username/email address or whatever didn't register with you as done then here is my review again:

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

I think it is still quite early to tell. Only a few weeks since the start if term and many people will not have been exclusively using the Matalan uniform, but also using stuff they already had. However, I can say that so far everything is fine apart from the knees on the trousers wearing a lot faster than expected (with no more carpet time than before! Mire desk work in fact!).

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

Ironing the polo shirts is a pain, they get very creased. They are also looking a bit floppy now they've been washed a bit. Everything else ok.

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

As mentioned above, the polo shirts are looking floppy, losing their shape a bit.

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

Comfortable. No change from start, but 8 yr old boys are maybe not the best to ask about this sort of detail

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

As mentioned above, a few weeks is not long enough to be 'used a lot'. So far, fastenings are ok, though.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would because it is as good as supermarket stuff (no better) and if there is a matalan near you, it's worth using them for the convenience.

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not? The trousers have worn really well, and I am happy with how they look. DS fell over last week in his M&S trousers and they ripped at the knee, which he does alot. the Matalan ones are still going strong.
  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)? The trousers look as new - they havent bobbled or faded despite being washed most days. The shirts have kept their whiteness although the collars have gone a bit funny shaped.
  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not? I think the long sleeve shirts have shrunk a little, but the short sleeve shirts and the trousers have kept their shape well.
  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not? Because DS has such a small waist he had to have it pulled in which makes all his trousers ruched at the back, so he always complains about new trousers. He still likes his combat style trousers the best, although it means he tries to smuggle small toys to school.
  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot? DS doesnt use the hook or the zips on his trousers. The buttons on the shirts are still held firm.
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not? I would recommend them to my friends, although I would mention that there seemed to be alot of stock for younger children, where older childrens stock was scarce.

2nd lot of feedback.

1...stains came out of ds2's poloshirts and PE shirt and everything else[inc sewatshirt]Stains[ink] did not come out of ds1;s shirts[ink] but all items have lasted thus far and collars have improved on ds1's shirts.

2...washed well[after intial shrinkage of polo shirts.Sweatshirt has only faded a little.Very easy to iron all items.

3...Poloshirts shrunk initially.Blue sweatshirt has barely faded. All items have retained their shape and fit.DS1'S shirts have improved!

4...Both dc's still find uniform comfy.

5...Buttons still on.Not stiff and not hanging off!

6...Would recommend.Only issue was getting ink out of ds1's shirts but I have found that with all shirts he has had so probably me!

second lot of feedback

  1. uniform still looking ok but a little more worn in the knees than i would have liked. the white polo shirts have pasta stains still on them despite long hot washes with stain removal powder on them 2)all irems have washed fairly well but have shrunk slightly and some of the collars have gone a little skewiff. 3)the polo shirts i have bought have shrunk slightly and collars gone a funny shape but the trousers have retained their shape and colour. 4)this is my sons first uniform so everything is a novelty at the moment and i have had no complaints so far!!
  2. the buttons are holding on like a trooper so no complaints about this.
  3. i would recommend the uniforms to a younger age range but not to older children

  1. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?
__ The trousers for my 4 year old haven't worn as well as his ones from Next. The knees have started to go pale already. The coat and socks have been fine.
  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?
__ As above, the trousers are already going white on the knees, but they are very easy to iron.
  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?
__ The trousers are the ones with the crease down the fronts of legs and they have stayed in really well and kept their shape overall. The coat still looks like new.
  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?
__ Yes they still find it comfortable although the coat is very warm in the unseasonal weather we had throughout October. He didn't have another coat and they HAVE to take one to school and he was sweaty and pink a lot of the time! (It will be great in colder weather). Its the black, parka type one with fleecey lining.
  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?
_ They have coped very well, and are still like new.
  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
__I would recommend Matalan uniform perhaps for girls or older boys. Little boys in Reception / year 1&2 spend so much time on their knees that the trousers are not wearing well. Also I noticed that the girls dresses and skirts were quite pretty.

. Has the uniform worn well or not? Would you say it's durable? Have you had to tackle any nasty stains? If so, were they easy to get out or not?

The polo shirts have been worn loads and are a big favourite! However, one of them has a hole in the underarm so i?m not too impressed with durabilty. The skirt has kept its shape well, but is bobbly, and the flower motif has started unpicking and has loose threads in a number of places.

[Don?t think the PE kit (yoga pants and boys games sweat shirt) have been worn yet and definitely not used the long sleeve blouses yet. ]

  1. How has the uniform coped with being washed repeatedly? And how easy or difficult is it to iron (if applicable!)?

As above, a hole has developed in the underarm of a polo shirt and the skirt?s become rather bobbly and the flower motif is unravelling. Ironing is very straight forward and not been a problem.

  1. Have the items you bought kept their fit and shape well or not? If you bought any items with pleats in, did the pleats stay in or not?

The pleats in skirt have stayed in fine but the motif is unpicking.

  1. If your DC found the uniform comfortable to start with, do they still find it so? If they originally found it uncomfortable, have they found it more comfortable with time or not?

Yes, it?s still a favourite. No comfort problems. I think the skirt is quite short though and don?t like my daughter to wear it unless its a tights day.

  1. How would you say the zips, buttons or other fastenings on the items you bought have coped with being used a lot?

No problems.

  1. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Matalan school uniform to a friend? If so, why? If not, why not?
I?d let people know about matalan as an option for cheaper uniforms ? particularly the yoga pants, but would mention the motif unravelling and underarm hole.

Tooearly - it's all my fault - shouldn't try to do complicated things like reminder emails on a Monday morning - should have taken you (and anyone else who's already added their second lot of feedback!) out but I didn't, sorry!

Was probably still reeling from the end of Spooks
