This is the feedback thread for the MNers taking part in the "My First Wii Challenge" with Nintendo and Mumsnet. You may recall we asked for willing volunteers to try a Wii for 4 weeks and to add their feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. They've been adding lots of feedback already but this is now the 'official' feedback thread.

The families have been playing the following games: uDraw GameTablet with uDraw Studio, Pictionary and Spongbob, Mario Kart, and Kirby's Epic Yarn. They have also just got Wii Play Motion and Just Dance Jnrs.

We have some challenges and feedback questions for you - do let us know how you got on with set up of the Wii and also try the challenges and see what you think and let us know. Do state the ages and genders of your LO's when posting your reply.

General - please let us know how you got on with the following:

  1. Getting the Wii set up for the first time
  1. Connecting the Wii to the Internet (using wifi, if you could)
  1. Creating a Wii Mii for each family member
  1. Setting up iPlayer (if on wifi)
  1. Adding additional Wii Remotes

Kirby's Epic Yarn - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

~ Create a beautifully furnished room as a family, using the soft furnishings picked up throughout the game

~ Mum and Dad (or another adult) play together (as Kirby and Prince Fluff) followed by the children - the pair with the best score wins

Just Dance Jnrs - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

~ Each family member to assign a dance to another member of the family. The family must then hold a dance off. The family member with the highest score wins

~ Family forms two teams of two. Each team must perform a perfectly synchronised routine and the other team must score them secretly. After each team has performed their routine the scores can be opened. Each family should decide on some things to award extra points for, such as enthusiasm, the best faces pulled while dancing etc.

~ Each family member teaches a routine to a non-family member. Points don?t matter here - it's the taking part that counts!

Mario Kart - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

~ An adult (eg Dad, Grandma) and and child race 3 times and record the best of 3

~ Race a match blindfold: families divide into pairs, and one must race blindfold while the other directs them

Wii Play Motion - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

~ Crown each member of the family king or queen of one mini game. The challenge is to find one game that each family member excels at

~ One sibling teaches the other how to play a new mini-game (if possible)

uDraw - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

~ Create a drawing of a designated family member in under one minute

~ Create a drawing made entirely from the stamps provided in uDraw Studio

~ Play Pictionary in teams - adults vs children, mixed teams..who wins?

~ Create teams and each team creates a Dood - the team whose Dood gets the highest score wins

If you already have a Wii, please do let Nintendo know what you think of these games and of your use as a family of the Wii - add your views here or try some of the challenges and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky winner will receive two Wii games!

Thanks and good luck

Wii Play Motion - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

DD2 and DH were reluctantant to play these. They say they're not as exciting as the other games. DD1 like them though. And, I liked the fact they were only short.

~ Crown each member of the family king or queen of one mini game. The challenge is to find one game that each family member excels at

DD1 is the best at the making your body into a shape and trying to get through the cut out. I'm the best at the ice-cream cone challenge!

~ One sibling teaches the other how to play a new mini-game (if possible)

How about the children teach the parents and her younger sister? DD1 has been very patient at helping me. But, she's still better then me!

Just Dance Jnrs - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

We love this!! It was hilarious watching my husband his friend do it. Worth its weight in gold! I don't know why its called Just Dance Jnrs. It appeals to us the whole family! It's fun, and I love the fact that I feel as if I've burned some calories

~ Each family member to assign a dance to another member of the family. The family must then hold a dance off. The family member with the highest score wins

I won!!!! DD2 went off in a strop though as we didn't choose the Justin Bieber song for her

~ Family forms two teams of two. Each team must perform a perfectly synchronised routine and the other team must score them secretly. After each team has performed their routine the scores can be opened. Each family should decide on some things to award extra points for, such as enthusiasm, the best faces pulled while dancing etc.

We haven't done this as a family due to DD2's strop (see above). I've done it with DD1 though and we both gave each other full marks and awarded us joint first prize!

~ Each family member teaches a routine to a non-family member. Points don?t matter here - it's the taking part that counts!

DD2 has taught me and DH how to dance to Justin Bieber. DD1 has taught us how to dance to Selina Gomez. I tried to teach them how to dance to Kids in America, but we all found it hard.

SamsGoldilocks · 24/09/2011 18:25

us too Fennel !

Ann - i sadly never received the Dance Jnrs although Helen was chasing it up.

Love the video though

AnnMumsnet · 25/09/2011 12:58

Mario Kart - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

We all really enjoyed this. In fact, we've had some children free games! DD2 (aged 6) can't get the hang of it though, so she gets one of us to race on her behalf and still gets excited as if it is her doing it! DD1 (aged 8) is fine with it, and plays with her friends.

~ An adult (eg Dad, Grandma) and and child race 3 times and record the best of 3

Mum or Dad always win. And, if it's Mum playing against Dad, then Dad wins.... Grrr.

~ Race a match blindfold: families divide into pairs, and one must race blindfold while the other directs them

This was a disaster! We didn't compete the lap. Sorry....

Triggles · 02/10/2011 21:03

Ann - just checking back to see if any further information re that faulty controller. It's a bit tricky as customer services say they can't do anything as we didn't purchase it and have no receipt. I just would like it replaced, if possible.

JulesJules · 05/10/2011 10:00

LOVE the video clips!!

A bit more feedback:
Just Dance Jnrs - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

~ Each family member to assign a dance to another member of the family. The family must then hold a dance off. The family member with the highest score wins

This was HILARIOUS. DH took a bit of persuading to join in, but then did quite enjoy himself!
The scoring was a bit subject to cheating and bribery Grin but we all had a great time, this game was a lot better than I thought it would be.
The 9yo won, 6yo runner up, but 6yo won the prize for most inventive moves.
DH won silliest expressions prize.
I won best half time snacks prize...
6yo and I won the team prize, 9yo furious with DH for letting her down!
It turns out that none of us takes direction very well!

Wii Play Motion - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:

~ Crown each member of the family king or queen of one mini game. The challenge is to find one game that each family member excels at

~ One sibling teaches the other how to play a new mini-game (if possible)

6yo DD loves these. I think the variety and simplicity of the games was a real plus for her. She played these games a lot on her own before we all played together and it gave her a lot more confidence. Her co-ordination has imoproved a lot, and she really enjoyed teaching the rest of us how to play.

rusmum · 06/10/2011 10:36

lopved the videso's. That little boy dancing- how sweet!!!!! xx Thanks MN for our wii . We had such fun with the challenges x

Adair · 18/10/2011 07:31

Hey there - hope Wii is happy with the feedback.. I realised I could have put more (and have been a bit distant from mumsnet - busy setting up a Youth theatre damn that real life!!)

Kirby's Epic Yarn - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:
We love this game. The 3yo calls it the 'wii game' though isn't quite old enough to do it completeyly ndependently . We play as a family which is surprisingly fun! Think it will be better as the kids get older

Just Dance Jnrs - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:
Mum's favourite. IThis is a real family game. Either we all dance. Or two of us dance and the other two say who's doing better (and laugh). Love giving points to And dd liked teaching routines to ds.

Mario Kart - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:
Ha - blindfolding was hilarious.. Ds likes this game and quickly picked it up though needs a lot of help. Didn't really play together as only one steering wheel but could see us getting another when children are a bit older.

Wii Play Motion - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:
We tried this out a bit and all love bowling best! All of us can do it (I'm best, ha!)

uDraw - Challenges - let us know your overall views on the game as well as trying these challenges:
Mum and Dad find the tablet hard work. Dd and ds seem to manage fine! Ds adores spongebob - I love it too (see above). Dd has drawn lots of things though in all honesty, she'd rather draw a real picture.

We do use the Wii as part of our 'things to do' but not every day. It is a lot more interactive than the other computer games and I like the whole family element. I suspect when we have a bit more time and kids are a bit older they will use it more. iPlayer is handy.

All in all THANK YOU. It has been fun and interesting!

GypsyMoth · 18/10/2011 07:53

Who won the 2 wii games prize draw??

satine · 22/10/2011 09:46

We've just watched the video compilation and we're all thrilled that we're in it! (We're the pictionary 'spinach' family). Thank you MN, we loved taking part in the whole test from start to finish, and we're using the Wii regularly (I've now got Wii Fit plus, which is actually more enjoyable than I thought it would be).

Thank you from all of us!

Collision · 11/12/2011 09:45
